BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - Part 13

Melissa McCarthy's two previous films, Tammy and Spy, opened with $21,600,000 and $29,000,000, respectively, with the latter losing out to Transformers: Age of Extinction, a high-budget action flick on the same caliber as Batman v Superman. Based on this, I think that the boss will lose to BvS.

Also reviews haven't posted yet for The Boss, I'm thinking this will play out more like Tammy rather than Spy. However, Identity Thief was critically panned and still did $34m OW, though with little competition. I'm also doubtful The Boss will beat BvS but we'll see. If BvS ends up #2 against a critically panned McCarthy comedy, that would be another slap to WB's face :funny:

AoE was on it's second weekend. BvS will be in it's third.

I wonder what today's numbers for BvS are going to look like. What do you think?

It doesn't matter, because it was ultimately another high-budget blockbuster that dethroned AoE, which was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. A low-budget comedy is not going to dethrone BvS.

I highly doubt that BvS has a 3rd week BO drop of less than 50%

WOM is way too toxic.

Well, on the bright side, this should expedite the Blu Ray director's cut right? :):(

How much do you guys think Captain America: Civil War's opening weekend will amount to?

Here's my updated model results based on the weekend actuals, along with percentage drops. I'm only doing day-by-day for a week, then I'll just do a week at a time.

Week 2: $63.6 million (-64.9%), cume $273 million
---Monday: $3.39 million (-75.8%)
---Tuesday: $3.62 million (+6.77%)
---Wednesday: $2.65 million (-26.9%)
---Thursday: $2.58 million (-2.39%)
Week 3: $29.2 million (-54.1%), cume $302 million
Week 4: $13.2 million (-54.9%), cume $315 million
Week 5: $4.6 million (-65.1%), cume $320 million
Week 6: $1.45 million (-68.4%), cume $321 million
Week 7 (weekend only): $103 thousand (-91.6% from prev weekend), cume $321.1 million

If BvS has a 51% drop it would be looking at a $25m weekend. Given that McCarthy's last movie had a $29m OW it isn't unrealistic to think The Boss could be #1 at the theater. Especially if you factor in the 10-14m watching The Masters on Saturday and Sunday and the terrible WOM I could see BvS having a 55% drop which would give it a $23m weekend.

I'm thinking with the poor legs and global release, there's a good chance this comes out on home video sooner. However, not sure if there's any correlation between global releases and earlier home video releases, maybe someone else can comment on that. I imagine WB would want to tap into the home ent window sooner rather than later, and not drag this out for no real reason.

I certainly hope so. Despite my disappointment in the movie there are several I am desperate to watch again. Also, I am curious the DC can do for BvS what the DC did for Daredevil and Watchmen.

Didn't they already announce the Director's Cut release? July 16th.

Agreed. Loved The Watchmen DC. Daredevil DC didn't fix it, but did make it better.

No. Amazon posted that info incorrectly. Didn't come from WBHE. Forbes was contacted by WB to retract their piece about it last week.

Oh, and I forgot to say it earlier, but the actual weekend-to-weekend drop (sans Thursday) was 62.9%, compared to 56.5% for Clash of the Titans and 54.6% for Furious 7.

This 2nd-weekend drop shouldn't be too disconcerting, because the final Harry Potter film had an even worse 2nd-weekend drop of 72% and went on to earn $381,011,219 domestically. BvS still has a chance.

Grace still in denial and comparing DC fans who hated this to abusers.

Yeah, she is hard to take seriously.

Wow, Zootopia had a -16.7 in its 5th week according to her data.

Safe to speculate that there may have been a date similar to that, but poor BO made them consider putting this out sooner? Hence the retraction.

Sure. Could be. Or cancel it. Or postpone it till next year (have two years of Bluray releases).
