The ancient Persian's WERE NOT White (at least not as we think of them today). They were a wide range of people over a massive empire. But of course Hollywood went with the generic White guy. Heaven forbid you actually try something new and different.

Anyway moving on, I hope that they'll touch on the "influx of cultures" thing that was present in Spain for centuries. I also wonder what kind of role Marion Cotillard will be playing.

I understand you guys are just looking for something to rail against. There's plenty all across Hollywood for you to do that against, but distorting history and being deliberately ignorant for the sake of speaking up against a fictional fantasy character from an even more fictional and fantastic game is just not it.

Try harder next time. SOME look like that, but certainly not all. I knew a guy from Iran in College and he most definitely DIDN'T look White. The movie chose to cast as light-skinned as possible when they didn't have to, so they are NOT above criticism. It's that simple. I wish I had addressed this in a previous post. Oh wait, I did!

Iran saw 75% of its population annihilated by the Mongols who settled in Iran as well as several Turkic peoples which is why Caucasian features rapidly vanished from the Iranian populace. Azeris as well are actually Iranians who were Turkified(Azeris and Turks do not resemble their Asian counterparts at all!!) thus Yes, A long time ago, Iranians were as Nordic as present day East ,West and North Europeans, Intermixing however altered their features, their language is the only surviving link to their Indo European ancestry.

The reason why Nordic features are so rare now. My ex's family traced back (according to them - never had reason not to believe them) centuries that they know of, all in Persia. They were heartbroken when they had to leave due to the political upheavals in Iran.

Two things: Xerxes looked as Greek as his depictions do and the Arabs had to CONQUER Persia in the 7th and 8th centuries for us to end up with the homologous and oft-stereotyped "Middle-Eastern" appearance you think of first, when thinking "Iran."

I get what Loki is saying though. I think the point is there should really be more opportunity for Middle Eastern actors and such to have high profile Hollywood roles. Now let's face it, I highly doubt the selection of Gyllenhaal in that movie was because of the reasonable stuff you said. They may have just said something akin to, "We need a guy with star power who could pass as Middle Eastern." That needs to change. I think the both of you are making two separate points that conflict. I think Loki is making the point we should strive for more varied ethnicity to hire instead of just white people. The playing field needs to be leveled where the choice can be made to select these other actors out there. Despite being historically correct, it's okay, but all around the intent behind things needs to be fixed.

Of course. I was never trying to be negative towards you. You're correct about the Caucasian topic. What I'm saying is I don't think they had that knowledge when casting Gyllenhaal and that those two things are separate and that's where the criticism comes in. They most likely didn't use your own reasoning and historical background to justify Gyllenhaal's casting, nor do they consider other actors for these roles which yes, could be filled by actors with other ethnicity. The studio mentality is what ought to be criticized even in this scenario. They lack what we're discussing here. I think that's where the conflict comes in here in these debates.

I am excited to see this. I like that they will go to Spain. I wanted the game to go there. With a name like Callum will he be Irish? I know his ancestor will be Spanish, but maybe fassbender gets to be Irish in his modern role.

I was hoping that the main character would be Altair. Also middle-east setting would be more interesting. I really hope this will be good. Michael Fassbender is a great actor.

They've wanted to bring in a new character to keep the source material 'fresh'. Plus, I assume Ubisoft doesn't want disturb the storyline of a character like Altair after closing it.

Strangely enough, I was just in Valletta two weeks ago and I had no idea that Assassin's Creed was filming there until I saw the production crew and one of the locals told me about it. No Fassbender sightings unfortunately.

Speaking to Screen in an interview from the set of the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed, Michael Fassbender revealed that he was “absolutely interested” in building a franchise around the property. “We’ll see how the first one does, but that’s the idea,” the actor said.

“The material and the landscape is so rich, there’s definitely enough there for a franchise,” he added.

Production continues on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie and Assassin’s Creed Head of Content Azaïzia Aymar has shared some new images from the set of the film, featuring some Templar artifacts in display cases. You can view the Assassin’s Creed photos in the gallery below!

Michael Fassbender leads the cast of Assassin’s Creed and is joined by Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception), Ariane Labed (Before Midnight), Michael K. Williams (“The Wire,” Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters), Jeremy Irons (“The Borgias,” Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow). Justin Kurrzel (Macbeth) is directing the film.

From Ubisoft, the original Assassin’s Creed game involves Desmond Miles, a man who, captured by a secret organization with ties to the Knight Templar, is repeatedly sent back in time into the body of his assassin ancestors to retrieve valuable historical artifacts.

The Assassin’s Creed movie follows a character by the name of Callum Lynch who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed is set for a December 21, 2016 release.
