Batman: Arkham Origins

A few things I wish this game did different

- Have Batman have several encounters with Deathstroke instead of beating him during the first meeting. Hell the trailers made it seem he'd be one of the highlighted villains in the game and would have a much bigger role. Lost opportunity.

- Instead of being one of the assassins, make Killer Croc a bodyguard for "Black Mask" and perhaps give his assassin spot to someone like maybe David Cain.

- Have Deadshot and Shiva be apart of the main story instead of being side missions.

The Deathstroke stuff still bugs me. They were actually planning to give him a bigger part. At one point in the game he was supposed to hunt you down in a Helicopter. No idea why it didn't work out. Budget? Time constraints? Maybe they just couldn't get it to work like intended.

I thought Deathstroke's amount of screentime was sufficient. With him being inserted into prominent parts in other DC franchises/entries, it was nice that they did not overdo it.

Replaying this to prep for Arkham Knight and this is why I don't like it as much as the previous Arkham games.

The bugs and glitches are horrendous. I am talking things like not being able complete a Predator Map because a thug mysteriously materializes inside of a wall where I can't get to him (or even SEE him without detective mode). That stuff should've never been in the final release version of the game.

The story is kind of derivative. Making Joker the main villain is not something I have a problem with, but everything Origins does with the character kind of feels "been there, done that, bought the T-Shirt". It doesn't help that the "8 assassins" plot gets swept under the rug far too early in the game, with assassins like Deadshot and Lady Shiva getting relegated to side quests.

The story also has far too much prequel-itis. We didn't really need to see the precursor to the Titan formula from Arkham Asylum, or having Bane turn into a mindless hulk like he was in the previous games. Given that the story takes place in Batman's second year as a crime fighter I don't understand why we needed pointless cameos from Harley Quinn and Quincy Sharp (end credits) that needlessly contradict stuff established in previous two Arkham games anyway.

The skill tree/upgrade system is needlessly restrictive. It's possible to play Asylum and City and never get any Combat or Bullet Armor upgrades. Yet Origins forced me to waste three upgrades on each in order to unlock and get the free flow combat and gadget upgrades it took half as much time and XP to get in the previous games.

Did I mention the horrendous bugs and glitches?

I just played it and didnt come across any bugs or glitches. Mind you, its the PC version

IA on the 8 assassin plotline. I had no clue alot were even in side quests as I just did the main story.

Funny that Im now going through AA after playing AO and that game is a bit rough around the edges, more so than I remembered

What was up with that Suicide Squad teaser in the end? Seemed odd considering this was a prequel game and WB:M werent set to make the next game in the series

I think Deathstroke was meant to have a larger role in the game. But yeah, that "after credits" sequence was a little odd.

I am guessing Goeff Johns wanted that **** in there. He loves Deathstroke and the Suicide Squad which is probably why those things have gotten such huge pushes in other media the past few years.

Is there a way to change the batsuit in the Cold Cold Heart DLC?

You mean to one of the alternate Bat suits? No unfortunately not. Couldn't do that in the Harley's Revenge DLC for AC either. You should be able to with these DLCs.

About how long would you say the Cold Cold Heart DLC is? Worth the purchase?

Ah cool, that's pretty good then. I really enjoyed HQ's Revenge. Might have to pick this up then, possibly Initiation too.

Thanks for the answer.

I agree about the glitches, faced that said bug, it was solved by restarting the mission, but it sucks to try since the start after the guy in the wall remains the last one.

The upgrade system did feel quite a bit more restrictive,.

I have one thing to add:
Initiation is a bunch of predator and combat rooms, Bruce Wayne skin and different gadgets for that skin.

the Mr. Freeze boss fight is quite challenging on Cold Cold Heart

felt like throwing my damn controller

I think this game gets a lot of undeserved flak. The biggest problem it had was that it had so many glitches at launch. Such as the game freezing. But most of those have been patched since then.

Beyond that, I found it a perfectly cromulent game. Yes the gameplay was virtually identical to City, so no, it wasn't innovative. But no less fun. The story was actually better than City's. It had a FAR superior version of Bane, in both looks and story. Origins' Bane felt like a primary mastermind and a threat, whereas Asylum/City's Bane was... more of a sub-boss/side-quest lunkhead. I think that's the best version of Bane outside the comics. Furthermore, it introduced a lot of new villains to the franchise and gave some obscure ones exposure, without over-using most of the already established ones.

All and all, not a bad game, freezing problems not withstanding. CCH was also much better than HQ's Revenge. And now people can't go around saying it's not canon as not only has Rocksteady said that they consider it canon, but Arkham Knight also makes a few references to Origins.

I hope we'll eventually get a Remaster of this game on current consoles. It's disappointing that only Asylum and City were announced as Remasters.

I hope Two-Face gets that Bane treatment in their next game.

And for once, please, a game without the Joker.

WB Montreal is a DC gaming developer. Says so on there site:

"We are a studio with dual expertise - A passionate dev team developing DC Comics-focused AAA games that evolve and celebrate the legendary brands of Warner Bros. and a Services group which is an extension of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and works across the entire slate of games to ensure the best possible player experience."

They might want to jump on the wagon of the movie and enjoy the momentum it'll bring (if any), so I don't doubt that it's a Suicide Squad game, though I'd prefer it to be linear.
