That's going to work extremely well in its favor. That and the fact that it has the same advantage Deadpool had in having no real competition for the coming month.
Dude, your avatar scares me. Lol

SUN for #BatmanvSuperman came in about $4M below studio projection at $33M+. Opening wknd of $165M+, still huge at #7 all-time.

Looks like it may not have broken the record, but the $170.1M estimate got WB the headlines they wanted.

Thats the estimate that WB gave out yesterday, these are the actuals that are starting to appear. Over at Box Office Theory there was a lot of doubt over the $170.1M estimate as a lot over there felt that it was more likely under but WB estimated up in order to give them the headlines.

Funny how no one gives a damn when all the other studios do this for all their movies. Wonder why so many are looking closely at the numbers for this movie?

With money this has made people are forgetting about the merchandise sales and tie ins as well. I can only imagine how much cash there swimming in

When Age of Ultron #'s came out wasn't the estimate lower than actual number, it jumped from like 187m to like 191 then 192 .. Why is everyone expecting #'s to go down ??

I've always seen people complain about that when studios use it as a marketing ploy. Deceptive marketing like inflated estimates, false comparisons (BvS beats Avengers) and review embargoes don't go over well with people who follow these things in general. Regardless who is behind it.

Paramount got some flak for trying to boost one of the Transformer's movies opening to over $100 million.

I think it depends on why they are doing it. If it is to get a record, yes, there is going to be a bit more scrutiny.

Because that has nothing to do with box office returns. It's not like people just now started buying Batman stuff

But of course there was... :whatever: :woot:

Oh studios do it all the time and have been called out on it. A popular time for it is when a film does about $99M, studios would far rather say that it was $100M. And at the end of the day people are more likely to remember a headline saying a record was broken to the one the next day that said that actually they didn't quite make it. Its just PR.

It most certainly does factor in from a studio business decision on whether it was a successful launch

Here we go

BoxOffice ‏@BoxOffice 4m4 minutes ago This morning's revised weekend studio estimate for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is $166.1M.

Of course it. As far as the brand goes. But this is a box office thread. So it doesn't apply when discussing box office returns. Merchandise isn't even handled by WBP it's handled by WBCP. A separate division with its own stake. Merchandise doesn't affect the positive or negative reception of box office take. It's apples and oranges, even though they're both fruit.

WB is definitely not angry, that's for sure. At most, they're slightly disappointed, if at all. The movie will be a huge success when it's all said and done. I don't buy all those fudgy marketing budget numbers and billion dollar projection requirements. If the movie cost $250 million to make, it cost $250 million to make, and it's made $420 million in its first weekend.

Because this will clue us in on how much restructuring this franchise is going to get.

The films with good Sundays tend to go up (with the reverse also true) as the weekend estimates are made during the Sunday before all the viewings for that day have happened.

Glad Harry Potter continues to be king at WB. The very thought this turd might take that record was pissing me off all weekend. Now everyone will know WB is full of BS if they try to fudge the number.

I dont understand all the hate this movie is getting, I thought it was great. My only real complaint is there wasnt enough Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
