What an epic film. It affected me in ways I didn't expect and afterwards I just sat in silence, watching the names go by and listening to the music, trying to grasp everything I had seen.
This is Thanos' film. Brolin does an amazing job with the character and it really comes across through the CGI. I think it worked perfectly to make him sort of a tragic hero in the way that he truly feels like he thinks he's right but that doing the right thing will take tremendous sacrifice and loss. His last scene with Gamora really hit my emotions.
I think his children are good as well, but they just aren't a presence on Thanos' level and they really shouldn't be.
The heroes are balanced really well and all get about as much to do as you can expect when there's so many of them. You might feel that you miss the close connection you get in smaller films, but this is just a different kind of film and I think it works. It feels unique.
I loved Thor's arc, which puts him yet another step closer to the god he is in the comics and they played nicely on some of his mythology. He also has a great dynamic with Rocket and that duo is probably my favorite in the film.
The relationship between Wanda and Vision is also a very nice through-line in the film and pays off nicely. I also like how Stark's journey ends, and he has good chemistry with Strange and Parker.
The film has some great action as well and I like how they used the Infinity Gauntlet and the Stones so they made it work in an interesting way cinematically, and not just make it completely overpowered to the point where no one could ever do anything to Thanos. Many times there was that nice, tiny sliver of hope while still having Thanos be incredibly imposing.
Overall this film just feels special. A unique feeling that I can't remember quite having had before. I definitely need to see this film again, both to catch more things that are in there, and to soak in everything in a different way now that I know what's coming.
