Avatar: The Legend Of Korra - Part 1

Aside from the Avatar State we never really got to see how truly powerful an airbender cab be. Aang was still pretty young in the first series and his skills would've developed a lot more as he became older I assume. With Tenzin being as old as he is I expect the two creators to show some new stuff as they did with the metalbending by Lin.

I really don't relate Airbenders to power. Their discipline is all about avoiding confrontation and espousing compromise.

Yes, that's why I imagine it will be very impressive when they finally do show him mad.

Remember the original show, Aang's mentor? They showed his remains lying on an whole pile of firebender skeletons. Firebenders super-powered by Sozin's Comet. If that's any indication of what a true airbending master can do, it should be something to see.

I don't understand the point of either of the flashbacks Korra has had. They didn't affect either other the episodes they appeared in. With only 12 episodes this season, it be nice to gain some clarity soon.

Especially if she is going to have them at these various times of peril. Maybe it's her way of accessing her past life to get into the avatar state or something. I dunno.

That is their nature. But when need be I certainly believe they will fight/defend.

Yeah they avoid conflict until they can't anymore. Then, watch out.

People are speculating that it had something to do with Yakone. Maybe its something akin to Batman Beyond:Return of the Joker type past where the Gaang were forced to do something terrible. Like Tarlokk said, Aang confronted Yakone. So the links to Amon and Yakone are possible. Maybe its just another case of a new Avatar needing to tie up loose ends left by the previous one.

Well, we really haven't met too many characters. Presumably the council guys are fairly powerful. And there is a good Fire Lord (or Lady) out there.

Korra is a big fish in a small pond. And she's not even that big.

There is a good Fire Lady out there, its been confirmed.

Flashbacks now are meant to intrigue cause we have no idea what the hell is going on. But Aang certainly looked pissed in them, he was seen going to into his Avatar state in the 2nd flashback.

I know they're meant to intrigue. With this uber-short season though, I want answers! lol.

I don't want to be around with adult Aang mad. Ever. Bad, very very bad.

Something's been bugging me about the Metalbenders in this show. From what we've seen they appear to be Republic City's law enforcement service (or at least its elite members). Does this mean that non-metalbending Earthbenders, Firebenders and Waterbenders, never mind the average non-bender, aren't allowed to become cops?

Also, of what we've seen of them, they only ever bend metal - and more specifically, only ever use their metal ropes. Do they not train in regular Earthbending?

My guess that if you are a different type of Bender or non-Bender, you get sent to different departments. Like Tarlokk's Task Force. It was made of different Benders.

Imagine, Earthbenders and Waterbenders used in crowd control missions...stuff like that.

If one can metal bend those ropes as proficiently as Lin then its logical they're quite as skilled with earth. This was brought up somewhere but I can't remember...they might not bend earth as much because of how advance this city is compared to the previous series. Moving chunks of earth around in the city would like destroy the roads and upend pipes or whatever that lay beneath. It would be fair to say a city like this doesn't just have dirt in the ground.

But yes it would be nice to see these metalbender cops incorporate some Earth into their arsenal.

Wouldn't have done much good in this battle though. They were fighting on glass. Maybe in the next fight.

As for the non-earthbending cops... I guess firebender cops could taze people?

These are good questions. Can Chief Beifong even Earthbend? Or can she only Metalbend? As amazing as the fight was, it seemed she was just really fancy with her ropes as opposed to actually "bending" anything.

And what about the Avatar? Once they learn all 4 elements, are they now missing out on how to metalbend or lightingbend? Or are those elements included (I don't recall any of the past Avatar's using them)?

Lightning, Metalbending and Bloodbending are sorta advanced types of Bending related to the 3 respective elements that can be achived through intense training or individual gifts such as Toph's blindness or Azula's insanity.

To my understanding, an Avatar doesn't need to truly be the highest ranking Master of all 4 Elements to be considered a fully realized Avatar. Maybe as long as he/she is able to Bend the 4 elements with the understanding of the strengths and weaknesses plus the philosophies that come with each individual element, he/she can move on to learning about the Avatar State.

Have I mentioned how epic this show's soundtrack is? The scene where Bei Fong and Korra fight atop the roof had an awesome song blasting throughout the fight.

I must be missing something, who's Yakone?

Some guy Aang had to fight between A:TLA and LoK. The details are still unknown, but Tarlok referenced it when he was talking to the council about starting his task-force.

She has to be able to Earthbend its like saying someone can run but they can't walk. Anytime she extended or retracted the ropes she was bending, however its unclear if she really knew how to physically whip them around or whether it was all metalbending that caused their movements. Either way one has to be pretty skilled to do that.

Yes the music in this show and the one before are great. Its sad there is no official soundtrack release for the previous series. I don't know why, it would sell so much.

Ah okay, I must have missed that line then.

Here we go...

Continued from last thread:
Young Justice just has nice fights? The action is Young Justice is spectacular, and so is the action in Legend of Korra. I wouldn't say it's on another level though... at least not yet.

Yeah, the action is still top notch. I just haven't seen much in the way of choreography this season.
It's mostly been the powershouses punching and throwing things.
Don't get me wrong, I've seen some exellent fights on Young Justice. Just not much this season.
I couldn't think of a fight from YJ(Invasion) that matches the fight on top of the Pro Bending Arena.
Korra's got a head start in episodes aired though. I'm confident we'll be getting more from YJ pretty soon.
Like I said sometimes.
I know that we can agree that these are both very well done shows.

*edit*
I did quote another post from you and just pasted your earlier response just to make sure you remembered what I was repsponding to.

Really enjoyed the action in the latest episode it was really good. Though those Metal-benders should really turn around once and awhile. =P
