Assassin's Creed

The thing is Fassbender said it won't particularly follow one storyline from the games. It's an original story and they could just be adapting certain bits' form any of the games in the franchise.

And that's probably the best way to go imo. It doesn't have to exactly follow the plot of the games (that'd be kind of boring honestly), it just needs to be true to the tone/spirit of the games.

Meet Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch in Assassin’s Creed.

Based on the massively popular — and prolific — video-game series of the same name, Creed is set to open in theaters Dec. 21, 2016.

Before hardcore Creed gamers start scratching their heads (and filling up the comments) about how exactly Callum Lynch fits into the game world, we can tell you that Fassbender’s character was created specifically for the film version. (The movie isn’t retelling any of the existing Creed games, but rather introducing new characters into the same world.)

Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.

Whatever that is on his chest is really bugging me. Everything else about the outfit looks great...but the front of the chest looks more indian/tribal than Spanish.

I have to admit, I don't follow this game series at all, and I'm not following this production... But that looks badass.

What i really want to know is what time period is this film set in, Italian renaissance? american revolution? the third crusade? etc.

Callum Lynch sounds either English or American, could be even related to the upcoming Assassin's creed syndicate.

I like the outfit but bummed they aren't following the plot of the game would have been coo to have to seen Altair

Higher quality:

I thought it was a game screenshot at first. Next year might just be the year of the good video game movies.

Looks cool, but what is this obsession with video game movies not using established characters in the games? Yeah, "it's a movie, not a game." We f***ing get it. That doesn't mean I want to see a Legend of Zelda movie about Ricky Linkletter, descendant of Link.

It's Spain in the 15th Century, at the beginning of the Spanish Inquisition.

The outfit looks good, especially the hood, which I feared would look laughable in live action, but they nailed it.

Here's hoping it's a good movie, and not just a good videogame movie.

I've accepted it mate but agree. Would've been awesome to see Altair Ibn La'Ahad.

Another thing. That plot description basically sounds very similar to the plot of the first game. So why create a new character? Why not at least use Desmond?

Ugh, I still hope this is good. It just annoys me. I mean, what if they approached superhero films this way? COMING NEXT SUMMER... Spoiled rich brat Tim Tomlinson is changed forever when his uncle is murdered by criminals. He dedicates his life to ridding the world of all evil as the Batman! Watch as he faces off against his arch-enemy, the Jester!

At least AC is a game franchise that lends itself to new characters, unlike Zelda or RE. Even the games have moved past using Desmond and his ancestors, so I see this much the same way.

Yeah, that's true. It's just odd that this particular genre seems to feel the need to distance itself from the source material this way. It sounds like they're doing the same thing with that new Mortal Kombat film as well.

Personally i'm happy that they're making their own story within the universe.

Yeah, if I want the story from the game (which would ruin the surprise), I'll play the game.

I was hoping they'd use Desmond and Altair or Ezo to be like the first couple of games but each new game keeps introducing new characters now so eh whatever. I never cared about Desmond and the present stuff anyway.

I like the movie suit and 15th century Spain is a pretty good setting

Did you stop reading after "Michael Fassbender plays Callum Lynch"? The time period is 15th century Spain and the ancestor's name is Aguilar

It gives them the freedom to try things within the universe without risking “breaking” established characters/plot points. Plus, with a new character and setting, fans of the game will go in seeing something fresh. I’m fine with it, and the wording in the yahoo news article make it seem like instead of this being a typical game adaptation, it’s a legitimate (canon) extension of the franchise. I totally get what you’re feeling, but I think this works and even makes sense for the AC franchise, since the last few games have been about Abstergo “expanding” into games and films.
