Avatar: The Legend Of Korra - Part 1

This is just a theory (or fanfic, whatever), but I'll spoiler it anyways:

What if Amon IS Aang? He saw how bad the inequality had gotten between benders and non-benders, and he gave up his bending (with the exception of energy-bending) so that a new Avatar can be born?

Then how was Korra even born? The Cycle would be pretty messed up. Moreover it would have been a hell of a risk to take. How would he know that removing his own Bending would trigger the birth of the next Avatar. Would Aang ever fake his death hiding from the love of his life Katara and his children?

And of course there is the issue of age. Amon does not sound very old. Bitter but not old.

I don't think Aang losin his bending would even allow another Avatar to be born, it seems to be me he has to pass on himself. Hence the whole idea of being reborn.

i think Amon means to end the Avatar utterly and completely. That's why he won't kill her until she goes into the avatar state.

I love that theory. Yakone helped Firebenders kill Amon's parents and disfigure his face (or Yakone did it himself, we still don't know what kind of bender he is) and Tarlok is his son or nephew or whoever. If and when Amon finds out in a face to face stand off (no pun intended, Amon) it would be a crazy good battle. I really want Amon to finish Tarlok, then Korra finish Amon.

Or Korra finishes both in the Avatar State.

If Amon's story is true I'd lean towards the deaths not being directly related to any of the key players.

From the brief shots of Yakone I do think he is related to Tarlokk but if the former were a well known menace would the latter really have risen to such a high position?

Tarrlok being Yakone's son could be a secret.

A very brief promo of the next episode.

This latest episode... Awe-some... Sick battle between that snake tarlok and Korra..Genuinely surprised at the bloodbending. Can't wait for the next episode. Should be even more epic.

My guess without reading any spoilers is that the two bad guys are brothers. One had bending abilities and the other is jealous.

I really hope she's gonna be talking with Aang.

I really hope she's gonna be talking with Aang.

Maybe it will be similar to when Aang met Roku in the Fire Temple.. Aang gives her some wisdom, maybe reveals some connections between tarrlok/amon(if there even are any) and then Aang overtakes her body to help her get through the giant mess. I mean, you'd have to assume Tarrlok is going to have where ever she is guarded heavily.

That would be a neat little nod to the original series, and a great way to bring Aang back in a meaningful way, even if it is for a minute

That would be a great idea, Roku helped Aang, so Aang can return the favor in helping Korra. We might just get to see some airbending if that happens.

Ha, exactly. Though a very tiny gripe, one thing that has annoyed me this entire time is that she hasn't done anything air-bending related other than her little 'airbender movements' during one of her first Pro Bending matches.

I did find it very odd that she attacked a skilled waterbender... with fire.

Yeah I would like to see a little more of airbending training, even if it's just Korra trying and failing in it. Just to show that she is indeed trying.

Exactly. They've flat-out avoided it.-well, I've seen her practice and fail once.- Other than that and the 'move like a leaf' training its all been "Meditation"

Granted the stuff with Amon, Equalists, and Tarrlok has been extremely compelling beyond belief; She is the Avatar. She has to make the turn at some point in the air-bending regard. and with only 4 episodes left, it kind of has to be now lol

But it would be strange if she all of a sudden gets the hAang of it and masters airbending by seasons end though. If she even learns it then it should only be some basic movements.

I wonder if any of Korra's previous masters will show up.

I wonder if Zuko was her fire-bending teacher. If so, I'd hope to see him or Katara before season's end.

Yeah I don't expect her to be a master. We are getting a second season after all which she can still work on it. I just want..something.. even if she does an Aang-like sneeze and gets blown a hundred feet in the air hahaha.

It would be awesome to see Korra airbend herself an airscooter :woot:
Or whatever they called that sphere of air that Aang sits on and flies around.

If Korra doesn't do airbending, that's sorta fine. Airbending doesn't suit her because

a) Korra is EXTREMELY confrontational as compared to Aang

b) She doesn't even Waterbend as much and Waterbending could be viewed as the closest discipline to Airbending which is why Aang could get the hang of it rather quickly as compared to Earth which was essentially Air's polar opposite and Fire which he had a mental/guilt block to overcome.

c) She might eventually master it but I doubt she'd actually use it as effectively in battle. Aang was most comfortable with Earth and Air in combat, you can see that in the opening moments of the fight with Ozai. He hardly ever Firebend unless he had to. Likewise, if that battle with Tarrlok was any indication, the first Elements that Korra goes for is Fire and Earth, maybe for shock effect.

I like how Mike and Bryan really have made Korra completely different from Aang. While Aang was lovable and goofy at times balanced with a strong sense of spiritualism and righteousness, Korra is a brash head-on scrapper with odd social skills and inherent sorrow. Being the Avatar after Aang, a guy who probably went on to many great things after the fall of the Phoenix King is no small legacy to inherit. Hell, the fans are still comparing the two for Aang's exploits and Korra's current challenges. A little unfair to be honest.

I agree, air just flows, Korra..does anything BUT go with the flow. Korra attempts to air-bend the way she earth/firebends. Sort of how Aang was 'acting like an airbender' when he first attempted to earth bend. He had to stand his ground, become confrontational (taking his staff back finally from toph). In the face of Amon and tarlokk, that is all she has done, looking for confrontation. No room to just let things come to her and 'go with the flow' like air.. (I'm hoping part of her meditation this next episode will open that up a teeny bit)

Like I said this whole airbending is a complete minor gripe, This show is so good, I need something to not be happy with lol.

I do like her using her other elements as a 'shock and awe' tactic against unsuspecting opponents. I guess it comes down to she is the Avatar, she is at the air temple island, and in 8 episodes, we've seen once where she was even attempting anything air-bending related. Might as well of just put her up in a hotel in Republic City than having her 'sneak away' to Air Temple Island to "Learn airbending" lol.

Oh well.

I agree with everything you say here. The creators have done an AMAZING job not only showing the difference/progression of the world from Aang's but especially the differences between Korra and Aang. I don't want them to be alike. They aren't the same person even though she can draw on his past experiences for guidance.

If I had to compare Korra to anyone from TLA she may be more like toph than any of them.

You're correct, it is an air-scooter.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing her get a glider.. Maybe it would help her feel more like she belongs. Aang proved it can be used as a weapon as much as a glider and I think in Korra's aggressive hands, it could be fun to watch
