BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - - Part 14

Technically there's a chance anything happens.

But, no. It won't hit $900 mil.

I think the ceiling for the BO run and if Warner allows it to scrape ala the Titanic; $850 is probably the goal right now. Not sure if it can get there, though.

Probably not, it'll be lucky if it even gets past Zootopia

Wow, that's crazy. Before the movie was released, I was all but sure it was going to make a billion. At 850 million, does it still make a profit?

I think getting over 800 million will put it in under performing, but not a bomb at least. I think it's going to end up doing enough to secure more movies as planned. On one hand people expect the WB to think, "Oh this didn't hit a billion and got panned very bad." but on the other hand they might think, "Well, it did do over 800 million and was a panned movie. If we can fix the brand going forward, we can do well over a billion with a decently received film!"

:o

Wow, Jungle Book is going to be huge overseas next weekend. It did $28.9M in just 15 markets (including Australia, Russia, and India), which according to Deadline is double what Cinderella (which finished at $341M INT) did in those same markets OW. BvS may well be looking at yet another 60%+ drop next weekend internationally.

WB should be more concerned that BvS has turned into one giant joke in the media. Bernie Sanders even got a slam in on the movie the other night. The box office meltdown is nothing compared to the long lasting effect of the start of your extended universe becoming a punchline...

It'll take two movies to "fix" the brand, at least. If JL looks and feels the same as this one, people will not turn up opening weekend. Maybe the later weeks if critic reviews and WOM is great.

I can't wait to see The Jungle Book crush this movie. This is headed for the single digits next weekend. Three weeks and it hasn't even crossed $300 million or $800 million WW.

Damn. Those statistics on the bottom are brutal. It's not even going to break Top 50 highest grossing domestic or international releases.

That's as of right now though. It may well finish in the top 50 both domestically (>$309M) and worldwide (>$825M). Of course, it began with top 10 potential (>$448M and >$1.16B respectively) so that isn't exactly a win for WB.

I always guessed 800-850 million if you look back, but I'm not just going to toot the proverbial horn. Some of those posters did stipulate the larger numbers hinged on it being "IF IT IS GOOD/GREAT RECEPTION"

Of course you did have some others saying ridiculous things like "It will make a billion even if it sucks. It is Batman and Superman!"

That was me. Oops...

True but they avoided a pure bomb, which was certainly a possibility.

Looking farther into the future.

I dont know how McCarthy-Falcone movies usually perform 2nd week but next week Jungle Book (with positive buzz), Barbershop 3 (people don't really mention it on here but I have a good feeling it'll be a relative hit)

So next week I think there's a possibility of BvS being number 3 or 4. And then the week after that Huntsman comes out. Not sure how that's tracking I know reviews are bad, then the week after that Keanu will be a hit and I think Mother's Day could do a little something. Then after that is Civil War.

In a month since release this could be out of the top 10

Kudos for owning that. I was in the boat predicting $1.3B but expecting a good film.

Yeah, I have to give WB credit. By embargoing reviews and opening almost literally everywhere at once, they were able to hit a huge OW number on the character popularity and marketing campaign. If BvS was released staggered internationally, I'm sure the total would have been worse as WOM leaked into other markets.

McCarthy flicks hold surprisingly well; Tammy also had a C+ CinemaScore and fell only 42%. BvS is almost certainly going to be third with JB in first and Barbershop second. The real question is how will Zootopia hold up against JB. If it continues to drop so lightly (unlikely since JB is a family flick), it is looking at $10M and could push BvS to fifth.

Looks like it's time for the daily reminder....you can disagree with someone all you want because they have a different opinion about the movie than you do....but when you start insulting them, laughing at them, and making fun at them...you get infracted.

At this point I think the only reason It's gonna top $800 million is because of how well it was marketed (minus that one trailer), how front loaded it was, and the placement of it's release.

They REALLY screwed up with this movie given their expectations. They weren't thrilled with how Man of Steel did and this is doing worse than that despite them sinking even more resources into it.

Stupid question , but as a long time lurker who just recently started posting, how will you know if you get infracted?

So against oh-so formidable competition such as Melissa McCarthy, in its third weekend a film with the Trinity is making less than films with just Iron Man (any of them), Captain America (TWS), and even the Guardians of the Galaxy, most of which opened under $100M. That's what bad legs will do for you.

Jeez...

It's just hard to imagine any films with even a 250 million budget needing to make 900 mil + in order to break even/profit.
900 millions is the money that WB wont get. If they get only 500 out of 900 its not hard to imagine right :yay:

the question is just how much did they spend on marketing. A LOT.

Zootopia has been killing it.

If you had told me earlier this year that Zootopia would end up out grossing Batman V Superman I'd have laughed in your face.

Same with Deadpool outgrossing BvS domestically, nobody could have predicted that.
