Can't wait for Sundays INT update but we all know 300 is going to completely own the box office oversease this weekend by a massive margin. Still GR should hold it's own and at least pull in 5-6 million plus whatever it made mon-thur overseas.

As of 6:30p pacific on Friday evening, it appears that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Warner Bros) will coast to an easy weekend win battling past 5 other new films entering the marketplace. My studio sources are telling me that TMNT will finish the 3-day in the $21-$24 million range.

These early numbers are based on raw data from east coast matinees which is compared to early numbers from comparable films. Studios revise their numbers all weekend, and as more data comes in, projections naturally become more accurate, but my sources are in agreement that the super-charged computer animated Ninja Turtles will definitely win the weekend by a comfortable margin.

Second place for the weekend will go to either Warner Bros holdover 300 or Shooter (Paramount) starring Mark Wahlberg. Both films are in the $14-$17 million range. This will be a huge disappointment to Paramount, which has invested heavily in Antoine Fuqua’s thriller. Shooter will not be one of Wahlberg’s Top 5 opening weekends, and it could be as far down as his 8th best 3-day opening.

The lackluster performance will dampen some of the momentum that Wahlberg might have had coming off of his Oscar-nominated role in The Departed.

Holdover Wild Hogs (Buena Vista) and The Hills Have Eyes 2 (Fox Atomic) are neck-and-neck for 4th place for the weekend. My studio box office gurus put Hills 2 at $9-$11 million and Hogs could finish anywhere from $9.5-$11.5 million.

New Line’s The Last Mimzy, directed by studio chief Robert Schaye, will likely finish 6th with an estimated $9-$11 million. That’s not bad considering that the film was scoring zeroes in the industry tracking as recently as 3 weeks ago. Premonition (Sony) is taking a major second week tumble with a projected $6-$8 million in a dead heat with Reign Over Me (Sony) at $6-$7.5 million. Pride (Lionsgate), starring Terrence Howard, will finish no better than 9th with an estimated $4.5-$6 million.

Ghost Rider lost 1/2 it's theatres though...didn't know that. Looks like 125 will be too tough. 120 though is for sure.

Looks like Ghost Rider International Frame will not reach the Domestic one, but still ooks to reach $100 million, and $120 for Domestic, which should align things nicely for a probably sequel. I think a gritty and tighter seuquel could even deliver on the dreaded "R" word, given the success of "300" to dispell the R-rating stigma. I'm a bit worried about cost for a sequel, but given that Sony has already worked on the sFx, and I'm a bit confused why Sony and Marvel don't leverage stuff for multiple films to cut cost. The budget for Ghost Rider shot from $60 to $110 on the back of sFx, so... Anyway, that would make too much sense.

It's already at 95 international and 208+ worldwide. It'll easily pass 100 million international. I think 110 maybe a little more international. Domestic dropped off hard this week thanks to a massive cut in screens. So that's not surprising considering that. 230 million worldwide looks to be about it.

Watching all those 300 scenes and pix, it´s really sad thinking what GR would be directed by someone like Zack Snyder...
OK, kids had their GR film.

On some levels i agree but on others i dont. Seeing as GR takes out demons mostly, there is no need for blood and gore to be flying everywere, but, the movie could have done with being darker in many scene's also, so somewere in the middle would be better IMO.

Remember in Midnight Sons arc where Ghost Rider literally shoved Lilin's head inside her own 'womb' ? t:

Some of the demons/sadistic enemies he faced killed humans regularly and used them like pieces of meat. Skinner is a good example, he didnt get that name at a Lynard Skynard concert, he killed his prey, skinned them, and wore their skin to blend in. Lets not forget Scarecrow and his 'trusty rusty' pitchfork. Lets not forget, Blackout, the Firm, Deathwatch with his blood curdling neck breaking (you could see the spine contorted as he broke it), Hellgate with his Frankensteinish creations, Road to Damnation with the evil demon who made himself out of the sinew, bone, and flesh of all those people, and my favorite - Buttview...the guy who's head was literally shoved in his @ss! Even some of GR's allies were not PG13.

When Vengeance went bezerk, he fried all kinds of people and it was penciled perfectly by the great Salvador LaRocca, here is some pics I took earlier to refresh your memory:

GR is one of the darker characters in the marvel universe and it deals with darker subject matter. Even people who have never seen GR will look at this character and know its a darker themed character. It seems Sony went the 'easy' way out with Ghost Rider and didnt want to challenge themselves or the audience. They wanted a gaurantee in their box office return, and PG13 gave it to them (this movie is over 200 mil now). MSJ said once that if there was to be a sequel, he can 'let loose' and I hope he does let Ghost Rider and his real enemies loose so people can see what Ghost Rider is really capable of.

I understand what you are saying Midnyte, i very recently read Road To Damnation and thought it was great. Though i dont see how the violence couldnt be toned down to adapt into a movie. Obviously Buttview and Kazann would have to be re-designed but even so.

Its a double edged sword really, without the PG rating i doubt GR would have made half of the money it did (IMO), on the other hand it would have improved the movie.

Yes, Raiders is just one of many that have got away with violent scenes, Terminator 3 springs immediately to mind, the bit were the T-X punches straight through the back of the cop in the car still astonishes me in a 12 rated movie.

Ghost Ridaers #'s are updated thru Wednednesday. GR looses 982 theaters starting Friday, to 578 theaters.
