Has it opened everywhere overseas now?

I think it opened in almost all the WW markets (and certainly all the major ones) the first weekend. There might have been a couple a week later, but afaik there is none left now.

this film is crawling just to hit 300 domestically lol

It will have crept over $300mil on Wednesday's business. $800mil ww will likely be the only 'milestone' left to claim for WB on this one. Should get that by the end of the weekend, then a limp over the next few weeks to whatever it ends up finishing with (I'd guess $830mil ww at the low end, ceiling is $850mil for me).

You're right "numbers are numbers".
ANd from the numbers, BvS isn't turning much of a profit. It made more than Iron Man overall, but I'd be surprised if it's turning much more of a profit.
And don't even get started on how many people loved RDJ and what that did for later films

Numbers are numbers, and by the end of the year, WB "risks" to have earned more than $1.5b thanks to 2 movies based on DCU properties.

Yeah but again youre ignoring the fact that that's not 1.5 b profit. If I make something for $100 but I only get $110 back it's not that good. It's not bad but the goal for every business is to make a large profit. No smart person goes into business to make as little profit as possible.

But Im not even going to entertain this back and foward. I feel like the difference between gross and profit is going to be ignored over and over.

MOS was DC's Iron Man.

It was supposed to launch DCEU.

They shouldn't have done a trinity movie without slowly building up the event.

Marvel's formula for a cinematic universe was perfect. Trying a new and questionable formula (no gradual build up) was always misguided at best.

When multi billions are on the line, you use the formula that is tried and true.

Agreed

So this is not hitting $1 billion anymore? I just found that it was already released in China (with big drops for the 2nd/3rd weekend) and Japan.

I think thats pretty disappointing given the early buzz for the film like when the first trailer was released and people were predicting that it was gonna earn more than a billion because TDKR also earned a billion and that this is Batman/Superman.

Highest grossing is a factual statement. Successful, outside of personal opinion, is not factual when looking at all metrics (profit, critical rating, audience consensus).

Don't engage :(

Ah, you're right. I should know better.

I still find it baffling that this is barely breaking even. As well as some much needed quality control, WB really needs to look at how much they're willing to pour into these films and where it can be scaled back. Then again, you do think BvS should smash all in its way...

JL is in trouble. It won't have three weeks by itself. It will have a more sceptical audience who will wait and see first. It might end up grossing less.

Yeah a Billion isn't happening without the film having a Box Office comeback the likes of which has never been seen before, especially with the Jungle Book this week and Civil War in two weeks. Even $900million is becoming more remote. Current projections put it more in the region of $850M WW with a domestic take around $330M.

Well I don't think it will beat BVs' opening weekend.

And even if Wonder Woman turns out to be a great film, it wouldn't have the same effect as a great Batman movie or a great Superman movie would have for JL.

Yeah unless things really change BvS is going to have a big impact on the OW of JL. If WW and SS do well then it might still leave people open to the DCEU but I'm expecting to see audiences being more wary of JL, less willing to dive in blindly and instead waiting on reviews and WOM.

Damn I just looked up about when JL is released. 2 weeks later Episode 8 opens.

If I was WB i'd push it back to March 2018. Idk I really can't predict how JL will do box office wise.

It's shot at a billion ended a while ago.

Even if Wonder Woman is a hit, she'll be in a movie that is directed by the man who did BvS.

Anyway bringing things back to the box office: what do you guys think it'll make this weekend
I'd guess $12mil at best. More likely around $10mil. Could be lower if Jungle Book kicks off really well.

All good points. Let's not forget we are already two movies in into the DCU and BvS is going to make something like 850-900m worldwide, which is a profit for Warner Brothers (yes it's less than what they could've made if BvS was good).

Is it a profit though? I read somewhere (I think it was Deadline) that it needs to make 925M to make a profit at the box office. Is that true, or...?

WB's stock has been on the rise the past week or so, seems like investors are happy.

At $925 million it basically breaks even at the BO, but would make another $200 million+ profit from dvds, video on demand, TV rights, etc. So it's probably profitable right now...just not the cash cow WB was hoping for.

Ah, I see. Cheers for clearing that up.
