The Dark Knight Biggest Satisfactions

The non-Imax scenes didn't fill the entire screen but was still in a larger format than your average theatre screen.

In terms of the picture quality on the Imax...much much better. This movie is probably going to be the one to get me to buy a Blu Ray player, especially after watching BB on Blu Ray.

If there is any way for you to get to an Imax I suggest you see this film on it.

A good example of the quality is the opening bank heist. On Imax when Joker reveals himself you can fully see all the colors of his makeup as well as the green hair. You can even see that the string that is attached to the grenade in the bank manager's mouth is purple.

Of the times I saw it on a normal screen(in two different theatres as well), when Joker revealed himself the picture quality was dark and hard to see his makeup/face. Almost as if he was in the shadows. Couldn't really tell the color of the string attached to the grenade either.

The Imax version has so much more detail it's beautiful.
Thank you for the info.

So the blu-ray dvds require a different player huh? Is blu ray gonna stay or will i be buying the player only to use it for a couple of years before something else replaces them?

You aren't aware of the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray war that was occurring recently? :funny:

Blu-Ray won. It'll probably be replaced down the line, but...anyway.

Yeah i was, but i never got into details and didnt know who won. Also, nice avatar. I like the joker touch that you added!!!

That's why I'm still contemplating if I should make the jump to Blu-ray or not.

I don't know how many years it will last.

There's been talk that in possibly 5 years, films may go the way of music and be digital. Downloading HD films for a price, kind of like ITunes or whatever.

Scrolling through movies like music in ITunes? I'd dig that.

I'd hate for movies to go digital. I love to be able to hold my movies in my hands.

There will still be a market for collectible movie discs, I bet. People often like having something concrete, which is why books haven't gone out of existence. If it's a good product, they like something really nice to hold and display.

I mean, sure, most of my music is digital, but I'm a huge fan of Tori Amos and I have every single one of her CDs. I can't help it, I just love having them.

Re: the thread title.
That this movie defied expectations about what you normally get from a summer movie, while remaining true to the spirit of the best Batman comics which it drew inspiration from. This movie was not just a superhero movie, it was a crime thriller with comic-book elements, but was not ashamed of its pulp roots either. It respects its origins while adding in something new to the mix.

The upside-down Joker speech. I friggin loved that part.

I saw a movie recently about an elseworld black Tony Stark :cwink: where they said that the porn industry really chose the winner. Dont know if that's true.

And to respond to the thread topic:

"I think you and i are destined to do this forever"
The Batpod
The improved fight scenes and the awesome fighting style!
THE JOKER
Maroni, Gambol and Chechen
Gordon's speech at the end. I dont care what people say. I was having goosebumps for like...an hour!

Couldn't have said it better... This movie just hit all the right spots for me!

Biggest satisfaction I had was when Joker visits Two-Face in the hospital.

The Joker: "Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just do things. The mob has plans, the cops have plans, Gordon's got plans. You know, they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their worlds. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are. So, when I say that you and your girlfriend was nothing personal, you know that I'm telling the truth."

The Joker: "It's the schemers that put you where you are. You were a schemer, you had plans, and uh, look where that got you. I just did what I do best. I took your little plan and I turned it on itself. Look what I did to this city with a few drums of gas and a couple of bullets. You know what I noticed? Nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying. If tomorrow I tell the press that like a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all, part of the plan. But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds!"

The Joker: [Joker hands Two-Face a gun and points it at himself] "Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair."
[with the gun in Two-Face's hand, Two-Face pauses and takes out his coin]

Two-Face: [showing the unscarred side] "You live."

The Joker: "Mmm, now we're talking."

Two-Face: [flips, showing the scarred side] You die.
The Joker: Mmm, now we're talking.

The biggest satisfaction was probably when Bruce took his bike and went to the apartment... not to mention the part where he saves Reese. That's the point where I thought "Finally, that IS Bruce Wayne on the big screen."

But that's just one point, because the entire movie is one, big satisfaction. I'm not saying this just as a Batman fan, but as a moviegoer.

The opening bank robbery. A perfectly done action seqeunce.

Batman interrogating the Joker. Brillant scene.

Biggest satisfaction for me was at the end when the Joker's plans with the ferry fell apart.

The whole movie, Joker was in complete control, he thought he knew everything, and then when the ferries didn't blow up, the Joker had this look on his face that for once he didn't know everything, he wasn't in control, and things weren't going according to plan for him.

Also, Batman using the armblades to stab Joker was excellent.

Biggest satisfaction of course was Heath's Joker performance. Next best satisfaction was Aaron Eckhart's Harvey/Two-Face performance. And the other big satisfaction was getting to see this movie in IMAX during opening weekend. It was the best cinematic experience of my life and I had been waiting 3 long years for it.

redfirebird has returned to the Bat-boards I see.

A big satisfaction for me was that this flick got so much media attention, I mean, they had an item about the Dark Knight on the 6 o'clock news here in Holland, I have never seen that happen with a movie before. And normally they never show much trailers or TV spots on dutch televison, but I saw Dark Knight spots on a daily basis. And also the fact that pretty much everyone likes this movie. I haven't spoken to anyone who did not like it, and some of my friend who have not seen it yet, are dying to see it.

Occasionally I check in. I think for BB3 I'm going to try to stay away from spoilers more than I did with TDK. At this juncture there isn't much to talk about with this movie if you ask me. It accomplished everything we could have hoped for. Huge success critically, commercially, and with the fans. Even the nitpickers who I've fought tooth and nail with over the years on Begins have said they loved TDK.

I like that they drastically changed the Two-Face character and it completely worked in this film. I wasn't expecting that.

My biggest satisfaction was not only the movie itself which is brilliant but the hype surrounding the movie, the hype I was feeling around the time of release where I would watch TV spots over and over to just get my fix of this damn flick. This past summer was a great time to be a fan of both comics and movies and there were nights that I had trouble sleeping knowing that TDK is coming and it was something to look forward to, something that you knew was going to deliver months before it saw release. I mainly got a kick out of the world knowing why Batman is such a big deal with me and like minded fanboys. I didn't care if the world knew, but it was almost as if they were put in their places when they watched TDK on the edge of their seats. This movie was a fever pitch of adrenaline that made July 18th a day to remember and I left the theater that day as one happy camper.

As soon as the lights went off and the movie started it truly was a ride and as cornball as it sounds it was one of the greatest experiences ever to see something I love be depicted so intelligently and dead serious that it was a complete joy all around.
