March is no longer a slow month. Studios see it as another month to slate their blockbusters in, hence why WB moved BVS up from a crowded May 2016.

And the $280 million domestic total is seriously lowballing it. Unless it has toxic word-of-mouth, it's going to open big and close above $300 million domestic. At least.

Low balling isn't the word for it i guess he hasn't seen the trailer ben affleck looks exactly like bruce Wayne batman fans are going to eat this up 400 domestic will be the floor for this FLIM 650 will be the roof

No way will this film stop at 280 mill domestic. It's opening will be more than half of that. It would have to be absolutely dreadful, that almost no one goes to see it beyond the first weekend.

Man of steel made 291 one it's own this movie will double that number

No, the movie needs good set pieces, or moments that pop. Avengers and Furious 7 had those, but so did Dark Knight. It doesn't have to be in the similar vein as Avengers or Furious 7. How well they handle the Batman/Superman fight will affect the re-watchability of the film.

I think some people are forgetting that this movie is all but guaranteed to end with Batman and Superman teaming up and kicking ass together to face a common threat, with Wonder Woman in tow.

If that doesn't give people a sense of joy, I don't know what will.

It'll break 1 billion easily but anything above that... highly doubtful at this point. It needs to build up DCU's strengths so if the script turns out to be great (in Terrio I trust), future endeavours are looking good - b.o. wise - for DCU.

man of steel may have made $115 million at the domestic OW but only $73 million at the foreign OW box office while a movie like furious 7 made over $245 million foreign OW, why? because WB projected a WW total of 600-700 million for MOS (and they were right) while universal predicted a huge box office for furious 7 therefore furious 7 for a 5 day OW (Wednesday to Sunday) opened in 64 markets in over 10,000 screens to achieve that massive OW overseas and man of steel? only opened in 24 countries (cant find how many screens)

however if WB has enough confidence in this film (which i hope they do) then i hope that they to focus on their foreign box office and from Wednesday to Sunday open in 60+ countries to 10,000+ screens like furious 7 and hopefully (including the 3D and imax 3D) makes a foreign OW of $280m with a domestic OW of $170m+ for half a billion in a few days!

My current prediction stands at 1.1 billion WW. A lot more people are excited for this than I expected, and I'm not talking about the hardcore fanboys. Just the mere concept of a face-off between two easily recognisable characters is enough to get the GA interested in this film. I feel 1.1 billion, while not exactly the floor, is still a safe number. Based on WOM, this could be bigger than we're expecting.

To be fair Man of Steel should be compared with Batman Begins, b.o. wise... BvS is the breaking point, the one that should 'explode' on b.o. ala The Dark Knight.

I believe when Episode VII hype slows down (sometimes around February 2016) the audiences should be fully prepared for the next event. Poor Warcraft needs to be reeeeally good to survive for those two pesky weeks in March because when BvS hits it's going to be massive.

I'm glad that it's coming out in March because Snyder practically invented it with 300.

Sounds like you're moving the goal posts/revising history to fit your narrative. The Nolan Trilogy was pretty dark. You're calling Joker "playful" when he had a grotesque scarred smile and murdered people.

MoS had playfulness, more than TDK, that's hardly a factor when it comes to box-office.

Beloved comic book characters will bring in the crowds, just like Marvel did. Later on, if it's any good (fingers crossed) - newly created DC Universe. Once you build the foundation, floors are much easier.

man of steel could've had the same playful banter that the dark knight films have and they tried, poorly why? three words David S Goyer i mean he may be a good story writer but he cant write a script for ****e (ghost rider SOV for example) and his attempt at humour god bless him they were ****, "nothing, i just think he's kinda hot" i mean really? the dude sucks at scripts in every corner, however you know why BvS will have better humor then man of steel? two words Chris terrio i mean look at ARGO a serious movie that puts you at the edge of your seat in multiple occasion yet has time to put in witty well-timed jokes like "ARGO-***** yourself!" terrio is a master at creating a dark and suspenful script while implementing good humour, so in terms of BvS humour? in terrio we trust

As long as reception to the films is mostly positive (like 80% on RT at least), then people don't know what they're talking about if they're not predicting at least $1 Billion WW. The two most iconic Superheroes in the world together for the first time, along with Wonder Woman's first appearance. It's gonna make buku money.

If BvS ends up being great, not good, but great, I can see it reaching Avengers 1 numbers.

Someone can be playful and evil at the same time. Joker's magic trick, dressing up as a nurse, or applauding Gordon's promotion are examples of dark humor.

Will this thing make a billion? Probably. Even if domestic isn't strong I think international will put it over the top. I just don't think it's absolutely guaranteed, just like Avengers wasn't until we saw opening weekend numbers.

Have you seen that franchise domestic numbers? Even before 3D. Comparing their individual domestics to the likes of the mcu solos(i use the term solos loosely), would argue something different.
Sure this last film made a boat load over seas, particularly in china but only seems to be an issue when it comes to this movie and no the many dozens of movies that live and die on china money.

Secondly, if you take away China's haul from the TF4 total, it's still higher than most other films even if you still give them china but crazy if you don't(particularly in it's own year).

Just a shame seeing things get mixed up in such a way. Talk of the films supposed quality till the cows come home but respect the facts.

"Joy" and "Fun" aren't the only things define good experiences for people. I wouldn't even say that about animation(especially over seas). Even if there are preconceptions that this stuff is supposed to be 'joy and fun', not everyone shares that or even knows that or even thinks that.
There is a reason something like Kingdom come can be loved, there is a reason something like Daredevil(netflix) or GOT or TDK can be loved. It's because people like what they like.

It's getting old the sentiment that things are supposed to be anything but good. It's why we have much loved spy movies like Bourne and Skyfall as well as Kingsman and Uncle and even mission impossible all at the same time. It's why we have comedies and dramas. Comic books and the movies they are based on can be any range of things as long as they are engaging and speak to people, and the harder the do that the better they perform. I get joy and fun as an incentive to see a movie, but I also get road worrior and the original terminator and american sniper and gone girl and alot of other reasons one may like a movie.

It's a short sighted conceit at the end of the day. One that would argue that a film series based off of the hunger games wouldn't do well because it's not selling 'fun and joy'. It boils down to understanding what it is infact selling and who that may speak too. Clearly not GotG fans, because people can only like one thing or another...

It'll make a billion. I feel like that's a guarantee. Could have a crap WOM, could drop after its first week or two, but this film will be the only big release until Civil War comes out roughly a month later. It's going to do fine. No Avengers numbers tho.
