BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - Part 8

Is there any projection for how much thus film could drop next weekend?

From what I understand it's expected to have a 60% drop. Anything less than that would be impressive, anything more worrisome.

Everything we've seen is about "as expected", and even came out on the low side of the tracking, as the high end was projected at $185.

The Monday number will be the most telling. Furious 7 had a -57.7% drop. The percentage for this if Sunday is really 37 (which I think it will be closer to 35 when the actuals come in), if the Monday number is under 15M this film is in big trouble.

I don't think it's all "so expected". After MOS a looot of people here predicted that Batman V Superman directed by Snyder would have never had a big opening week end.
In any case do you think that WB will put on hold their plans after a movie able to generate 420m in 4 days? :awesome:

Worldwide.

It's got a shot at Batman v Superman's domestic numbers. If only because of the addition of Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the positive buzz surrounding the film.

Yeah I agree WW won't happen, but it's got a staggered release. The single release is a great marketing tool for WB, and they will sell the hell out of it to their investors. It will probably take some of the sting out of the negative reaction to the film.

TFA has an audience score of 89%, it should have a multiplier smaller than 2.7x but its multiplier is at 3.7x and increasing. Why is that?

Winter releases, especially from December, have much better legs.

The Hobbit had 3.5x.

WB is so sad that you did not like the movie

Yeah, and none of us are going to get a single dollar of it...so I don't see why some of you are celebrating so much?

As fans we should care much, much more about the quality of the movies because that's what matters to us. This movie's box office will determine the future of this franchise.

If some of you are fine with the way these movies are, that is critically panned and divisive among the GA and only truly loved by fanboys, and more similar to Transformers than Marvel or Star Wars, then cool, I guess. This was WB/DC's second chance, and remarkably they did even worse than MOS in all but box office.

Some of us have higher standards for the characters we love.

In 66 territories after an embargo on reviews! C'mon already.

I don't think anyone predicted that.

In your opinion.

I'm aware.

If people want movies that divide both fans, critics, and general audiences, then all the power to them because that's what they're going to get.

Its really not. a film about Batman and Superman should have majority buzzing about it like Avengers. Whether like the film is irrelevant. Response has been mostly negative.

it works both ways buddy dont hope it doesn't make money then supporters wont gloat if it does

After Star Wars, blockbusters in general are going to need to get creative to swing at the opening weekend records. Releasing the movie all over the world at once is a great way to make sure your movie is on the box office map.

I can't imagine anyone predicting less than 150 M opening weekend. Maybe someone did, but it's ludicrous. I think the biggest hater or most pesimistic fan would say at least 150M.

That's true. Has this ever happened before, where a film was released all at once across the globe?

Probably not. BvS would need Watchmen-like legs which I just don’t see happening.

Watchmen had good legs? I wasn't aware of that.

It's marketing 101. But once you get outside of opening weekend, reality starts to set in if there isn't universal praise.

You can't go back and have revisionist history. The film was tracking from 165-185M. It hit the tracking range.

It was McWeeney who said if the film doesn't hit a billion people will lose their jobs. He has good connections in the studio, and he called it for the way WB played the embargo a month before it happened.

The only thing remaining is to see what kind of legs it has. Like I say it only needs 2.26 X to hit a billion, but that's easier said than done. I still think you're looking at a 65-70% drop in the second weekend, or a Spiderman 3 like 60+% drop with subsequent 50% drops with no stabilization.

Really? Only fanboys got it a $422 Million opening (or whatever the final number is)? Are you even reading your posts anymore?

I find it hard to believe that many people that post around here are flat out idiots. Anybody saying that MUST have been trolling.

This movie was always going to have a strong opening weekend. The only time there might have been any doubt about that was when it was set to come out the same day as Civil War.

Why would I want this to succeed? I love all things relating to superheroes and the idea that studios can churn out something like this on the biggest scale possible and still make a nice profit saddens me. We've been living in a superhero film renaissance, a true golden age with both the MCU and the Nolan trilogy setting a very high bar, and now we have a movie featuring the two most iconic superheroes of all time and it's no better than a Transformers film. The characters and fans deserve so much better.

Amen brother, I said the same thing yesterday. This is now the era when we, who love superheroes and comic franchises, can see all of our favorite properties brought to the big screen. A truly great time. But we're getting some dark, depressing nonsense shoved in our faces....it's just not good enough.

Totally the same feeling I had when I watched the first Transformers movie and the first GI Joe movie. Sickened to my stomach, thought I was going to get two more great franchises to chew on for the next 10 years, instead I saw them once and haven't seen another one of their wretched sequels.

The characters and the fans truly deserve better.

I think WB will look, take stock and be like - " what would have happened if reviews were better? "

They will go into JL with one eye focusing on reviews, they will be aware that another movie with bad reviews wouldn't be the best way forward.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ben Affleck was asked to be more involved with Zack.

I don't see how someone didn't expect a big OW. They added the biggest draw of DC, Batman, and the trailers have been successful in creating hype (save for one). This was always set to make a lot of money.
