Batman: Arkham Origins - Part 4

I meant more just the generic thugs and such. But yes, I imagine her fight will be quite fun. Now if only they don't give Shiva high heels and triple Ds we'll be well on our way.

LOL does Shiva really look like that? I'm not familiar with her character.

No, I was more making a joke about the disparity of gender depictions in these games.

Shiva hasn't really had a very consistent look. She does not have a costume so much as she simply goes from place to place fighting others, sometime helping others (like the Question), and generally doing what she feels like because her philosophy on life is simply to do what one wants and to be the best at it.

Oh, and when written well, she is immensely quotable: “You need not ask my permission. I believe in letting people do as they wish, as do I myself. Sometimes, of course, what I wish to do is kill them and they do not wish to die. This gives life interest.”

Ah okay. Thanks!

I'll be interested in what the Arkham series does with her since there's kind of a split between characters with great dialogue and excellent characterisation - Batman, Joker, Scarecrow, Harley, Ivy, Mr. Freeze - and those that are done so poorly I visibly cringe when seeing their cutscenes - Catwoman, Two-Face, Bane, Oracle in Arkham City.

I love Nolan North's Penguin. Love him. Evil bastard.

Awesome cut scene.
Proof that even awful accents can't unmake a fantastic vocal performance. Also, I never knew how much I always wanted to hear Penguin say "Kick his arse you numsy prats!" until this day.

Jesus Christ Batman was viscious in that cutscene. Tossed penguin around like he was a little *****. Love it. It'll be gorgeous seeing the skins in that scene .

I love how raw and aggressive Batman's animations are in this.

It is a nice retroactive bit of character development. Batman seems to become more compassionate and less ruthless over time in the Arkham series, a change I heartily endorse from the usual lazy route of him becoming more cynical and controlling like in the 90's comics.

I wouldn't say Batman is less ruthless in the later Arkham games, but he's more in control. This younger Batman didn't even give Penguin a chance to speak before he threw him around. Batman would still do that while older in the Arkham games, but only if a penguin didn't start talking.

I love how ruthless Batman seems now comoared to his older self in the first two Arkham games. I really think WB Montreal are going to score gold with this game.

Exactly, it's one of the most visually exciting Batman interpretations I've seen. A young, powerful man out there strutting his stuff.

I'm still trying to figure out if that cockney accent is meant to be taken seriously.

Oh, I was hoping this game would have female combatants as well.

What the hell are you talking about? That's how he talks. What do you mean trying to figure out if it's serious? And yes there a female villains.

And damn that clip was awesome, the very end the music during his interaction with Deathstroke. Badass.

You continue to amuse me with your high blood pressure Broseph44.

I was referring, of course, to how laughably inaccurate his cockney accent is. And again, you seem to misunderstand, I already said previously I was hoping for female thugs, as in the standard henchmen, given their prevalence in Batman comics and various animated series.

Oh you mean the version of what Harley is to joker and Lex's body guard Mercy would be. They would be called accomplices DC seems to categorize those female's as something more than the usual henchmen since those women boss those guy's around in someone like the joker, Lex's or penguin's place . Though for the latter the penguin's women accmplice's never stood out as much as those two till now. And what she's wearing isn't suited to fighting. So I won't expect her to do that with what she has on.

I think he just means regular muggers, gang members, and thieves that are female that Batman can randomly come across in the world. And I don't think there are any.

I kinda want Black Spider in an Arkham game. Doesn't seem like he'll be in this one though.

I thought Penguin's accent sounded fine? From what I've experienced, "fake" sounding accents end up usually being a "reality is unrealistic" thing.

Americans have always done really strange British accents and Australian ones too (the latter of which is a source of both amusement and chagrin to myself and mates) in media.

Nolan North's vocal performance as the Penguin is fantastic. He makes him sounds truly revolting and evil. But the accent is atrocious, and slips in and out of American pronunciation as well as sounds that are more suited to RP than cockney. All in all, it's up there with Dick van Dyke from Mary Poppins in terms of accuracy.

It doesn't help that one of my regular Skype chat friends is a Londoner who works with Cockneys all the time, and finds the accent to be hilarious.

Which is not to say I'm criticising North for it. The performance is great, but it does add an amusing touch for us non-Americans.

They're copying that accent from what they have heard from old movies like David copper field no not a magician. Well I know it's from the copper field movies . From those actors that always called people "govener " ETC and were from the streets.

It's not gonna stop anytime soon either. It's an old thing that should have been dropped but what ever. But most people that are 40 and over remember it that way in North America and do it that way too. Sorry to say.

Did you ever watch Chuck? Yvonne Strahovski, an Australian playing an American spy, goes undercover as an Australian speaker on technology. There's this fantastic moment where the accent she uses isn't her real Australian one, but a sort of bastard mangling of the southern accent crossed with a bit of American pronunciation. It worked on two levels because it was pretty much what all Australians talk like on US tv that aren't "G'day mate put a shrimp on the barbie!" (we actually say prawns), and it also worked as a character tic, since her character was still an American.

Yeah I know who she is, and I know I also saw a video of her where she went to a speech therapist to sound like a US citizen / person before she showed up on the chuck and became a popular cause of it . Which is what that dude from clash of the titans and Avitar should do since he usually dissed by any comic fan that doesn't like hear his name mentioned cause his own Australian accent is so thick.

But it's better than Collen Ferrel bullseye. of which we all know he can do a north American accent but couldn't be bothered to do that for that dare devil movie for some reason. .

Kevin Costner remains my favourite for not even bothering to attempt a British accent for Robin Hood.

Of course, no one here likes Sam Worthington because Australia has this real cultural cringe thing going.

Not true we like Australia just fine I dated a girl from there. And there are a lot of well done actors from there as they are in canada too.
Yvonne Strahovski just did some thin smart which most actors should do if they really want to do something right of which she first became known to us all. Most actors should take a lesson from what she did. I better head out not though my pc is acting up as if it's about to crash and that really screws up what I'm typing . And I won't have time to fix it spell check or no spell check .

The Kevin Costner thing just reminded of that thin why most movies are done about Greece it's always Brits and other accents beside that one NBC one den with Armodo saint.

I think he's spanish but I bet he's closer then most. lol

Sorry, phrased that rather bad. I mean that Australia has cultural cringe - or tall poppy syndrome - we Australians tend to dislike Australians that 'make it' and move to the US.
