That's due to it's release dates.

Hellboy 1 came out while Passion of the Christ was going on. Yes Hollywood. Release a character named Hellboy soon after a Jesus movie....

Hellboy 2 had The Dark Knight to deal with.

But still Hellboy 2 likely broke even and made more. It made 160 on a 85 budget and with home release it likely got in the profits.

I hope so I always saw Hellboy as a trilogy. But after what I learned about box office profits. They probably didn't make any money.

Innocence is bliss brah...

67% drop in Australia. Apparently worst drop for any movie opening over 10M in Australia.

Competition from Kung Fu Panda 3 as well which opened this week down here.

They probably made money just not a lot

1 made 90 million on a 60 budget.

2 made 160 on a 85 budget

Factor in home sales and they probably made some profit.

Hellboy just had bad luck. He had to have both his films face off against Jesus and Batman.

Honestly if you do Hellboy 3, release it on Halloween or something like that.

So how much we looking at this weekend?

Good grief...

They don't need to change the tone. They need to make a good movie. And i mean REALLY GOOD. Is that so difficult? Focus on ONE freaking movie without thinking about the sequels. Focus on one good plot. Forget about dumb unnecesary subplots that only eat time and add nothing meaningful. Focus on less characters and develop them better.

I have been defending this movie but all this crap is pissing me off, because now i know that they will try to make these characters a lot lighter and we will end up with a MCU clone. I love darker movies, and these type of movies can work. But they need to be really well written and directed.

What pisses me off even more is that the recipe for a good Batman/Superman movie wasn't really that hard. They only needed to focus on Batman and Superman and forget everything else. Develop their conflict carefully and with time. You have Superman? Show us Superman doing Superman things. You have Clark Kent? Show us Clerk Kent. Don't just show us Superman with glasses. Approach Clark as a good opportunity for some comedy relief. Forget about Wonder Woman, forget about Doomsday, forget about all that crap. Focus on these two HUGE characters and deliver what the fans really want to see.

Is this that diffult? You want me to direct these movies? I can direct them for you, WB. You don't even need to pay me. Just throw me a slice of pizza once in a while.

Damn...how can people who get paid million to do a job be so bad at it? Can anyone explain this to me? You have all the ingredients to make the best dish in the world and you still manage to screw it. Man, that takes talent.

So, now we're gonna have the sugar coated version of Batman because this movie didn't make money? I'll pass.

I'm kind of amazed that WB didn't look at TAS2 as a defining example of what not to do. But sure enough, they fell into the exact same trap that Sony did. It's almost uncanny.

It's right there in the title. You've got Batman v Superman, and then Dawn of Justice. They tried to cram two story ideas into one film.

This is about how I feel. I do feel they need a lighter tone for Superman but about BvS in general.

I mean how can you **** up a movie starring Batman and Superman when we have over 75 years of Superman comics, over 75 yeas of Batman comics, numerous Batman and Superman video games, cartoons, animated movies, live action movies, live action TV shows, and more.

It's like the teacher giving you a test that is open book, open note, that you can be with a group and share answers, and finally that the teacher gives you the answer key to and you still fail.

Snyder is on a whole new level of dumbass. Snyder may be the stupidest director of all time.

Myself and others called it months ago, an ASM2 situation was entirely possible. No-one wanted to hear it though.

TAS2 and Spiderman 3. 2 perfect examples at what can happen at the box office, even with A-list heroes, when you cram too many different arcs into one movie.

Hell, there's barely of any of the two stories IMO.

Batman v Superman is basically...one fight and a couple talks. The rest is Bruce trying to prove Lex Luthor is bad news. And the world judging Superman.

And then the Dawn of the Justice part, is just split second cameos from the Leaguers and Wonder Woman joining into the final battle.

It truly doesn't focus much on either to justify either part of the title.

Frankly pitting them against eachother in the first movie was a bad idea. Most people have no clue about tdkr or why they would fight.

Spider-Man 3 wasn't an issue. Raimi wanted to use Vulture instead of Venom, Sony forced him to do Venom.

Raimi's pitch with Vulture sounds perfect.

Because Snyder has this weird thing with Frank Miller and Alan Moore. What's hilarious is that even the latter admitted that these characters should appeal to a universal audience.

Snyder is just enamored with deconstructing superheroes. Not a great launching point for a shared universe.

I feel bad for Scoot McNairy. Can you imagine cutting off your legs just to have a supporting role in this movie?

What?

Because Snyder has this weird thing with Frank Miller and Alan Moore's darker material. What's hilarious is that even the latter admitted that these characters should appeal to a universal audience.

You can't expect to make box office dollars if all you are doing is tearing down the heroes. The audience doesn't want to be taken to a world that is more miserable than the real one, they want to see heroes who are doing good so for a few hours they can forget about how crappy the real world is. Marvel's movies do exactly that, that's why critics like them, that's why they've done well at the box office.

DC kind of never grew out of the deconstructing heroes thing strangely enough. Even identity crisis came out in 2004, and that was about 10x worse than tdkr and watchmen in that regard.

Nolan's film didn't have to deconstruct anything, and two of the three grossed over a billion dollars.

Oh man, I just wandered into the positivity thread. Fear not everyone! Apparently Forbes does not understand how financing works and this movie was paid off before it even hit theaters. :funny:

So, you've been defending this movie knowing it's bad?

............

No.

I enjoyed it to a certain degree. But i feel it still missed a great opportunity. It could have been so much better. There's really no science behind making a good Batman/Superman movie. It had everything to work and they still managed to do something underwhelming.

I'm not a hater, i'm not a blind lover. I've said plenty of negative things about the movie. I'm not here representing teams. I was disappointed because i know how much better this could have been.

Yeah, i don't think it's horrible. But it's certainly not what i hoped for.

Deadline:
‘Batman V Superman’ Takes A Dive With -70% Second Weekend – Saturday AM B.O. Update
Anthony D'Alessandro said:
Well, the poor reviews and mixed word of mouth are finally taking their toll on the second weekend ticket sales for Warner Bros.’ Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. This morning, BvS woke up from a hangover to learn that it’s on its way to a -70% weekend drop of $50.7M. That fall-off is one of the steepest for a superhero film, topping the -69% posted by 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. All this despite the fact that Bruce and Clark have the Friday-Sunday period all to themselves, without any new wide threats from the other majors, not to mention the added benefit of 30% K-12 schools off, and 9% of colleges on break, per ComScore. The second Friday till for BvS of $15.3M, down 81%, looks like a collapse compared to last Friday’s $81.55M which included $27.7M in previews. Even if you strip the previews out ($53.85M), BvS’ Friday-to-Friday decline is still big at -72%.

Now, these fanboy and -girl films can be heavily frontloaded. A Warner Bros. source was quick to point out the 72% drop weathered by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.1M opening, $47.4M second weekend) as well as the 69% to 70% crashes experienced by The Twilight Saga pics New Moon and both Breaking Dawns. The major difference with Deathly Hallows 2 is that it faced competition from Captain America ($65M) in its second sesh, whereas BvS doesn’t have any big rivals this weekend. Unfortunately, BvS’ drop isn’t a case of ‘the bigger it opens, the bigger it falls’: There’s been too many of the $100M-plus superhero openers to show that second weekends can sustain a -50% to -60% slide. Whether BvS hits $1 billion worldwide is still TBD, and we’ll have a better indication after international reports roll in.

Warner Bros. is aware of fan discontent with BvS’ moody tone: the fanboy blogs lit up like pinball machines two days ago with buzz of reshoots on Suicide Squad (due out on August 5): Apparently the studio is lightening the mood for a more fun Suicide.

No, you don't understand. The movie isn't dropping like a brick! The haters are just in denial of it's box office success.
