Avengers vs. X-Men: 2012 Event - Part 1

The elephant in the room for me is my namesake. Not quite a mutant. Not quite an Avenger. He loves his Unca Benjy though and he's an Avenger. He loves Leech, Artie, and Kitty Pryde as well.

Can the writers just ignore an important figure like Franklin Richards during this event? There was an event not that many years ago where he shoved all our heroes into a reality he created. It would seem that he would be a wrench in this storyline. Especially with Ben being so well represented in this event.


I dunno. Seems like we're either being setup for a deux ex machina or it's a giant editorial mistake.

This event is already full of editorial mistakes concerning the history of the Phoenix Force, so...

At least forgetting history, I can SORT of understand. Not much mind you. But forgetting Franklin Richards is like having an asteroid hurtling towards the planet and forgetting that Dr. Manhattan is at a Starbucks in the city.

They're forgetting things about the Phoenix in a story about the Phoenix. It's like writing a Batman comic and forgetting his parents are dead-- forgetting to include one of the Robins would be the least of the story's problems.

Its more like trying to kill the new Robin because several Robin's ago he went bad...not even thinking about the years a Robin had been good

The Avengers have been tracking the Phoenix's progress and they know it's blown up a few worlds on its way to Earth. Considering it a threat regardless of any good it's done through other hosts seems reasonable.

Looks interesting. I wonder if the fact that Scott pretty much turned his back on everything Xavier stood for (not that Xavier himself was much better, granted) will come up.

I'm kind of glad Thor didn't appear much before Coipel's part. Nobody draws him quite as well these days as Coipel, as far as I'm concerned.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that along with Kieron Gillen and Greg Land taking over a relaunched Iron Man, Matt Fraction and Salvadore Larocca will be taking over Fantastic Four, Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic will be taking over Avengers, and Brian Michael Bendis will be taking over Uncanny X-Men and a relaunched X-Men.

Whoa, Hickman and Ribic on Avengers sounds potentially awesome. Although Ribic basically guarantees delays, unless they have a good selection of fill-ins.

I heard Walt was drawing Thor for something recently. Thought it might be AvX.

After what he's done on Thor, I wouldn't get too excited just yet.
Will it be Iron Fist/Iron Man Fraction, or Uncanny/Thor/Fear Itself Fraction??

Oh, yeah, Simonson's drawing Avengers, which featured Thor and the rest of the squad that went to meet the Phoenix in space. It looks pretty much the same as his art from back in the day, although Thor's new costume just doesn't work as well with his style.

Ugh, what's with Bleeding Cool and the close up pics of teeth? Gross...

Anyway, many guessed Hickman and while I wanted Waid on the book really frigging bad, Hickman is one of the "architects" and none of us could expect Marvel to not give their current flagship title to anyone not in that little clique.

Hickman's not a bad choice by any means, I just couldn't stay on his FF work because it was too long and drawn out. I'm also not the biggest FF fan on the planet. A long drawn out saga is what Avengers pretty much could use at this point and I'm sure Hickman will use a LOT of different things than Bendis.

Ribic is a good artist and an even more terrific cover guy. His tone could be a little too dark for the Avengers so we'll have to see. Corp's right, Ribic is not a fast cat, so I'd expect a 2 man rotation.

I'm up in the air about Gillen on Iron Man because A. Greg Land and B. it's Iron Man. I'll have to see when previews come out. I'm not touching Fraction's FF with a 50ft pole. And Bendis on X-Men means I'm dumping those books. I'll stick with Aaron on WATXM until he leaves and the same with Remender on UXF.

Bleeding Cool is also reporting that Remender and Opena are launching a title called Astonishing Avengers (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/06/13/astonishing-avengers-from-remender-and-opena/) so sign me right up. I don't know where this leaves X-Force or Secret Avengers. He'll be off Venom soon so I guess, he's probably leaving Uncanny X-Force as well or Secret Avengers is possibly being cancelled.

Actually, I'd expect a shake-up for the Avenger line. Bendis is leaving a vacuum when he goes, if a new title is coming in by a current Avenger writer, you could see New, Secret and Assemble all get the axe. There is a rumor that Waid may get Assemble but the rumor sounded like it was weak to begin with. Academy could still live on....

I can see Avengers Assemble getting the axe. There is just no need for the title and the sales will most likely tank once Bendis leaves. It would be best to have the main Avengers book have Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and Hawkeye with Hickman writing the team and just end Avengers Assemble.
