^ Me too. This whole board is like inside info that's legal as are all the other news sites like AICN etc...I can judge the anticipation for the product and if not here...out on the street. It's around 30/share right now which is up big over the last 12 months but trust me...Marvel's price now will look cheap by this time next year. :) Way cheap. My bet is within 4 years it'll triple the price it's at now if it's not bought out. It's one of the safest bets around because they are so diverse and have revenue streams coming in from every possible angle. They're not a one trick horse like Pixar.

Advanced Dark agree with you on ALL points.

I never understood how anyone could say comic book films are just a fad... when they are really diverse. To say it's fad would be like saying, well, "action movies with indestructible heroes and lots of guns" is a fad- yet it is still alive and well.

If the public grows tired of one kind...the studios will adjust. Just like now as they make films based on comics from the 40's-60's...they adjust them to today's time so we won't laugh.

Because of the damage done by previous Batman and Superman films. Those films where BIG budget events and they fell off the cliff, with later films, which soured the money guys to the genre. Marvel's mgmt has been stressing this point for years....if you continue to make entertaining stuff...the audience will come.

BTW, the trajectory for Ghost Rider is different from Daredevil, Hulk, and even Fantastic Four, in that the Friday to Saturday was very enlightening to the movie's potential. The upcoming competition isn't that strong, and Ghost Rider is probably not going to lose any theaters, and might even gain a feew, after the soldout showings this weekend. I'll go out on a limb and say the movie doesn't do a Hulk-size drop....maybe more of a lite FF drop...50-55% (more 55 than 50). This would be huge of course, since the international openings where strong, and with BIG markets opening next week...we could see $200 million 3-4 weeks for the WW gross. A 50-55% drop next week will almost ensure a sequel...imho.

People have been calling things fads for decades...comic flicks, video games, rap music. It has its slumps, but it always comes back when someone innovates the genre.

if we are going by numbers here, then it should be pointed out that batman begins was made for 150 million and it barely broke that at the box office, i think it made about 200 million here and had a world wide hall of 370 million, so the studio got back about 185 million, hardly a money making machine if you throw in the budget for marketing as well, you have about 25 million in profits. now lets look at ghost rider, movie was made for 40 million and lets say it makes 200 million worldwide, finanicial it would a better success than batman begins. even though the critics hated the movie, i really think a sequal is right around the corner, hopefully this time someone other than mark steven johnson can direct it or write it.

Showbiz data has updated their numbers with a 12.9 million dollar Sunday upping the 3 day total to 46.4 million which is above Daredevil's 4 day total. Looks like 52-53 million now for 4 days. :)

Actuals tomorrow...could it be even higher?

It HAD slumps which I don't think we'll ever see again. Why? Because during the previous slumps there were only Batman & Superman films so it wasn't very diverse. Now with so many different properties which are so unlike one another people won't grow tired!

Can you here it! Ghost Rider 2 Presidents Day Weekend 2009!

Batman Begins grossed almost 2.5X its production budget, which makes it a substantial moneymaker in terms of today's business model and put it in the position where it easily earned a sequel. Ghost Rider didn't cost $ 40 million. It had a production budget of $ 120 million. To match Batman Begins in return on investment it would have to gross around $ 295-300 million worldwide.

Estimates are updated thru Monday. Updates below. #'s include 15.5 million from overseas. It is # 1 on the Presidents Day 4-Day Opening Weekends, and # 1 on the Presidents Day 4-Day Holiday weekends. Largest opening weekends in 2007, 3rd in Domestic Grosses 2007

51.5 over 4 days estimate. Fri & Sat revised down a bit and Sun revised up. Nice nice nice.

As I said...easily beat Daredevil. Did what Daredevil took 4 days to do...in 3 days and by breaking 50 million was closer to 60 million than 40 million. :)

A 67 million WW 4 day, holidayopening is fantastic. Once again, critics would not know a good, fun movie if it fell on them.

What about we wait for final numbers before we start saying it´s bigger than this or that? Word of mouth can make a big difference for a movie´s sucess at the BO and we haven´t seen which is the one on GR.

This movie is doing huge numbers, better than I had anticapated. My only days off are Wed & Thur so I still have not seen it yet!:cmad: I will see it by Wed. for sure.

$51.5 Million:wow:

Holy cow! Who would have thought GR would be smashing records?! Despite some stinging reviews people have gone to see the movie in numbers.

It seems a lot screenings were sold out so it looks like the succes will continue. This is good news for comic book movies in general.

It is, good to see a not so known character can be a success.

Yay! Sleeper hit folks. I said it a million times and it's nice to see it finally happening.

I guess next weekend is the biggest test now.

Oh, and screw the critics!

^ It happens quite a bit. He's just cool looking. :) Different reasons unknown characters make it big like Shrek, Ghost Rider, Indiana Jones, etc...The Marvel brand, state of the art CGI, the star, the director, etc...The marketing really helped quite a bit and the investment in updating the CGI certainly is what made this film worthwhile.

23 isn't the type of film the young males GR was skewed towards will rush at. 23 might not even be #1. GR might do it again and pull in 20+ million or so over 3 days.
