There will be some who will be very angry that this was half a movie and not a full one. You’re absolutely right about that. There’s no indication from any of the marketing that this was part one of two.

I think it’s probably the best cliffhanger in movie history, personally, but then I’m invested.

I was with a friend who has seen a few Marvel movies with me but can't for the life of him remember any of them. The only one he's an active fan of is 'Guardians 1', and even then he didn't remember who Thanos was supposed to be. He's at best a casual fan. MUCH more of an old-school Star Wars guy.

But at the end of IW, he was like, 'That is the best cliffhanger I have ever seen'.

Most people don't spend their time on the message boards. Levels of fandom, some are just fans they hear the movie is coming out so they go. They don't look too far ahead in the announcement list.

They also don't live under a rock. If they didn't know it was part 1 or 2 when they watched it, they'll find out quickly enough.

So, in the comics, they get the time stone and rewind the dead back to life?
They get the gauntlet off Thanos. Nebula is the one that does it, so happens she is still alive. Warlock then gets it from her which is how things go back with some other important stuff in between.

Don't have Warlock yet so someone else will be playing that part.

It’s probably the best ‘all is lost’ moment ever committed to screen. I struggle to remember another film where the heroes have been so utterly and comprehensively defeated. Brilliant stuff.

A cliffhanger yet it's a complete story on its own. Thanos won after going through all the trials and got to sit down and rest. It's really unique in that regard.

I frickin' LOVE how this movie set up Nebula. Her torture scene with Thanos and Gamora capitalized so well off of what I thought was the best bit of backstory introduced in GotG2. Leaving her alive to be a force for righteous vengeance is so exciting.

For every calculated disappointment (Cap?) this movie gave me something to be excited about.

Captain Marvel was conveniently teased post-credits.

Gotta say they sold me on most of the character's stupid/illogical/"love" motivated decisions except the one that had to do with Vision.

Quill being a moron (i get that it was a heat of the moment thing, still stupid though especially considering he'd been willing to kill Gamora himself)
Gamora giving up the location of the soul stone made sense too since Nebula's her sister & there's probably some guilt over all the other times she'd let Thanos torture her when they were younger or whatever.

T'challa & co. willing to risk the entirety of Wakanda & half the universe just so Vision gets to live is annoying bs to me.

I'm trying to list all the "nods" to the original Infinity Gauntlet story:
The "snap" and it's consequences
Banner falling into the Sanctum saying "Thanos is coming" (originally the Silver Surfer)
Nebula being tortured
Thor's "killing blow" moment failing due to hesitation
Cap, solo, confronting Thanos
Thanos using the reality gem to "slice up" Drax/Mantis (originally Starfox/Nebula)

Am I missing any?

Oh, and Thor is now the best Avenger.

He is.

Don’t argue.

You know I’m right.

Also, perhaps the angry crowd should pay a little more attention. Strange said there was one scenario in which they win. And when he gives up the Time Stone, he tells Tony it's the only way.

Maybe they're initially angry, but once they cool off, and after a round of drinks, they'll talk it out and realize there's more to the story.

As someone who’s never read the comic, it’s nice to know they put a lot of it into the movie

Fury getting dusted hurt, I wanted him to be with those originals badly.

Anyone else think they should have given us the title of Avengers 4 at the end?

Thanos will return...
In
"Avengers 4 Title Here"

I didn't really look at it like that.

Yes, they probably should have destroyed the gem prior to Thanos army getting there, but in the end it wouldn't have mattered because when he arrived he already had the time stone.

Also, Vision, at full strength, is a powerhouse that they definitely could have used in a battle so purposely taking him off the board without at least TRYING to save him doesn't make sense.

Cap is still my fave :o

But Thor I think moved up to #2, LOL!

The only possible way someone could be angry, is if they went in expecting a totally self contained movie, and realised they have to pay again to see the end of the story. Which, I guess would be fair enough. But you’re right. I’m sure most people will cool off about it... and be back next year!

Agreed...though we can all agree that the next movie is probably titled "Avengers Disassembled".

Exactly! He even says "We're in the endgame now" and "Stark. There was no other way."

Absolutely not. The movie won't be about the Avengers Disassembling. It is about them coming together to fight Thanos. Therefore Avengers: Disassembled as a title makes no sense.
