Is that correct, has no superhero movie like this never dropped this much in its second weekend? I mean if that pans out?

The one that really matters: 70% surpasses Batman & Robin, which dived 63% its second weekend.

Steel wasn't this wide a release, Hell Boy 2 at 70.7% is this movie's biggest competition.

No it doesn't, they hated this movie, not outright denounce the DCEU, make a good film and the chinese audience will see it in droves.

Besides the film didn't do so well in China mainly because of its dark tone according to Variety:

In other words change the tone of the next films to a lighter tone and it'll sell wonders in China.

This is far from spelling doom for the DCEU in China, calm down.
How did TDK do in China?

And if you want to get super-technical, that doesn't count. Marvel and DC have joint ownership of the term "superhero" (not kidding, look it up), so technically only movies with their characters can be superhero movies. So properties from Dark Horse and Image are disqualified.

HELLBOY 2 HAD TO DEAL WITH THE DARK KNIGHT AND MAMA MIA ALRIGHT!!!!

Sigh, Hellboy never can catch a break. First Hellboy 1 had to deal with Passion of the Christ and Easter time. Then Hellboy 2 had to deal with Batman and Broadway.

Don't blame audiences for Hellboy not grossing well Hollywood. Blame your ****** release dates. Now finance Del Toro's Hellboy 3.

IMHO Steel doesn't count. I recall the 2003 Hulk dropped 69 percent.

Hulk dropped 67% or 66.9% to be exact...not much different from 69% however.

Yeah Snyder will go from grim dark to grim medium dark.

I love the two Hellboy movies, but they never did gain traction witth general audiences. Always hurt.

That's due to it's release dates.

Hellboy 1 came out while Passion of the Christ was going on. Yes Hollywood. Release a character named Hellboy soon after a Jesus movie....

Hellboy 2 had The Dark Knight to deal with.

But still Hellboy 2 likely broke even and made more. It made 160 on a 85 budget and with home release it likely got in the profits.

I don't believe TDK was released in China...it was released in Hong Kong, however...
No 3D, no China, 8 years of inflation in between, BvS still isn't going to get close.

Hellboy was ahead of its time. Prior to The Avengers no one thought the more fantastical elements of comic book movies would work on the big screen. Avengers changed that. HEllboy and Hellboy 2 fully embraced these elements before the audiences did.

77% decline in Britain, 87% in China.

Damn.

Really, not at all? Wow. Was there a specific reason for that?

I can't remember, but I think back then China was just opening up to US movies and there were only so many "slots" available for US movies. I could be wrong though.

Poor Hellboy 1 & 2 never got the chance to really make a mark at the box office. Which is a shame because they are both great and are often overlooked when people are compiling their Top 10 superhero film lists.

Something tells me that a brutal vigilante who thumbs his nose at authority wouldn't resonate well in China...

The only upside is that one of theaters near me may pick up Midnight Special next week.

China closely regulates the 'import' films from Hollywood. Each studio can only have so many releases there a year (it was just 6 each last I read about it) and China has to approve those releases too.

This was an official statement from WB on the matter:

“Based on a number of pre-release conditions that are being attached to ‘The Dark Knight’ as well as cultural sensitivities to some elements of the film, we have opted to forego a theatrical release of the film in China.”

67% drop in Australia. Apparently worst drop for any movie opening over 10M in Australia.

Probably something to do with the Hong Kong sequence. China's market also wasn't as big in 2008 as well.
