I am so happy it did well, and broke records.

I didn't read reviews 'cause I liked it and that's all that matters.

Explaining what facts? If you are so confident about what you believe then could you explain why theatrical sequels weren't made for the following films after favorable foreign and worldwide grosses? Just in case you haven't done your research like I have sequels were planned for all of these films. Also, Batman Begins and The Incredible Hulk(2008) are not sequels because the movies have nothing to do with the storylines of Hulk/Batman and Robin.

Lost in space Budget(80mil) worldwide gross(136mil)

The Punisher Budget(33mil) worldwide gross(54mil)

Starship Troopers had a sequel that went directly to video so it doesn't count.

Most of those films made money but were horrible with a few exceptions and the fan reactions afterword weren't good. Men In Black 2 was horrible as was Elektra. It doesn't matter that MIB2 made money cause it was sooooooooooooooo bad not only to critics but almost nobody liked that film. They were sucked in by the brand name from the first film being so good. They are making Jurassic Park 4, Punisher 2. Hulk is getting a makeover because they made the wrong film to maximize the box office, Starship Troopers got 2 sequels but they didn't want to risk the money in theatres again, LXG B & R, Van Helsing & Constantine....give me a break. Trash.

I think the exact same thing might be said about Ghost Rider very soon. I'm glad GR is making money because I want to see a sequel done right this time but the reaction has been overwhelmingly negative.

By the way, Elektra was the sequel to Daredevil. It was just another case of a bad script given to a good character.

Incredible Hulk and Punisher 2 will be refreshing and successful continuations of supremely good characters.

You just helped me prove my point with this commentary. Of course one of the reasons sequels weren't made for these films is because they were horrible. Most of them were made by hack writers, directors, and the end result was a complete alienation of the fans of these comic and novel to film adaptations. The very same thing can be said about GR. Regardless of how much money it makes if the comic book fans get angry then the probability of a sequel decreases dramatically. Since this movie has gotten horrible reviews from most critics Marvel will reconsider continuing this story.

I've been hearing about a Jurassic Park 4 and Punisher 2 for years. I've also been hearing about an Indiana Jones 4, Tron 2, and Ghostbusters 3 since the late 90s.:oldrazz: I would like to see something definitive in regards to these projects for a change.

^ Who cares if they take years if they're still made. Men in Black 3 is supposedly in early early stages at Sony. Part 2 was a joke. JP4 is happening, Punsiher 2 is being written right now by Stuart Beattie, Indy 4 has a late May release date in 08 and they start filming pretty soon, Tron 2 and GB3...development hell as far as I know. Hell if Charlies Angels got a sequel...anything can. LOL

Advanced Dark, I've also been tracking the percentage ratings on the review board and they have NEVER changed once- it all balances out to the same percent for the 7-10 range even with more reviews floating into these forums. 53% for the 7-10 range, fluctuates- but that's it's constant.

Far from "widely hated" as many of those who hated it would like others to think. The film is NOT widely hated. Some loved it, others hated it... but alot voted 'average'- not one or the other. 7-10, with strongest percentiles being 7 and 8.

Weekend actuals are up. Domestic #'s thru Feb. 19th. Overseas #'s thru Feb. 18th. Updates below.

Im so glad GR is doing great. And wait for SM3 and FF2....They will be HUGE.
Marvel comics rock!!!!

As I stated earlier in the thread, observation of which films get fast tracked sequels reveals that a return of about 2.4 or 2.5X production budget is the line which pretty much guarantees a quick sequel. The lower a film falls below that level of return the dicier its chances of a sequel become.

Let's take FF. It made 56 opening weekend. Shortly after it's opening Avi anounced it would get a sequel. Some films get a sequel based on it's opening #'s. Even with the huge drop off 2nd week, FF still got a sequel. I do not think bottom line #'s figure in the equation as much as you think. SR for example. Go with your 2.5 X's budget. 260 million x 2.5 = 650 million. No way, yet it is getting a sequel rather soon.

Avi said to me last week, with regards to getting a sequel, that "Well see after this weekend"... so I think it's pretty much in the bag that a sequel is coming.

DOES anyone know how much Daredevil made on tues, wed, & thur after it's opening weekend. I can't access that info on mojo as I'm not a premiere member. This way we can see how it's holding up during the week. I know DD did 18 million and stayed #1 in it's second week but I think we'll be 20-23 for sure maybe more. Depends on 23.

Just because sequels are announced in the flush of a big opening weekend doesn't mean that they actually happen. When Hulk opened with over $ 60 mil Universal stated that they would make a sequel, but when the final numbers rolled in they decided not to and instead let the rights eventually revert back to Marvel.

FF easily earned its sequel by grossing 3.3X its production budget. It was a major moneymaker. Lots of profit there.

I mentioned SR and Hellboy 2 as exceptions earlier as well. The 2.4/2.5X sequel level generally holds true, but every rule has its exceptions, and when you have properties that key players work their butts off to save (as Del Toro did with Hellboy 2) or where the studio has a lot of blood, sweat, and tears invested in a franchise as a whole (as Warners does with Superman) then you can get sequels made even when the returns wouldn't usually point in that direction. Still, I'm not 100% convinced that Singer's Superman sequel will actually happen.

Well, from Tuesday thru Sunday it did $ 24,438,404. for a total of $ 69,471,858. after it's 2nd weekend. So GR has to do $ 17,448,950 over the next 6 days to equal DD's 10 day totals.

Another 2.6 million for Ghost Rider on Tuesday per showbiz data.

NOW OVER 70 MILLION WORLDWIDE. :)

DD made 2.8 million on the same day but much less on Monday and the weekend probably because of the huge snowstorm on the East Coast. Wed it dropped at 1.8-1.9 range.

Bottom line is DD had $ 69.4 million domestic after 10 days. GR will break that easily. :cwink: GR would have to average less then 3 million a day for next 6 days, not to beat it.

I realize that I want it to hit 120 million not 103 million.

A better example would be the Resident Evil franchise. The last movie was completely awful and even made most expert's worst of the year lists. Yet, one of the trailers attached to Ghost Rider was Resident Evil: Extinction coming soon to a theatre near you.

It has 16 days till 300 opens. Average of 3 million per day would give it another 48 million. That would put it a tad below DD #'s. So It should beat DD, unless something unforseen happens.
