Assassin's Creed

This is understandable giving the history of video game adaptations so far. Hitman last year managed to be even worse than the first film and probably the worst thing I saw in a cinema last year. (and considering that includes Terminator Genysis thats quite the acheivment!)

Something has to buck the trend though and overcome this stigma. The talent in this gives me hope this can be to video game films what X-Men/Spiderman did for comic book movies.

Fingers crossed anyway. :woot:
Oh I definitely have my fingers crossed. I need to know that a Legend of Zelda movie has a chance of being decent.

You know the only thing that worries me about this production are the screenwriters themselves, i mean their credits include such 'masterpieces' like 'Exodus Gods & Kings' and 'The Transporter Refuelled' :o which sucks in my opinion since not only do they have a good director and terrifically talented cast but being the fact that Assassin's Creed is one of my favourite game franchises ever and i've been following its story since AC1 from subject 17 Desmond Miles ancestors in the third crusade or the Italian renaissance to more recent releases like playing as the Frye twins in Victorian London in AC Syndicate.

God do i really really want both this and Warcraft to usher in a new age of successful video game films and end this damn curse of bad releases already. :cmad: :csad:

Yeah jokes I am definitely side eying the writers but I almost always side eye the writers for these types of projects. Sometimes history means something and sometimes it doesn't.

Aye, i just hope that in a production like this the director not only has a stronger saying in the overall film (albeit a probable cringeworthy script :o) but Fassbender and cast really bring their A game to this project and not just phone it in for a simple pay check, i mean a cast with the talent of this magnitude surely means that their aiming big in quality on this film as opposed to other relatable films like the dreaded Prince of Persia film, plus Fassbender is one of the most talented actors of our time, him playing a historical Assassin from the Spanish renaissance is a dream come true. :woot:

It's also been rewritten by Michael Lesslie, who's worked with Kurzel and Fassbender on Macbeth, and if I remember correctly Scott Frank had a pass at the script, too.

One of the writers, Lesslie, also worked on Macbeth.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Well that's good to hear.

Fassbender WANTED to make this, and he's a producer on it. So I doubt that he'll be phoning it in at least. Also, if MacBeth is any indication, this will be a very good-looking movie if nothing else.

Fassy played the game on his freetime during 12yrs A Slave.
Not according to Fass via EW:

Before Ubisoft made their movie overture to him in 2012, the Irish-German thespian admits he couldn’t have been less of a gamer and didn’t have the most concrete idea of what he was getting into. “I hadn’t played it before these guys approached me,” Fassbender tells EW.

I'm still hoping for a Zelda movie some day. My fear though is that if it ever happens, Nintendo will be so concerned with making it kid-friendly that it will be more like The Windwanker than Ocarina of Time.

Yeah, I feel like if this movie is bad then there truly is no hope for video game adaptations. I mean, you have a really popular game with an interesting story to pull from, great actors all around and talent behind the camera as well. If this one doesn't work, nothing will.

I actually think you're right. If neither AC or Warcraft can buck the trend, I think it's high time we have to look at the genre and try and figure out exactly why it's so difficult.

I don't think it has to be a hard PG 13 or anything but nobody wants to watch a toothless epic adventure film.

Indeed, no pressure then:woot:

This certainly has the ingredients to have a shot at it anyway. I dont know much about Warcraft but the trailer seemed to divide opinion a bit. I wasnt sold on that one but it might turn out ok too.

Hitman has had two swings at it and missed both times pretty badly.

You know nintendo could some great pixar style animated films with their franchises.

And digs a deeper hole for Sony Pictures.
