And you'll still call it a failure despite how big of a number that is. This board has a personal vendetta against this film.
A ton of people on these boards, myself included, thought this film would clear 1B for sure. A lot thought it had to potential to do even more than that. I understand 800-900M WW is still a financial success, but relative to this movies potential it's still underwhelming. That's all we're saying, we don't have a vendetta.

You speak as the head of WB doesn't see the complaints from critics and fans and the fact that the movie isn't making the as much as it should.

You speak as if they didn't totally ignore the criticisms of MOS and instead recklessly doubled down on them. The heads of WB aren't very bright, hence the predicament.

I almost hope that it does. That'll send a much more clear message to WB, because if Suicide Squad does better than BvS they can't use tone as an excuse for Bvs failure to resonate with most of the audience.

Tone is a complicated thing. I think the tone of this movie is criticized because it is wrong for these characters, film, and the tone was poorly executed. I'm still hyped for Suicide Squad because the dark tone fits the characters and the film still looks like fun. Ayer knows how to make dark films still entertaining. Look at Training Day, that script despite being a dark film about police corruption, had a wonderful sense of black humour that prevented it from feeling dour like this.

I really hope WB doesn't take a simplistic view of this BO and conclude that people only want light, irreverent superhero films. I want dark and serious for Batman. Light and serious for Superman. Dark and humourousnfor Suicide Squad, etc. But all of the above with a decent dose of fun because these are all popcorn movies.

I digress. I am just in shock trying to use humour and reasoning around how the box office turned out this way. I watched the movie but I didn't think the GA would be so quick to pick up on the WOM. It was like a forest fire the way it spread and it cannot be contained until the flame quenches what's left of its theatres.

Bad word of mouth about a Batman/Superman in a social media driven world was always gonna catch like a forest fire.

Just like it would have if it had good word a mouth. We'd be talking about it threatening Avengers I box office

I think they should just double down on the Snyderness next time and ride this ship to its inevitable conclusion.

This is EXACTLY what I thought while watching the movie. I had hoped they would improve on certain things, I actually ended up liking it less than MOS...

Because it worked so well last time they did just that. You wouldn't be saying that if it was your money.

Well now that we know 700m by Monday-Tuesday is happening
1B is still far off but possible

If this movie had positive WOM it would be much easier to see the path to a billion but right now all I have is the relatively successful domestic run compared to other films

Glad someone's on the same page.:cwink:

You're talking to the guy who took all his Fox shares and put them into Time Warner this year. This is why I trust facts, my opinions are ****ed.

Ok so what's the word on the numbers today, guys?

Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice

BATMAN V SUPERMAN scored $85M overseas this weekend, $419M total. Global tally is now $681M.

Perspective (the more you know)--BvS has passed the worldwide totals of MAN OF STEEL, IRON MAN 1 & 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and THOR.

prof·it
ˈpräfət/
noun
1.
a financial gain, especially the difference between the amount earned and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something.
"pretax profits"
synonyms: (financial) gain, return(s), yield, proceeds, earnings, winnings, surplus, excess

85M is a bit higher than expected for this weekend internationally compared to the weekdays
hmmm
900-1b is back on

It is doing pretty well given the bad reviews it's gotten. The problem is how much they spent on it. The fact that they have to make somewhere from 800 to 900mil means that what normally would be a good run is still not great for WB.

Plus it's front loaded. No new markets to open in means every weekend will be nothing but big % drops.

Actually, the drop this weekend is about 81%. That's despite the lack of BO competition too.

Technically the film has to make over $1 billion to justify itself. Otherwise they could have just stuck to Batman, who can already bring in a billion by himself but on a lower budget.

People on this same board doubted my estimate of 70-80 million international. Depending on how Sunday goes we could be looking close to 700 mil in 10 days.
