Mystery/Thriller BBC's Sherlock

I've never thought about it before, but I suppose a lot of Irish people do sound a bit... mentally challenged. Just listen to any woman from Belfast say "Weetabix" for a good example.

Oh and btw the actor playing Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is originally from Dublin, though he now lives in London.

James Nesbitt, Dara O'Briain, Ardal O'Hanlon, and Colm Meany don't sound nearly as godawful as that Moriarty.

I didn't mind his voice, although I was slightly taken aback by the fact that the actor seemed to be playing Moriarty the same way John Simm plays The Master. Not that it was a bad performance, it just seemed a little derivative, especially from a show being run by two Doctor Who writers.

Great episode.

Did not see the Moriarty reveal coming at all. I don't know what to think of the performance yet. But I do like the fact that Moriarty was the last guy we expected and not some devious old man or more mature looking guy. To think I thought Mycroft being Moriarty before he was revealed to be his brother in the first episode.

And the damn cliffhanger. Good, but dammit. There better be more.

I've just gotta say, I LOATHED that Moriarty. I'm actually angry that they dropped the ball so very, very late in the game.

The whole miniseries had been leading up to that encounter and what'd we get? A complete dork doing a piss poor John Simm Master impersonation. I mean, what was up with his voice?! I had no idea what he was even saying half of the time and I'm Irish!

Moriarty is supposed to be the flipside of Holmes. His dark reflection. Where was the icy stillness? The dark, ruthless intellect?

I also thought the cliffhanger was fairly toothless too, since we aleady Know Holmes doen't shoot the explosive vest.

I issue a challenge: If you can watch that episode again, I dare you to get through the Moriarty scene without thinking of this...

Caught on to the show last week, and is it just me or has every episode been progressively worse after what was a very good first episode.

The only thing keeping this show afloat right now is the strength of its main cast - I hope they can turn it around because the last episode SUUUUUUUCKED. If they had focused on any one of those mysteries I would have been happy with what we got, I'm especially worried as we now seem to be stuck with an AWFUL Moriarty.

I'm glad to see others feeling the same way as I do about Moriarty. It really surprises me that the show runners failed so badly on such a major character when all the other aspects of the show are nearly perfect. The actor for Moriarty needed to be on par with Cumberbatch (who I think is absolutely amazing as Sherlock) or it wouldn't work. And the guy they got just doesn't work.

The actor who plays Moriarty is nearly the weakest actor in the entire cast. That's including Anderson, Donovan, Mrs. Hudson, and Mycroft's aloof assistant who spends all her time texting. The only character I liked less than Moriarty was the lady from the morgue who seems to be stuck somewhere between crying and laughing in every scene she has.

I was literally stuck between wondering if he was ******ed, had an accent or was trying to disguise his voice.

I vote "all of the above."

Am I the only one who was shouting [blackout]"LOOK AT THE SKY!"[/blackout] during the scene with the painting? It was pretty damn obvious after we saw the painting and John visited the security guard's flat. Sherlock & John should've figured it out minutes after meeting back up, after searching the internet on their phones.

lol, too funny but sadly true.

As someone else said when we were first introduced to Mycroft, I also thought he was Moriarty. I think they did that on purpose and if they did then the way Gatiss played that part should have been the template to model Moriarty.

If we get more shows I hope they just recast the actor or tell us in the show that he was just another pawn of the real Professor Moriarty.

I'm pretty sure he's the real Moriarty. He did what no one else did. Trick Holmes. I can accept this Moriarty if I see more of him.

The actor just needs to play the character differently. We don't need a villain who sounds like an Irishman doing an impression of a mentally handicapped Thurston Howell.

I agree. That part they could tone down. He seems to be bipolar or something. But I like that he's a younger guy. When Holmes was pointing the gun at him I bought them as already enemies.

I was only put off when his voice went really high pitched and spoke like a little kid. I did like the part when he actually yelled at Sherlock...he needs to employ more of that intensity.

I will admit to laughing at...
Sherlock: "Catch you later."
Moriarty: (high-pitched) "No you won't."

LOL that was terribly funny.
Hopefully Sherlock blowing up the bomb causes Moriarty to regenerate and...oh wait, wrong show :(

I've enjoyed this series and I thought most of episode 3 was really well done. However I HATED Moriarty, the guy was too all over the place and came across as silly/crazy man rather than an intellectual match for sherlock.

I thought Mycroft was Moriarty too when they first introduced him too.

All in all though I'm looking forward to the new series, they announced it today on the bbc radio!!

I saw the 3rd episode yesterday and I share the same feeling about Moriarty as most of you, he was a disappointment but I liked the episode nevertheless.
I half guessed who it was when the old lady said : his voice is so soft.
Introduction of the Irregulars : nice.
