Assassin's Creed Unity Thread - Part 1

Well it "broke" the game. If a glitch is something that you cant circumvent without turning off the game and rebooting, then yeah that is broken. And no that does not happen in nearly every game I play. That's rare that I have to go back to the PDM and restart from the very beginning to get past a bug that literally stops all gameplay. Im not talking simple screen tearing or the occasional walking through walls here

Broken is not being able to play the game at all. Having to turn the game off and can immediately resume play is not broken. That is a glitch. I've gotten hung up in Far Cry 3 &4. I've gotten hung up in Uncharted 2 & 3. And I've gotten hung up in every Arkham Game at least once. Fallout 3 and Vegas. Red Dead Redemption. You name it I've had to restart my PS3 at one point or another because my character got stuck in a spot. Point is just because your not coming across these glitches doesn't mean every game doesn't have them somewhere in their code. Some people encounter them more than others. You found a glitch. It happens. Just restart the game and go on playing.

I agree. I wish glitches like that didn't happen. But they do, in many many games. I've played a lot of great, well-made, games where I encountered a glitch and had to exit the game and restart. Stuff like that has been happening since I started playing games way back when.

However, it does seem like Unity has, or had, more of these bad glitches than other recent big releases. And thats not okay.

Back from vacation and started playing again, only to have the game freeze up on me. I had to pull the plug out of my PS4 bc the controller was unresponsive :/

I've had glitches where I've had to restart the console in many big games, especially open world Skyrim types.

Just borrowed this from a friend and started playing it. I'm kinda glad I never bought it. The gameplay so far is kinda glitchy, especially the crowds with their weird pop-in. I even saw an NPC clip right through a main character, in a cut scene! And the free running is not smooth enough, as far as I've seen so far, for a game that requires so much running and climbing.

I got this for Christmas and have not encountered any glitches, I'm on sequence 7 now. The game is gorgeous. There are minor nitpicks, mostly with npcs but they are the same as npc issues that have cropped up in every other Assassin's Creed game - npcs randomly walking on tables/walls, sitting on invisible benches etc.

I'm enjoying the game but personally think Black Flag is a better, more fun game.

I'm liking it a bit better now, but the NPCs are just terrible. When you walk through a crowd, the npcs just glitch out of the way. And the textures on the faces and hair of the random NPCs are not good at all. They look unfinished.

I think I read that they downgraded the visuals on the hair. Thats too bad bc it really looks bad in this game. It looks low-res compared to the rest of that character's models. Speaking of NPCs, the AI is especially bad in this game.

There are also way too many collectibles in this game. The devs didnt need to put nearly as many chests as there are. Its a bit overkill. The ones locked behind that mobile game are especially BS but thankfully they arent required for anything

Would you recommend finishing the story? I'm pretty interested in seeing where it goes, but I'm not loving the gameplay thus far. I just escaped from the jail.

And yeah the hair does look weird compared to the faces, which usually look pretty great. I love the set design as well.

I didnt find the story particularly interesting. The gameplay is pretty consistent throughout the game but like all AC games, I dont think it really begins until you've become an assassin and if you just escaped jail, then thats yet to happen for you. You are right there though, so Id suggest playing the next few missions to see if it improves for you. The assassinations in this game, I have to say are among the best in the series as there is more freedom in how you approach things and you get to do more strategizing

Another thing I hate about this game? Damn shooters and the fact that this game removed the ability to use other enemies as human shields. Makes many fights more frustrating than they need to be. Running away from enemies aimed at you are a chore bc you cant really dodge the bullets; just move around erratically and hope they miss

Yep I've already had a few encounters with shooting enemies, and they are a pain.
I'll play through the next few missions and see how I feel about it. Thanks.

I finished it. I loved it, it's my second favorite entry in the saga, right after AC II. I thought black flag was kinda fun, but forgettable. On the other hand, I thought Arno and Elise were great characters, and I liked the story as well. it was great to feel that you were part of the assassins, something I didn't feel since brotherhood.

The gameplay is the best in the serie. The fights are really enjoyable, and so is the freerun.

It's also a really generous game, with tons of stuff to do, and there is variety in the missions.

Happy assassin year

Finally platinumed this game last night. Man was that tedious. Overall this was probably one of my least favorite AC game. What a disappointment coming after Black Flag which was the best in the series. I wasnt a fan of the combat in this game. They made it unnecessarily frustrating, especially with the gunplay. I also found that I didnt really care all that much for the story. Im also not a fan of just one big city. I prefer the travel between different large locales. It goes without saying but the glitches and bugs also helped ruin the experience. I dealt with that and I started playing after the last big patch so I can only imagine just how awful it was for those that were there day one

I will say I liked the mission structure for the assassinations bc for once I felt like there was strategy and they could all be done stealthy, something the past games struggled to really capture. The murder mysteries were also a good addition.

We're the opposite. I think black flag is a really forgettable game that brings nothing new on the table. On the other hand, unity has challenging fights (i never felt they were frustrating), improved free runninf, and a compelling story. Arno and elise relationship is great. Edward was fun, but his story was boring to me, and his interactions with other characters were superficial.

I haven't finished the game yet but I agree with most of these points. I've finally gotten the hang of combat but it is very frustrating, especially when someone starts shooting at you/throws a stun grenade at you.

The bugs I've encountered are the same as those that featured in every other Assassin's Creed game but I do feel a bit let down by this game, especially after Black Flag. I'm really disinterested in the overall story.

Unity and Black Flag are my favorite since AC2.

Nothing new to the table? The whole pirate angle was pretty original. It was implemented quite well that it honestly could have been the stepping stone for a spinoff series. I loved getting on a ship and sailing from island to island. The brand new marine environment, large aquatic world, much improved naval combat, helped separate it from all the games prior. Its closest in line with AC3, but it took its issues and fixxed them. If you want to say IV was forgettable, then fair enough but IDA strongly with the statement that it brought nothing new.

Another thing that is annoying especially towards the end is how many hits it takes to take down an enemy. There were times were I was literally hitting them close to 20 times, yet they still wouldnt die. It got annoying and this was with upgraded weapons. That mess got especially frustrating if you were facing a whole group of enemies and unlike past games, a smoke bomb doesnt allow you to stealth kill. The shooting guards never gets easier. I really hate that they took away the ability to use human shields and didnt add a proper dodge button for when not in combat stance. I found the best way to deal with this is to just have plenty of medicine packs handy bc you will be shot

This game is just dreadful. I mean, holy hell.

You know, I went in expecting a few glitches post-patches, but it just gets kind of surreal. NPC's would actually walk through characters in the middle of cutscenes.

I could possibly look past that, if the plot and characters weren't so damn dull.

Also noticed there is virtually no music in this game. Which probably explains the lack of atmosphere.

The gameplay is largely unchanged, except that now you die so easily it really detracts from the game. I'm struggling to find anything positive to say.

Steer away from this one. Buy Black Flag, an actually very good game.

another thing is the whole crowd thing served as a gimmick. Next to co-op, it was the new technological advancement that they were touting and promoting for this game nad I think its what led to many of their technical difficulties. I dont think it was worth it. Never in the past games did I think the number of NPCs was an issue nor thought they needed to bump it up. If they had lowered the count and kept it how it was in BF, stuff like that probably wouldnt happen as often. I dont think the large number of NPCs was worth the compromise to visuals and technical fidelity. I actually found the large crowds a chore to run through at times

Considering Victory is said to run on the same engine, I REALLY hope that team is able to perfect it. Maybe this game can work as a learning lesson

The weather effects are also poor in this game compared to games like Shadow of Mordor, Watch Dogs and even Black Flag itself. It's barely noticeable when it rains - in the other games I mentioned you can see surfaces/clothes get wet, you see splashes & puddles from raindrops etc. Black Flag had fantastic, dynamic weather effects!

I wish the combat in this game was more like it is in Shadow of Mordor; challenging, but not frustratingly hard. I got my butt handed to me quite a few times in SoM, but I never felt cheated. And it was so fluid and smooth. I hope Ubisoft takes a few notes from how Shadow of Mordor did combat.

Agreed. I've actually given up on this game, not gonna bother finishing it. The combat is ridiculously frustrating.

I've gotten the hang of the parry system but they've still totally nerfed Arno as an Assassin imo. They've taken away the option to use soldiers as a human shield, leaving Arno totally exposed and they've made the enemies over aggressive. Plus they've scaled back the weapons to such a basic level. I mean Assassins Creed 3 was fairly boring but as least they gave us the arrow, rope dart and tomahawk to make things interesting and combat was great as a result. Black Flag gave us a 2 sworded Assassin with 4 guns aswell as the whole naval element. Unity limits us to one city and takes away the ability to even use your Assassin wrist daggers in combat and gives us crappy spears and slow phantom/beserk blades and gun. Sometimes it's so difficult to see where you're aiming and Arno doesn't draw the bloody gun you press fire.

I get the whole concept of returning to the earlier/stealthier days of Assassin's Creed but the game is so unbalanced that it just doesn't work.

I never played the first Assassin's Creed game but Unity is the worst one imo. 6/10 at best.
