I loved the film. I think people are just plain too picky. Got this too

^Well associating this movie with trash makes sense after all. ;)

Glad to hear you liked it, Vartha. Maybe my standards are just relaxing too much. I noticed the flaws in the film but they didn't really bother me. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the movie.

What's more, my dad did too (a big superman fan) and I was more worried that he'd be disappointed than I was worried about myself.

My old man is still asking "what are they fighting for? They're supposed to be partners!"

Will your eyes bleed? They will.

I'll go more in depth later but this was just about the worst comic book film I've seen in theaters. Yes. Worse than ASM2 and even GL. I went in knowing it was bad but I was taken aback by just how much worse it was. I wish I was exaggerating because at least I could find some semblance of entertainment unlike this movie. This was the most joyless, dark, depressing movie I have seen. ****.

I fell asleep about the time [Blackout]Doomsday skewered Superman.[/Blackout] I'll watch whatever happened after than on a pirate/streaming site online. I'm not paying to see this s*** again.

Honestly seems like no other comic book movie had such a bad reception here...

A guy behind me fell asleep during the movie and afterwards both said it was terrible and the worst CBM they saw in theaters.

An old man sat rows in front of me and got up before it was over. Must have been a nightmare for him compared to Superman when he was younger. Oh wait I forgot.

"This isn't 1938."

Ok I saw this earlier today with my friends. Just home now. Had plenty of time to process this movie as my friends and I went for a few beers and a proper chat about the movie afterward. I went in open minded but on my guard for potential awfulness. The movie was a hot mess. A rushed, sloppily edited, badly characterized, and very depressingly boring movie. Since my review contains spoilers, read at your own risk if you haven't seen it yet;

Starting with the good. Ben Affleck's performance. He played a great haunted Batman. I liked his chemistry with Irons. And when ever he was on screen he generally out acted and out classed them all with ease. He looked truly great in the Bat suit, although I thought he looked ridiculous in the dream sequence in a trenchcoat over the bat suit. Sometimes he suffered from 'teh puffy' look. But otherwise he was a feast for the eyes. His fight scenes were glorious. Truly like the Arkham games.

However his character is totally brought down by being a murderous swine of a Batman. What sticks in my throat even more is we are given no reason why he has become so murderous. Alfred hints that he wasn't always like this, or maybe he was just talking about things in general as the "It wasn't always like this line" is so vague. But either way it's a bastardization of Batman, and I hated every second of it. Made worse by the fact that nobody, not even Alfred, pulls him up on it. Making Alfred look as bad for letting it slide and still supporting a murderous vigilante.

Speaking of Alfred, Irons was solid, and had good chemistry with Affleck. But I never got that emotional bond feeling that you should get between Bruce and Alfred. They didn't feel close, or that they shared a personal connection or history. I'm not judging too harshly because hopefully it will be done more so in the Batman solo movie (if we get one).

Cavill's Superman in this is hands down the worst Superman we've had in the movies. Even Routh out classes him. He is a stoic character, who shows little emotional range other depression and self doubt. Cavill was so wooden in so many scenes, he failed to evoke any proper emotion in scenes that should have been emotion filled, and he was completed acted off the screen by Affleck. I feel like he had the same expression on his face for most of the movie. I don't entirely blame Cavill. The script and direction also share the blame for turning Superman into a wooden depressing bore.

Now for someone truly terrible in every way - Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. I say whole heartedly with no exaggeration that he is one of the worst CBM villains ever. He was a cartoonish caricature, with paper thin characterization, no clear motivation, and hammed up the movie as a truly annoying character. Why was he doing what he was doing? Why did he hate Superman so much? We get some fleeting mention of his dad hitting him, but it's never elaborated on. If you coughed you'd miss the line. He was always the worst part of the trailers for me, and people kept saying what we're seeing is just a facade act for his real menacing persona, but he was a cartoony ham all the way through.

The last scene with Batman is cringe worthy. The way he got his bald head was really anti climatic and dull. I haven't disliked a CBM villain this much since the trinity of woeful villains in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Now for the ladies. Amy Adams was decent. But somewhere between MOS and this what ever chemistry she and Cavill had fizzled out. I didn't feel much between them in this. Maybe it's because Cavill was so stoic and wooden this time around, but Amy was at least trying. But she can't achieve much when the effort was one way. I still really like her as Lois. Along with Affleck and Irons, she felt like she was actually giving a damn.

Gal Gadot was serviceable. The huge exaggeration about her scene stealing characterization is a classic example of fans totally over exaggerating something. Her entry into the movie saving Batman's butt was cool and all, she looked great in costume and kicked ass beautifully, but she was just an action piece. We learn almost nothing about her character, she has very little personality shown, and the bulk of her screen time is her being totally silent just observing stuff and looking hot. I'm sure she'll be a great Wonder Woman in her movie, but her presence here did not warrant the insane praise I've been reading about her.

Doomsday was one of the worst parts of the movie, and should never have been included. Half the time all I saw was electricity and fire and explosions around him, and I didn't know what the hell was going on. CGI characters were flying all over the place in CGI explosions.

It was also WAY too soon to do the death of Superman. Cavill's Superman has not earned that story yet. This is only his second outing, and there was just no emotional impact there, and I didn't believe the world grieving for him the way they did at the end. Only Lois and Martha's grief seemed in any way real.

Now regarding the actual Batman vs Superman conflict, it lasted all of what 7 minutes? They shared so little screen time together, most of it not even them in any conflict. The way it was resolved with the whole Martha thing was absolutely ridiculous. I thought people were half kidding when I read about it, and there was more to it than they were letting on. But no Batman ends the fight and sides with him just because Superman has a mother named Martha who was captured. Lazy and stupid writing wrapped into one. I don't know what they were smoking when they thought that was the way this epic showdown fans have been waiting years to see should end. Not enough face palms in the world to do it justice for how silly that was.

The amount of dream sequences in this was so frustrating and half the time I had no idea what was going on with them. The worst one had to be Batman's one in Mad Max land. Utterly pointless and a total WTF sequence.

The movie was choppy, rushed, badly edited and never gave the audience a chance to breathe and absorb the rapid succession of quick cutting scenes. I feel like it was several movie chopped into pieces and crammed sloppily into one. I hear there is an uncut version coming. There must be at least another 30 minutes of footage to add on.

The JL email cameos did nothing for me. I really didn't like how Flash looked. The fact Superman is still alive at the end makes all the dramatic stuff about his death seem totally pointless. At least the comics showed his loved ones and colleagues live without him, miss him, and mourn him for a long time before his eventual return. There was fall out and consequences explored there.

I want to give this movie a 4/10, but because Affleck's acting was so good, and the visuals were often great, and Irons and Adams made a good effort I am giving it a 5/10.

Zack Snyder needs to go ASAP. The DCCU is going to be crippled by this guy if he keeps directing the major movies like this and JL. He hasn't got a clue.

Personally I thought this was a great movie. I just don't think this movie is for kids and I think that's what puts some people off with DC movies. I think some people think superhero movies should be made light hearted and care free. However DC has made their movies more for teenagers and adults and I don't see anything wrong with that. I thought the story and action and pace of the movie was great and I personally hope that DC continues in this way and don't try and do it the Marvel way.

To me, this is a great movie.

It's not better than Nolan's Batman or the top tier Marvel movies but it's differently up there with them.

To the ones who hate it, I truly understand. And I agree with all your points. This was not the movie we were expecting for a Superman v Batman film.

But who here who hated the movie, will be seeing WW and JL next year honestly??

Remember when people were hating Miller's casting for Justice League Mortal... Would you take that movie now?

NEdtFhNTsCcKhe_1_b.jpg

No. I love George Miller but I'm glad we're not getting his vision for Justice League.

Mediocre is the best way I can describe the movie. Others have pretty much said everything I would've said. The way the JL was set up in the movie felt too forced. I hope IM2 stops getting crap about being an Avengers setup when this movie is about as much of a JL set up as it can get. If anything this movie felt like it exists because it's a setup to JL.

Deserana

Just got back and even though I was extremely excited to see the film, the last few days did put a damp patch on it significantly. I loved MoS but people had me worried.

To be honest though I really don't know what everyone is crapping on. I thought it was a perfectly decent film. Not excellent, not mind blowing but definitely not the abysmal Batman and Robin ****fest that it's being accused of. I mean I don't know how people saw so little to like.

There are definitely questionable things here. Certain scenes put in very odd places, especially in the middle and very end. As well as some questionable character motivations but I really don't think it was THAT bad. I would definitely describe it as a "mess".

The parts I loved was Afflecks Batman and shoot me but I think Lex is great too. I thought Jesse really played that slimy goofball role well, he was OTT when it was needed but also had a quiet rage when needed. Though his goofiness did cross into extreme and a couple of points.

I thought of it like this. Lex is in his first act, Batman is in his third. Batmans killing is the result of a story that we are yet to see. I believe there will be a prequel where he snaps and kills. And I believe Lex will start off as this eccentric megalomaniac but grow more and more stern and serious.

That's why I really like what this film did in terms of introducing everyone. Everyone is at different stages of their lives. Superman is learning, Batman has gone through a LOT, Luthor is just a young naive dickbag, Wonder Woman has been around for years. That's why the criticisms of "Batman isn't Batman!" And "Luthor isn't Luthor" are confusing to me. No they're not but they probably will be if you let them develop it.

Walter White isn't a classic character because he turned into a badass in one episode. They took their time with it and I can see the same here. People want these characters to be 100% the characters from the comics straight out the gate, here it feels like they are starting characters in one place to develop over time.

In terms of weaknesses I have to say Superman is one IMO. Whilst the movie is all about Superman, Superman doesn't DO much. As in other than one tiny 5 seconds in Africa and a montage there is no scene of Superman fighting solo. Also as much as I love Batman he was useless as **** in the last battle.

Also some shot desicions and scene placements said were just baffling, I'm struggling to remember now but they cut away at one point out of nowhere to show Perry wondering where Clark is. Also they cut away from the big fight just before it starts to something pointless. It really stopped momentum.

Gadot was good but nowhere near scene stealing good. In fact one of her lines was incredibly poorly delivered.

But by far my BIGGEST complaint is... Seriously why was this called Batman V Superman? It's not. At all. They just happen to get a bit tetchy at each other half way through the movie by pure misunderstanding.

I really didn't like it. It went off the rails several times and left me just as bored . It was such a mess that by the time we got to the
Desert Batman sequence
I was cracking up and trying to contain my laughter at how much of a mess it was. I'm still laughing about the
Flash vision when Ezra asks," I am too soon? I'm too soon!"
. The actors were fine though I really do hope they recast and re-write Lex from here on out.

My audience was silent through the whole film and everyone including the kids left the screening in silence. If you liked it and had a good time then that's fine , but I can't say that I liked it. I'm not gonna see it again.

Judging from the reviews here, I am probably the only one who really enjoyed the film.

It was a tight narrative of a man waging war against God-- and winning!-- and the realignment of the cosmos, afterwards. The film was gorgeous, characterizations dead-on (especially Batman!) soundtrack was fresh and invigorating, and narrative tightly wound. The only downside was Jesse Eisenberg. He had one great scene -- the Paul Revere one--and chewed the scenery. I wish they had cast someone like Corey Stoll and toned the over-the-top moments and kept a cooler version of the character whose motivations are magnificent.

I'd rate it a B+ When the uncut version hits shelves, I will re evaluate.

Thank you Zack Snyder for a wonderful film and experience!

The movie doesn't deserve to be savaged the way it is but it was a hot mess aside from Batman, who predictably stole the show. Let me preface by asking the D.C. fanboy community to never, ever throw stones at Marvel and make claims that these movies are 'serious'. There has never been a MCU character as ridiculous, silly, and over-the-top as this version of Lex Luthor. Maybe Trevor the Mandarin. Justin Hammer's moonwalk dance and spray tan thought Eisenberg was a clown.

Speaking of Iron Man 2, this movie was very similar to that. Black Widow/Wonder Woman shoehorned in for fan service, birth of the 'super teams' at the end, the hero appearing before a skeptical bad guy politician (RIP US. Sen. Stern) who don't trust said heroes power level, good guys brawling with each other, a goofball rich bad guy who goes to jail, toying with unknown elements to move the plot along, sadness over dead parents who give sage advice from beyond the grave, and even urine related hijinks. Awesome team-up fight scenes at the end too against ugly monsters with electrical powers. The difference is that Iron Man 2 was funny, something sorely missing from the Snyderverse. If BvS had half as many jokes as Iron Man 2 did, I bet the Rotten Tomato score would be 20% higher.

-Batman was terrific. The action scenes were bar none the best in Batman cinematic history. This is the Batman from the video games and it's awesome. A lightning fast bruiser who punishes his opponents using his martial arts skills, driving ability, and gadgets. Nolan's movies were too grounded to ever see this play out and I'm happy there is a new direction. I love the dark, creepy tone surrounding Batman. It is almost a throwback to the Burton movies.

The problem with this is that Superman was also bleak. This movie would work so much better had they made Superman/Clark Kent more of a fun character. What are they thinking making Metropolis so bland and dark looking? Again, no contrast. Metropolis should be bright with blue skies. The Daily Planet and Lois apartment looked like a morgue. All I'm asking for is a Superman that smiles and occasionally walks into a diner to spin some local toughs around in a chair. Cavill has the chops to play that style of Superman but for some reason prefer him as a stoic Holocaust survivor.

-Lois Lane. Awful. Brings absolutely nothing to the movie other than a convenient plot device. I don't care about Lois Lane trying to infiltrate ISIS. Cut these useless, convoluted scenes out of the movie and spend more time on Clark Kent.

-Lex Luthor. Awful. I actually enjoyed some of his earlier scenes but they just went too far with his silliness. It bordered on a Schumacher Batman character.

-Wonder Woman. Pretty good but really had nothing to do beside look hot and intimidating in a few money shots. I thought it was overkill. Batman and Superman are all you needed for this movie.

I think they can make a DC Universe work from this movie but it clearly shows that DC/WB need to take a few lessons from Marvel. You aren't going to create goodwill for your characters or bizarre properties if you take yourself so seriously all the time. Inject a little humor, heart, and fun into the plot. This can be combined with darker tones. Try watching a Marvel movie without the bias. Star Lord's mom dying of cancer, Ant Man being forced back into crime after leaving prison, Thor losing his power and being abandoned by his father, Captain America watching his first love losing her memory on her deathbed, Iron Man's various commentary on the military-industrial complex and terrorism, and so on. Not everything has to be 'dark and brooding'. This works for Batman but it shouldn't be the template for everyone else.

I love it. Seeing it for the third time tonight.

It has a serious tone and operatic theme. This isn't the light superhero movie you're used to and probably not the cheesy Superman you expect. Marvel movies are awesome, but this isn't trying to copy that. It's carving out its own identity - it's layered and it's aggressive and it's grandiose and it's beautiful to behold.

There's more amazing Batman moments in this one movie than all other Batman movies combined - the batmobile chase scene, Batman's three-steps-ahead strategy for taking down Superman, his mythological reputation among criminals and police, his conflicted and suave Bruce Wayne, and THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE EVER SEEN A LIVE-ACTION BATMAN ACTUALLY FIGHT AND IT'S AMAZING! Batman is brutal throughout the whole movie, he's not playing around here and he's not just a bat-suited Law & Order detective. And by the end of the movie Superman has inspired Batman to be a better person. Yes. YES! This is easily the best live-action Batman ever, Ben Affleck nailed it.

Wonder Woman has a small roll but her presence is large and firmly establishes her as a serious and experienced warrior, equal to Batman and Superman. Her first appearance got a loud applause at the theater I was at. Gal Gadot nailed it.

Lex Luthor was ok. He's a psycho killer genius, but he wasn't the stone cold version I prefer. Jesse Eisenberg wasn't bad but he wasn't great either.
Alfred has some funny one-liners, but Martha Kent has the funniest line in the whole movie at the end. Wait a minute! There's humor?! Yep. It's not a joke-fest like Guardians of the Galaxy but there actually is humor in this movie.

Superman is where all the controversy is. If you've read a comic in the past 20 years you know Superman is not like Christopher Reeve. Not anymore. I grew up with a Superman that could be serious, who exists in the real world where not everything ends up rainbows & sunshine. Superman in this movie is dealing with some heavy stuff, when he does good things there are sometimes unintended consequences, and even when you're an angel some people will still be cynical and hate you. Some critics cite this as a negative, but this is one of the greatest elements of the movie. It's layered with not-so-rosy situations for Superman, and like a real person he struggles with trying to be a good person in a crappy world.

The actual BvS fight is straight up cool and straight out of the comics. That scene alone is worth the ticket. The Doomsday fight was an exciting heroic battle, interestingly with much less destruction than Man of Steel. The ending. . . HOLY CRAP.

The first half of the movie suffers from pacing issues, it really could've lingered on scenes and let us catch our breath and enjoy a scene longer. The second half was perfection though. Some Justice League setup was maybe a little forced, but just like in Iron Man 2 I was totally ok with that because I love the extended universe setup. There's a scene in the middle that comes out of nowhere and it's way out there and non comic book fans will probably scratch their heads, but I literally have a comic in my house with that exact scenario, so sorry non-fans that scene was for me.

Most fan reviews are positive, but almost all of the critic reviews are negative. Here's why that is: Superman's one of the most well-known characters in the world and there are more expectations and preconceptions with him than there are with any other superhero. The critics saying it's too dark are saying that because their limited exposure to the character was probably with one of the cheesier versions, or only with other recent lighter superhero movies. This creates a bias in our current movie climate against a more serious and adult Superman movie set in a world where there's real consequences to superheroes.

Let me be clear on this: MOST OF THE CRITICISM OF THIS MOVIE IS COMPLETE BOLOGNA. Don't expect this to be Iron Man, it's not trying to be. And that's a GREAT thing. I give it a 4.5 out of 5. Go see this movie, go in without any preconceptions of what it should be, and just enjoy the experience, because Batman is in a movie with Superman and they fight and then there's Wonder Woman and they show other superheroes and then there's Doomsday and that ending and there's going to be a Justice League movie holy crap!

Why is it, it's mostly the relatively new user, low post count guys who are so glowing about this film?
