Batgirl 'Batgirl' movie? - Part 1

That’s a great interview.
DanielRPK tweeted a couple of months ago that he heard from several people in the know that Birds of Prey has a great script.

I think that Batgirl is in good hands.

Bumblebee has turned out really well according to test screening reports. If people are getting on board with the new direction of the Transformers franchise then Hodson should get credit for it since it's her screenplay that made it happen.

I have also heard from someone who has connections at the Burbank lot that WB are actively looking for actresses for the role of Batgirl.

so hopefully the movie will give Barbara a good mystery to solve, showcase her detective and Oracle skills, and won't be overly violent.

'Birds of Prey' Writer Christina Hodson Explains the Long Title, Teases Her 'Batgirl' Movie

Is it also a different experience to work on something like Batgirl, where it is an established character, but you can do something new with her?

HODSON: I actually don’t think it is that established. A few people remember Alicia Silverstone doing that, but that movie was not one that is seminal. So, I do feel very free doing that one, and the studio is being super supportive, in letting me dream up whatever I want to dream up.

What most excites you about the character of Batgirl?

HODSON: Many things, but I’m not allowed to talk about that, at all. She’s cool. With all of these characters – the ones that I’m creating and that are original, like Charlie, and the ones I’m getting to inherit and play with – they’re independent, intelligent, capable, interesting and nuanced, and nuanced really is the main thing. They’re not one thing or another. They are flawed, complex, beautiful, wonderful, weird, and fully rounded and fully fleshed out characters. We’ve got so many great actresses out there, that are ready to play these roles, that it’s fun to be writing roles for them.

I hope that Hailee Steinfield gets the role. She will just be perfect and she has already worked with Warner Bros. and screenwriter Hodson for Bumbelbee ;-)

oh!! i would love to see that

But would Hailee Steinfeld look good as a redhead? And yes it does matter. Barbara Gordon needs to have red hair.

BTDubz, Olivia Cooke for Batgirl anyone??

She certainly looks the part and fits the diminutive, bubbly badass type really well too :hrt:

Thing about casting guesses is, we have no idea how Barbara is being written in the script.
Is she 18, or maybe 25?
I think Christina Hodson has probably been sidetracked a bit and is still working on Birds of Prey during its production. After her critical success with Bumblebee, if Warner likes what they are seeing with the Birds, I’m thinking Batgirl gets fast tracked, unless the script is just not working at all.
FWIW, if it’s a younger Barbara, I’m thinking Mackenzie Foy.

I'd be fine with that.

ok, im ok with that, she looks fine

I would like them to make this film serious/noir and not the same Birds of Prey style. A serious movie about Barbara showing her skills as she fights crime, just like a Batman movie. dark, realistic, maybe. But i am pretty sure they won't do that.
Still watching, tho. Barbara is such a good character that seriously deserves a good film.

I would, personally, love a movie about Barbara after Killing Joke, remembering her times as Batgirl while she tries to get it together and fails. A drama style or something like that. Would be nice to show that no matter what happens to her, Barbara is still a hero. No villain, almost no action, just a drama about Barbara dealing with her life after being a vigilante would be awesome. Of course, never gonna happen, at least not yet. But i always liked that fact about Babs and her story. It's very inspiring. I hope they adapt that part of her life someday.

Batgirl rumours from @DanielRPK's Youtube channel:

1) When Batgirl was still in the Birds of Prey script, WB wanted Kristen Stewart to play her, as well as in the solo movie. They are still looking for a "Kristen Stewart type."

2) The solo will be inspired by Gail Simone's comic run. Cassandra Cain may be in the film with Barbara as her mentor.

So basically no supermodel type chicks, more of an awkwardly attractive type.

I've always seen Teresa Palmer as a discount Kristen Stewart (though I FAR prefer Palmer).

But come on...just cast Annalise Basso and get it over with.

i always see Barbara as Oracle so i don't know how to feel about the movie.

Why is this movie still happening? Why not save Barbara for the Reeves Batman films where she can be developed properly? And then spin her off

Can you explain why Barbara cannot be developed properly in her own solo franchise?
