BvS Batman casting thread for Man Of Steel 2

Jett was trolling with Duhamel FYI.

Not sure what you mean by 'trolling'; based on his original article, he was just putting a list of names out there, and of that list, I like the four actors I mentioned as a potential Bruce Wayne.

Not liking the idea of a forty year old Batman. The man can be grizzled and experienced in his thirties, and the age gap between him and Superman would be so huge you run the risk of taking a huge element away from their relationship. Stories of an older Batman would surely be a very interesting twist, but not now, when he's about to go up against Superman. Not really feeling that idea at all.

This.

Superman is already in his mid thirties in this series (33; possibly 34 in MOS2).

There is no reason why Bruce can't be the same age.

And Brad Pitt would suck as Batman. So would Josh Duhamel. Like...seriously?

The thing is, people in their 30s play 20s or even teens all the time. By casting older you really get across the idea that this is a more experienced Batman without having to say a word of dialogue to explain anything. His age may not even be mentioned specifically in the film. They won't have a shoehorned Jesus parallel to thrown in there. :o

In his podcast yesterday he said that some of the names were legit and some were made up and thrown in by him on purpose. Most likely to obscure and protect his source/leak. It's pretty clear which were the fake ones though.

simple answer why i only like 1 actor in his 30's for bruce and thats fassbender but i like plenty in their 40's

What about Joel Kinnaman? After thinking about, he is definitely up there as one of my favorite choices. And yeah, my Swedish bias weighs in a bit. ;)

He can definitely display the smooth business type with a darker side/troubled past as seen in Snabba Cash (Easy Money).

I like Kinnaman as well for the role.

Duhamel's suggestion was a joke. Did you even listen to the podcast?

...goddang it, WES BENTLEY AND MICHAEL C HALL ARE YOUR BATMANS PEOPLE!!! COME ON!!!

Says who?

Duhamel might not 'seem' right for the role, but neither did Michael Keaton, and he actually turned in a very good set of performances (at least IMO, anyway).

As for Pitt, the man has talent, even if you're not a fan of his, and based on that talent, he more than has the range to pull off a convincing Bruce as well as an intimidating Batman.

Edit: Even if some of the names Jett mentioned aren't actually in contention for the role, I see no harm in putting it out there that I think they'd be a good fit.

Elba for Luthor! He would be fantastic in that role. (I'm not aware of Luthor's origins so I don't know if the character HAS to be white or not)

In STAS people at first thought Luthor was being portrayed as an African-American (apparently the creators thought they were making him look Greek, and he was lighter skinned than Clark), which evidently was bad (I guess, a "why are your heroes all white, and your badguy is black" tpe thing), so later they made him lighter.

If Perry White can be black, Luthor could be. I doubt they will go that route, a white Superman vs. a black Luthor, but there is no particular reason why they can't.

Since they have confirmed that Lane will be in the MOS2 cast, I really doubt they will cast Brolin.

My thoughts exactly. With the incidents Lane and Brolin had, I doubt WB is going to want this type of controversy surround this mega-production. But who knows?

I hope it will be someone between thirty five or slightly over forty i think is reasonable. A grandad is a little bit exaggerated. It worked with bale. Why not play it safe? A narrative with a young actor was completely implausible and impossible. How children will go see there favorite superheroes? They would arrive in theater and see an other guy playing there Batman the backlach and the overreacting could be fatal. Like it happened with Joel Schumacher on batman Forever and Batman and Robin and please don't say these films were great, it was a complete scrap.

No, if superman was white blonde and had blue eyes, then you could complain.

You know what, Jett deserves credit here. He ran with his scoop two days before the trades, and a lot of people here immediately were trying to shoot it down.

Credit where its due.

Agreed. I've always liked Jett and have been following him since '06. Though I've noticed his ego has enlarged over the years, but if this turns out to actually be true, good for him and his site. If not, well **** I'm curious to see how he's gonna explain it because something like this is too hard to shrug off.

Says who?

Well.....me, for one.

Duhamel might not 'seem' right for the role, but neither did Michael Keaton, and he actually turned in a very good set of performances (at least IMO, anyway).

Duhamel is Hal Jordan Green Lantern. There's a great missed opportunity there. Slap a green mask on his character from Transformers and make him an air force guy, and bam - you got Green Lantern.

Pitt is talented, but I will see him as Luthor before I ever see him as Batman.

I never saw Luthor as black on Superman: TAS at all. I never got how those people could even make that distinction.

Luthor can't and shouldn't be black. Too iconic and well established in his own. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Here's the thing though: Not every actor, unconventional or not, is a Keaton or Ledger. Those just happened to be unexpected and unconventional choices who were also great actors that just worked. Just because someone is unconventional doesn't mean it'll work. Now I'm all for out of the box choices, but I gotta be able to see it in them before I can believe.

if a 33 year old superman is a rookie in his year 1 how is a mid 30's batman a seasoned veteran ?

I said that Gosling was the only person I liked off of the THR list, but have to amend that and say that I wouldn't have a problem with Richard Armitage in the role either.

Well, Micheal C. Hall still acts pretty well opposite his ex-wife every week. Brolin shouldn't have a problem lol

Plus I doubt Bruce and Ma Kent would have many, if any, scenes together

If they go an older Batman route, they really should hook him up with Clark's widowed mother. It would give the characters a whole new dynamic.

I like Kinnaman too, but wouldn't him being Robocop be a problem for him to be Batman?

And no, I did not listen to the podcast. (tell you why below, lol)

I used to like Jett but he's become something of an egotistical *****e.
