I hadn’t seen this video. Great behind the scene look of the casino shootout with Coogler doing commentary. The fact they outfitted the heroes with the colors of the Pan-African flag tells you how much thought and time went into this.

It just occurred to me that I've never read not-so-bright-bart except when I've read quotes or headlines quoted from other sources. I have my reasons I suppose.

I'm really disappointed that Coogler and Boseman have made a political statement supporting Donald Trump.....

wait for it

:o

I think us Hypesters should start a fundraising campaign so underprivileged alt-right nationalists can see this movie.

A small underlining in all of this Boseman signed up for 5 marvel movies. BP 1 and 2, Avengers 3 and 4 and Civil War. So when BP3 comes along and yes there will be a BP3, the man is getting himself a RDJR size deal.

They are not going to watch a film where the white actors are Tolkein characters in an all black film.

Can someone explain to me why...

(mild spoilers ahead)

at one Point M'Baku says "Glory to Hanuman"? I can see why the Wakandans worship Bast as she's a Egyptian/African goddess. But why would they worship Indian ape god Hanuman? I know M'Baku is the Gorilla/Jabari tribe's king but it still makes no sense to me. ^^

Black Panther had a 50/50 male to female ratio of moviegoers. Interesting. It's usually tilted to the male side. This is a striking a chord with women, not just POCs.

How could anybody know that with accuracy?

Wonder what the sample size was, buying movie tickets doesn't ever ask me if I am man or woman.

I'm guessing that is part of why the tribe is isolated? In the comics, the White Gorilla Cult's deity is Ghekre, not Hanuman.
So I assume there was some intention behind that change.

The way I see it:

In the MCU, the ancient gods are real. Not as gods per se, but as metas who used to be on Earth, i.e. Thor. So even though Bast is from Egypt, and Wakanda is like next to Uganda, Bast likely really existed on MCU Earth, and likely really was in Wakanda at some point. Similarly, Hanuman likely really existed too, and even though is Indian, likely also visited Wakanda at some point.

BP2 definitely will be at least by 2021 at the latest but at the earliest I can see it being 2020 that we get Black Panther 2

That's if the world isn't destroyed from nuclear war by then #crossesfingers

I have to say, putting him in Civil War and killing T'Chaka was a stroke of genius. It allowed them to explore this movie in such a more interesting way. Marvel is so smart about these things

I know right and his solo film delves more into his origins but also ties into Civil War and Infinity War going forward

Yeah, I rewatched Civil War last night and I was surprised at how much T'Challa and Black Panther are in the movie. He is in two of the big action sequences, he fights Bucky in civilian clothes and he is even around during the third act in Siberia.

I had that same reaction last time I watched it. He probably is the 5th or 6th most important character in the movie. Obviously, Cap, Iron Man, and Bucky I think are top 3, Black Widow prob 4th, but then you have a conversation about T'Challa or Zemo I think as next most important.

Taking place right after the events of Captain America: Civil War T'Challa / Black Panther
takes the throne as king of Wakanda, but being king comes with a set of challenges and unforseen circumstances.

Director/writer Ryan Coogler and writer Joe Robert Cole have crafted a compelling story coupled with a super hero movie.
A story that includes betrayal, loyalty, familial and tribal turmoil, and secrets that can alter a family and kingdom.
While not being preachy the film gets it's points across about racism, but it's also a celebration of black culture.
The cast : Chadwick Boseman,Michael B. Jordan,Lupita Nyong'O,Danai Gurira,Daniel Kaluuya,
Letitia Wright,Winston Duke,Angela Bassett,Andy Serkis, Forest Whitaker and Martin Freeman
all bring something to the table. There is a joy and intensity to their performances that drew me to each of them.It made me invest in them.
We are presented with a villain Michael B. Jordan as N'Jadaka / Erik "Killmonger" Stevens in which when you look at the foundation of the character you understand his motivations, but disagree with the path he takes.
I loved how the film displayed the strength of love for country and family.
The action sequences were stunning, the tribal challenges were intense and drove me to the edge of my seat.
There are great points about personal responsibility. How much can you give to the world and still be true to yourself and your countrymen? Should i remain isolated or help my fellow man?
The film is visually stunning great costume design from Ruth Carter.Along with good touches of humor and words and moments that definitely struck a few emotional chords.

My only problems with the film the CGI was off in a few sequences and there were a few predictable moments.

The film breezes by i definitely didnt feel the films 2 hour and 20 minute running time.

In the end i felt i got a sleek and involving super hero film, but also a message about sincerity and genuinely wanting to unite people. It's the kind of positivity we all desperately need right now.

So rejoice and enjoy Black Panther because this type of film making we dont see often.

Scale of 1-10 a 9

Going off to theater now to see BP. Hopefully I find it lives up to the hype.

Didnt see a review thread so im puttin it here

Some thoughts:

-The movie was very good overall. The highlights for me included the supporting cast, (especially Okoye, Mbaku, and Shuri obv), Boseman was very good and regal AF, but he was perhaps a bit too reactive and got a bit swallowed up by the other wonderful performances.

-The visual design was another obvious highlight; the costuming, the set design, even the makeup and hairstyling. The only visual hiccup to me was some subpar CGI for Marvel; the first shot of warrior falls looked super fake, and the final battle between Panther and Killmonger was practically a video game. Luckily they were brief moments and didnt really impact my feelings about the movie.

-Killmonger, imo, was good, not great. All the talk of him being the best marvel villain is overstated. His motivations were understandable, but I still didnt feel he pulled off sympathetic as well as a Loki or Zemo, and he wasnt as pragmatic and calculated as someone like Pierce. Tonally he also felt out of place to me. Idk, he was a good villain, Id put him in the same villain tier with Hela (whom I also liked a lot but thought needed something more to really elevate it to the next level.)

-The themes were relevant and poignant, but I also thought there was a bit too much ‘telling’ rather than ‘showing’. Isolation vs Globalism is a complex and important conversation to have, but Id have liked to see more of the ramifications rather than hearing characters ruminate on the subject. It felt like lip service more than really diving into the subject... which I suppose is understandable, this IS an action flick, not a documentary.

-Serkis as Klaue was great
-Martin Freeman was also a very good outsider POV character
-The soundtrack felt more generic than I was expecting, thought it would have more flavor
-This film proves once and for all that Angela Basset was born to play Storm, Fox really f***ed that one up

So yeah overall, Id say it was a very good Marvel film, though not its best. Id put it in my Marvel Second Tier. But Ill also say seeing little black kids go running out of the theater super excited after the movie was great to see, its amazing that they have characters they can feel as connected to as us white folks have had for years, and I think thats part of why the reviews have been so resounding.

Therefore, Im currently rating it around 8.5/10
