Meh I dont need to have there conflict setup over 2-5 movies. Weve already gotten how many batman and superman movies. The characters are established and I dont mind them doing the opposite of marvel.
These are new versions of the characters. This isn't Bale coming in to fight Cavill. That might have worked. But this is a Superman who had one prior movie with barely any dialogue and a brand new Batman with a barely fleshed out back story to why he is the way he is.

There's no real reason for them to be fighting the SECOND film into the DCEU.

And it's just writing 101. Things are more rewarding when they're set up slowly. Not just thrown at page in haphazard way.

Batmans backstory snd motivation is the most fleshed out backstory in cinematic history.

So your saying everything should be like marvel then and we never deviate and try new things?

I think the problem is this movie actually gets worth in hind sight potentially.

I saw the film initially with a friend who really liked it at the time and was like "f the critics they don't know what they are talking about".

I met up with him today, he told me he now thinks the movie was really a confusing mess.

I have to believe there are others with delayed buyers remorse hurting the word of mouth.

Seriously what else is there to say about batmans backstory and origin. How many freaking times do I have to sit through his parents getting shot and providing his motivation to fight crime. Just like spiderman just get the hell on with it.

Not what we're talking about.

This is a Batman who has fought years of tough battles, lost a Robin, is killing and branding criminals and we have no real explanation beyond a few lines and sight gags.

Ugh. A reported $15 million this Friday. Looks like it might not even break 60million this weekend.... I'm not even sure 900million is a safe bet...

Theater was half-full (or half-empty, depending on how you see things) when I saw it tonight. Crowd was dead, kids were bored and and getting up and going out throughout the whole movie. Guy behind us said loudly that this was his least-favorite DC movie.

My dad went on a rant so epic afterwards that I just want Rotten Tomatoes to hire him for pull quotes.

Should've recorded the conversation.

My dad had me in a laugh riot after the movie.

You just answered your own questions on the motivation

Wow. From what I gathered, I think my opera screening was more full than the BvS screens today.

I think the My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 screening next door had a bigger crowd...

WE know this because we are initiated and know the comics so we can fill in the blanks...detective style. The G/A do not. It'll confuse the hell outta them and that's what was meant.

Sigh..... if it doesn't make a billion, then that's very disappointing but nevertheless this should still make decent money for WB.

I just hope going forward WB focuses more on stand-alone storytelling instead devoting too much time to universe-building. It's tough because they want to build up their DCCU but perhaps Marvel's approach with solo movies first may have had the perfect blend of shared universe building and solid stand-alone movies that can hit the right note with the casual movie audience.

It's not all doom and gloom, WB still has time to right the ship. It's too late to pull Snyder off JL1 though.

Keep in mind, there are a lot of back end deals where the cast/crew take a cut of the profits in exchange for a reduced paycheck up front so that also will eat into WB's profit margin after this thing crosses $800m WW and thus becomes profitable. So an $850m WW total(which looks like a good ball park) doesn't mean WB just made $50m off this movie. They made less after those cast/crew with the clout to command back end deals gets their cut of the profit too. I know Hollywood accounting in notorious for making even the biggest grossers look like they lost money but at the end of the day math is math and those cast/crew have their own lawyers & accountants combing over the corpse of this movie's box office to make sure they get what was agreed to. Point is that at best WB is only going to make a tidy profit from this movie and that was not what they signed up for. They expected a big money payday.

Very good points. The revenue stream from merchandise sales and home video could still help but yes, I think WB executives are going to be very concerned.

Amazing Spider-man also made decent money.

I think having a Batman solo ahead of this film would have worked well.
