Justice League Ben Affleck IS Bruce Wayne/Batman - Part 6

I'd much sooner call Ben the liar from constantly trying to convince fans he was still playing the part (and directing the movie, for that matter).

Not much Affleck can do if Reeves wants him out. Which might very well be the case. And Affleck never said he would definitely direct the movie, he always said he's gonna do it if script's right. And we all know things were very volatile at WB around that time. If its a young Batman, I know its not Affleck I'm blaming...

I've always said this : If Reeves wants to have a younger Batman and no constraints...do it under the elseworld banner. If you want to have freedom but play with the in universe Batman like Wan and Patty are doing, you write a story about Affleck's Batman. Affleck could easily pass as a prime late 30s Batman. There are literally no excuses.

Came across this pic. Am I seeing this right? Is he smiling? Wonder if it's for the scene or if he's just plain happy to be Batman'ing it up. This was back during JL's principal photography so still when he was going to make his Batman movie.

The problem here is this assumes the problem (if you could even call it that) is Reeves, when it's likely a way more complex situation. Reeves wants to tell a story about a younger Batman, but Affleck has reportedly been cagey about whether or not he even wants to come back in the first place, so I doubt it's as simple as Ben wanting to be in this movie but mean old Reeves trying to force him out. And then from a studio perspective you have the unfortunate reality of Ben's two appearances as Batman (three if you count Suicide Squad) having been in movies that weren't as well received as the studio would've hoped, so there's not gonna be any real audience resistance to a new actor if the studio does want a fresh start.

Mario Robbles recently drew an analogy when discussing Henry Cavill's possible return to the franchise, where he said right now Henry is unfortunately less of a Tobey Maguire and more of an Andrew Garfield. I feel that goes double for Ben, sadly. Which sucks because I feel he deserves a big unambiguous win in the role. But it is what it is.

I haaaaaaaaaaate the idea of deaging Affleck.
It’s such a ridiculous suggestion and I’m seeing it more and more. :funny:
Affleck is done being Batman.
The last thing I want and the last thing this movie needs is a heavily CGI’d Affleck sleepwalking through the entire thing. :funny:

heavily? did you see the video? there's a difference but it's slight.

Yeah, Ben was a great Batman—I'll always stand by that—but this is getting embarrassing.

It doesnt matter if Affleck is cagey or not, if Reeves wants to do a younger(mid 20s) Batman story. If Reeves casts say...Gylenhall as Batman, I could probably say "Yeah Affleck didnt want to be part of this franchise, they got a new guy. Fair enough". That's if Affleck wants out. Which many people are just assuming because tabloids. But if you write a story from the get go that rules out the dude, then that's on Reeves. Which we dont know yet, which is why I underlighted the if in my prev post.

If you write a young Batman story, Affleck cant do it. If you write prime Batman story, Affleck can do it. If you write an older Batman story, Affleck can do it. So the ball is in Reeve's court. Like I said, Wan/Patty/Daley&Goldstein arent doing something with their story that requires a recast. If Reeves wants to do a seperate story, he should do it in the elseworld banner.

And then from a studio perspective you have the unfortunate reality of Ben's two appearances as Batman (three if you count Suicide Squad) having been in movies that weren't as well received as the studio would've hoped, so there's not gonna be any real audience resistance to a new actor if the studio does want a fresh start.

This could easily apply for Cavill,Momoa and Miller as well. They have been part of movies that have not done too well either. If that's the criteria, they better reboot. But that would be stupid. Affleck(atleast in BvS and SS) was very well received by most of the fans and critics. He's a solid Batman. And before you go with the "but the GA wont care" argument, the GA wont care either if say Flash doesnt have his logo on his chest. But fans will get upset. So that's no criteria for decision making either :funny:

That's sort of my point. If Reeves were writing the movie on the assumption that he's getting a new, younger actor and WB signed off on it, I don't see it being the case of him getting rid of Affleck. That seems like the kinda thing that happens if Affleck is already partway out the door.

Ahh so its a chicken-egg kinda thing. We dont know which prompted which.

However if Affleck really wanted out like you say...why delay the announcement. Makes no sense.

Because they don't have a signed replacement. Only thing worse than letting people know you let go of your star, is you have no one to take their place.

If Ben's departure reaches a press release, the recast announcement will arrive shortly (if not stated within the same release).

Plus, time is a natural healer. Because of the numerous scuttlebutt and speculation over the past year, we're already half expecting Ben leaving. That softens the blow if it actually comes to pass.

Valid point.

Guess we'll know soon enough what happened BTS.

Perhaps he wants Ben to narrate the film, which would still have him be ''in talks'', as alluded to recently, AND fulfill Ben's contract to WB for a final DC project.

We don't know if Hamada wants Ben, if Ben wants to stay, and if Reeves want Ben, and if Ben's willing to commit to say a trilogy....

Plus Ben was rumored to sign with Fox to direct a film a couple of years ago, now he's really directing one for them (not sure if it's the same film), instead of staying with WB's directing family. Quite telling to be fair

Well, that's what happens when you (WB) want to please just bloggers and DCEU haters, at the cost of burning bridges with Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder. Hope they managed to please somebody but who ?

Ha. I still cannot believe how they cut BvS to pieces, like Ben's clout cut to threads....

So technically, Ben is gonna work for Disney now, lol.

I think Gone Baby Gone was produced by Miramax (which is owned by Disney), so it certainly wouldn't be the first time :P

Just as a side note, am I the only one that thinks the de-aging used in Marvel/Star Wars was not that great? I certainly would not want to see that for an entire movie.

Same. It looks weird.

They aged up Affleck in BvS with makeup/wig work. They aged down Affleck in The Accountant. They can easily make him look late 30s in The Batman. That's prime Batman. If I'm not mistaken that's around the same age as TAS Batman as well, he has been around for more than a decade, he has a Robin, he's at the peak of his physical ability.

They wouldn't even need CGI. Just makeup, and not extensive de-aging makeup. Literally just basic movie makeup.

Ha, good to know, that was before Ben became WB's poster boy I think :yay:
