Most would have said the same of Spectre but it ain't gonna make it there.
Everyone's gonna watch it opening weekend, sure. But after that it's up to it's quality to get it passed the billion mark.
The foreign totals have become so important. Looking back, MOS' foreign totals ended up being more troublesome to its bottom line than the second week drop off.
What else is going to opening up after that for weeks?
I haven't looked but even if there's nothing that doesn't guarantee the billion. People still have to like the movie. I have yet to see the movie that crossed the billion $ mark on pre-release hype alone.
Avengers, iron man etc.
And there's not gonna be hate for it to the point where no one wants to watch it again, in fact Man of Steel domestically did really damn well for a Superman film with no franchise legs.
Domestic totals:
MoS: $291m
Thor 2: $206m
The Wolverine: $132m
Cap TWS: $259m
Xmen DOFP: $233m
Man of Steel made more domestically then those superhero films with far less competition, the only problem was the foreign box office like STARMAN pointed out, but with the insanely high growing market of China this film will do damn good overseas.
My BvS predictions are:
DOM: $400m
INT: $700m
WW: $1.1 billion
Besides if a film like the third hobbit film (which was a mixed as Man of Steel was) can make $700 million internationally on a december then im sure as hell Batman vs Superman will make that aswell maybe even more.
Yeah, people just HATED those movies. That's why they didn't just crawl to a billion $ but blew passed that mark by several hundred million $ each.
You don't measure legs by comparing it to other film's totals. You do it by measuring how far it goes from it's opening weekend, percentage-wise. And MoS had a pretty poor multiplier. Now you can blame competition all you want but neither of those 2 big films it was competing with went on to any everlasting glory either. Basically it was 3 mediocre films slugging it out. Had MoS been as good as proponents suggest then it would have cut through the others. It didn't. Most movies that open as big as it did cross the $300m DOM mark with room to spare. It didn't.
Tolkein's works have historically been more popular OS than just about any American superheros.
In Britain and australia/NewZealand yeah but not alot of other places lol.
Other films in the same genre have faced much worse competition and still managed better legs. The competition excuse only goes so far.
Batman sans Bale has never been in that ballpark. We'll see soon how folks'll take to this new version.
And just about any movie has some people saying it sucks. For my money it's better than any DC movie since Batman Begins(I'd give BB the edge over it though). But far more people said what you said about MoS than about IM3.![]()

Until recently those were the biggest OS markets. Now China(and other Asian markets) throws everything a curve ball and we don't know how it's X-factor will play out. How did MoS do in China? Chinese audiences love it when a movie panders to them. If BvS has some of that then it could help but I'm not factoring that in right now as I don't have any evidence they did that at this time.
A root canal is better than TDK. I despise that crap. Damn Deus Ex Majoker BS.
Well hey, i respect every hypesters opinion but damn lol.
The Chinese market was small as hell in 2013 compared to know, hell even Man of Steel made more in China then every TDK trilogy film, thats how much its grown.
IM3 did gangbusters in China in 2013. Yes, it has not stopped growing since but it was already huge by 2013.

TDK, one of the best CBM of all time, never got released in China.
