Batman: Arkham Origins

I love that whole sequence. Especially when Batman drops Penguin's goon into the Christmas tree.

Damn it, I keep remembering stuff about this game everytime I post. But I remember reading this a few days ago.

So, in Origins, they establish Harley and Joker met at Blackgate, with Joker reflecting on this encounter with Batman. Everyone loves it, I enjoyed it as well. But doesn't that contradict what we were told in Arkham Asylum? During the recorded tapes we collect, we find out that Joker and Harley met at the Asylum for the first time.

This then leads us to when Rocksteady said that Origins was canon. Does this mean they allowed WB Monteal to retcon what they did first?

It's a minor continuity error. Meeting in Blackgate/Arkham. Nothing that is going to mess up the game timeline.

Did the recordings actually specify that it took place in Arkham?

Am I the only one that got hip to the Cyrus Pinkney pages way after their first run-thru... and by total accident?
One last thing in regards to in-game cutscenes. This occurred to me a few days ago.

The one scene in Arkham Origins that proved to me the in-game engine was just fine for cutscenes was the Jezebel Plaza scene. There is a moment where Batman stands in front of the moon and creates a nice dark silhouette, with white glowing eyes. All done with the in-game engine. It looked really beautiful. A lot of the skins look fantastic in that scene.
That's an image they use for one of the themes you can install after you acquire it in the game . I use it often and it looks great.

Yes. That female German doctor welcomes Harley to Arkham.

By hip do you mean discovered they were there around the city?

Yes sir, I do.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the loading screen, I would never have even known.
Yeah, I saw the 'It is blah, blah, blah date and the time of my death approaches' screen. I believe my exact response was "What the hell is that about?". Didn't give it much thought after that, but a little later I was kicking some copious booty outside the Jezebel Theatre and stumbled across a plaque. Fun little story.

Well...to be fair...I think with Arkham Asylum, they were going with the comics (and with Harley, the comics went with her original intro when she was created for BTAS) origins.

It is relatively minor, though. That Akrham Origins scene was so amazing. I loved how they handled it. So I think it can be overlooked.

To me it just felt like they were rushing things, because they had the idea in their heads, that Origin only takes place 5 years before Arkham Asylum. That's why we already had Harley meet Joker at Blackgate, and Bane turned into a dumb rage monster. Instead of leaving some of these things open ended. Especially the Bane part. I fricking hated that.

Of course they were rushing WB didn't give them time like they did with Rocksteady for BAK.

Is Beware The Batman skin available to play in AO?

I'm playing the game again and I still hate the Joker reveal in this. Such a waste for Black Mask.

Yeah I didn't like it. Later Black Mask only used as a side mission.

It's only available in Arkham Origins: Blackgate, but you do need an AO safe file to unlock it.

The thing I hated the most about the game, even more than the glitches. Mainly because the copy I played didn't have any.

Likewise. Batman first meets Joker parading around as Black Mask? Eh, not for me.

Doesn't excuse some of the plot points. They could have sent Joker to Blackgate without meeting Harley, Bane could have been defeated without turning into a rage monster. They could have simply left some fates open ended. We know what happened to Bane, and I would have preferred that he turned into an idiot in Arkham Asylum.

The game should have focused solely on Black Mask and the 8 Assassins, with Joker saved for a 2nd Prequel. Really pissed me off how Black Mask got treated.

I don't see the problem of Joker meeting Harley in Blackgate other than the small continuity flub of meeting Arkham, which I couldn't care less about since the sequence itself is one of the best written character pieces in all three games, and keeps the spirit of their meeting intact.

Black Mask may have been under used but he was treated well compared to Bane, Hugo Strange, Two Face and several other higher tier villains in the other two Arkham games. At least Black Mask reclaimed what was his and was not treated as a whipping boy for Catwoman (Two Face), defeated by an elevator gate (Bane), or used as a puppet for Ra's and then killed off (Hugo).

Better than meeting him like say as the killer of his parents.

Gonna have to agree to disagree here. One is junk, the other is quite brilliant. Lets say we flip for it and see which is which?:oldrazz:

I don't need a coin to tell me which one is junk :cwink:

I thank you for coming to your senses.:woot:

That said, I hate twists like that. Where the main bad guy in charge is either:

Not who he says he is or being a total puppet, or *gasp* not actually the character at all. All sickeningly lame to me.

For once I would just like things to be as they are presented.

Just waiting for you to come to yours now :cwink:

I only find it lame if it's done at the end of the story like in AC. In AO Joker was revealed as Black Mask quite early in the game. So it didn't bother me at all.

Meh, it was all shoddy to me, will always be shoddy. I was in the camp of being excited to see Black Mask as a more prominent threat. I was pretty hyped for it, thought it cool, but only to have Joker be behind it all, I can't accept it, it's sour.

But w/e. At least now I know what to expect with the next set of prequels.:oldrazz:

I was excited for Black Mask, too, and I agree it was disappointing. But not close to the level of disappointment where I was playing through the whole game waiting for Hugo Strange to actually do something other than remind us over the intercom when Protocol 10 is happening, and then have him to be be revealed to be a puppet who is killed off. With Black Mask we found out early in the game and were not led down the garden path until the climax of the game for the disappointment. At least he lived and reclaimed his gang after Joker was locked up. He never came across as useless or wasted as any of the aforementioned villains in the previous games.

What ever shortcomings AO had with the story, AA and AC had them ten times worse. AO had the best story and characterizations of the trio of games. Bar none. It's not even close.

But w/e. At least now I know what to expect with the next set of prequels.

I would gladly take an AO quality story over an AA and AC one any day. They know how to write great characters, and character relationships. In one game AO nailed Batman/Alfred, Batman/Joker, Batman/Gordon, Batman/Bane, Batman/Barbara, Joker/Harley. The story was not perfect, but by god it was gold compared to the previous games.

At any rate, Origins is the first game in the series where I have had a lot of fun gathering challenge map medals. I know I can't get them all, but 205 isn't a bad number.:woot:

I'm on my last trophy: Campaign Ninja. If I get this, Origins will be the first game for which I've unlocked all achievements.
