I wouldn't go to see it expecting realism if I were you. You don't have to watch tv to see the clips/trailers etc its all online.

I know, I just never search out that stuff.

For instance, I didnt like Ghost Rider...but it was cool when he drove up that building. I hadnt seen that scene before so I think that getting to see it for the first time, not expecting it...made it a cooler scene for me. Kinda like how a comedy would be funnier if you hasnt seen the commercials giving away all the good gags.

Sites like www.boxofficereport.com and www.boxofficeguru.com are predicting a drop between 55% and 58% this weekend for Ghost Rider. It´s not terrible legs, given the movie´s strong opening and production budget, but it´s far from a Batman Begins kind of staying power. It´s a bit worse than average. A final domestic BO around 110m, not exceptional but enough to warrant a sequel, is a good bet.

Don't be so sure:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=daredevil.htm

If that's the case Ghost Rider will only end up making a little more than Daredevil, but it cost a good deal more to make.

Well, 110m IS a little more than Daredevil. Actually, DD was a verý profitable movie for the studio, at first they didn´t want to do the sequel cuz Ben Affleck wasn´t interested, and they mistakingly thought he was a big part of the equation at the time, then they decided to do Elektra as the sequel to DD cuz Jen Garner was available and again they made the mistake to think she was a big part of the equation as well. And GR seems to be doing well overseas, which DD didn´t. If it makes 110m/120m domestic and a similar number overseas, a sequel may get in the works.

You do make some good points, we'll know more next week when we see what kind of legs this thing has.

Well lets see. Friday thru Sunday it made $ 45.4 million. A 58 % drop would be $ 19 million next weekend. Right now that would put it at $ 73.6 million domestic, not counting Wed. and Thurs. That would put it ahead of DD for the same 10 days. DD made $ 69.4 million after 10 days. DD had a 55.1 % drop 2nd weekend.

Ghost Rider pulled back ahead of Daredevils #'s on the same day. Yesterday was the only day it was behind and that's likely due to the storm factor that hit on the weekend back when DD was released.

Ok guys Week 2 is coming up: Ghost Rider vs 23

Projection Booth: Can Carrey's '23' Out-Spook Cage's 'Ghost Rider'?
Superhero flick broke records last weekend, but horror/thriller brings big competition.

By Josh Horowitz

Just because Nicolas Cage's "Ghost Rider" decimated the competition the film's first week out (earning a record-breaking $51.5 million over the holiday) doesn't mean this coming weekend is going to be a walk in the park for the newest superhero on the movie scene. At least, that's what a few inept Reno cops and Jim Carrey would like to think.

Jim Carrey isn't going to be doing Cage any favors by opening "The Number 23" this weekend. While films out of Carrey's comedic comfort zone are pretty hit and miss — for every "Truman Show" there's a "Majestic" — the fact that this one is in the horror/thriller genre might bring in an audience all its own, and one not lamenting the fact that Carrey isn't making funny faces.

If comedy is what you're in the mood for though, fear not: The team behind "Reno 911! Miami" has you covered. Thus far, the most clueless cops to hit the screen since Steve Guttenberg strapped on his holster have been relegated to cult status thanks to their Comedy Central show. This weekend they're looking to widen their appeal with a big-screen adventure all their own. Look for a bunch of fun celebrity cameos in this one. One hint: There's an appearance by a former wrestler whose name rhymes with the Mock (see "Paul Rudd, 'A Lot Of Nudity': Tales From Set Of 'Reno 911!: Miami' ").

f a family outing is in your future this weekend, you'll probably want to set your sights on "The Astronaut Farmer." Billy Bob Thornton left his potty mouth in his old Santa costume at home for this one. Here he's a farmer with big dreams and an even bigger rocket in the barn. It's heartwarming, "Field of Dreams" kind of stuff.

The Predictions: It's a rare treat for the Projection Booth to be visited by a star of one of the films that's actually opening that very week, but leave it to Mr. Fantastic himself to take the gamble. Ioan Gruffudd, star of this summer's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and this week's "Amazing Grace" (opening in limited release), stopped by the Booth to make a fearless prediction. And never let it be said this man wasn't humble — he didn't even pick his own movie to come in #1. But it's safe to say Gruffudd's little summer flick will be everybody's pick come June 15.

What will be #1? How much will it rake in?
Larry Carroll, MTV News writer: "Ghost Rider" ($25 million)
"Normally I'd be inclined to put my money on a Jim Carrey movie, but I just don't feel like people are dying to see 'The Number 23' as much as his usual fare. Nicolas Cage and 'Ghost Rider' will drive all over the competition this weekend, and hopefully convince Marvel to make a sequel with a darker director like Rob Zombie or David Gordon Green. If it makes $25 million, that should still be plenty."

Josh Horowitz, MTV Movies editor: "The Number 23" ($25 million)
"It's tough for me to bet against a film that set records its opening weekend, but something tells me 'Ghost Rider' is going to take a rather steep plunge in its second week out. The word of mouth is mixed at best. Meanwhile, everywhere I look Jim Carrey is spooking me out, hyping his new flick. Maybe I'm easily swayed, but I say 'The Number 23' will just edge out Nic Cage's superhero flick."

Ioan Gruffudd, star of "Amazing Grace": "Ghost Rider" ($30 million)
"I think 'Ghost Rider' might be #1 because of the comic book audience. I am praising them highly, because I will be relying on them come June the 15th to make 'Fantastic Four' huge. I've just got a feeling 'Ghost Rider' might win the week again ... maybe 'Ghost Rider' #1, 'Amazing Grace' #2, and 'Number 23' third. 'Ghost Rider' might make $30 million."

Check out everything we've got on "Ghost Rider," "The Number 23" and "Reno 911!: Miami."

I can see GR pulling 20 to 25 this weekend. 25 to 30 ? that's a bit of a stretch for me, but who knows. Never try to outguess the public. 25 would be less then a 50 % drop, against a holiday weekend, that would be fantastic. 22.5 would be 50 %.

I have not seen much advertisement for Ghost Rider, which is understandable.I think these numbers are less than some thought..or hoped.

New Line's counting on Jim Carrey to draw auds to psychological thriller ``The Number 23.''
webo_astronautfarmer.jpg

Warner Bros. looks to reap B.O. by warming hearts with ``The Astronaut Farmer,'' starring Billy Bob Thornton.

Can "The Number 23" beat "Reno 911!: Miami" to emerge as No. 1 this weekend?

B.O. could be close for the two.
For New Line, the question is whether auds will turn out to see funnyman Jim Carrey in the psychological thriller "23." Pic is tracking to hit up to $20 million, with keen interest from women under 25 and men over that age.
Meanwhile, Fox's "Reno" seems to have dibs on the young male demo.
The studio has been on a roll with comedies lately: It still has a hit in "Night at the Museum," and it opened "Epic Movie," a slapsticky, poorly reviewed spoof, at No. 1 a few weekends ago.
"Reno," the bigscreen adaptation of the Comedy Central skein, will pull into 2,703 precincts, while "23" shoots for 2,759 as the frame's widest new rollouts.
Also bowing will be Warner Bros.' inspirational heartland drama "The Astronaut Farmer," which will open on 2,155. "Farmer," starring Billy Bob Thornton as a rancher keen on launching himself into space via a self-built rocket, is rated PG, perhaps giving it some fuel with family auds.
"The Number 23" -- in which Carrey stars as a man whose life is mysteriously overcome by a creepy novel -- and "Cops" spoof "911" are both rated R.
Standing in the way of the newcomers will be "Ghost Rider," the Nicolas Cage starrer that burned up the B.O. last frame. Even if the pic drops 55% from last weekend's biz, it should still be in the hunt at the top of the charts.
Other holdovers with room to roam at the B.O. include Disney and Walden's "Bridge to Terabithia," DreamWorks' "Norbit," Warner Bros.' "Music and Lyrics," Universal's "Breach" and Lionsgate's "Daddy's Little Girls."
Oscarcast on Sunday could, of course, corral attention away from the bigscreens as movie fans tune in to the tube.
Opening as more-limited releases will be Lionsgate horror pic "The Abandoned," Samuel Goldwyn and Roadside Attractions' "Amazing Grace," Picturehouse's "Starter for 10," the Yari Group's "Gray Matters" and ThinkFilm's "Glastonbury."
On the foreign front, "Ghost Rider" looks likely to remain the leading film for a second straight weekend as it adds 1,000 playdates and expands into Austria, Belgium, France and Germany. Pic had cumed $21.5 million internationally and $78 million worldwide as of Wednesday.
Fox's "Museum" should stay solid internationally after dominating the foreign box office for the past two months. With cumes of $256 million overseas and $239 million domestically, the laffer's set to become the 46th pic to generate half a billion dollars in worldwide box office.
Universal's Brit comedy spoof "Hot Fuzz" will continue to be a significant player in the U.K., where its first-week total has hit $15.5 million. And local French thriller "Taxi 4," which ran up $14 million in its first week, should remain formidable on home turf in its second week.
Studios are also keeping Oscar contenders active. Paramount's moving "Dreamgirls," which has topped $21 million overseas, into Holland and South Korea; Fox is expanding "Notes on a Scandal" into Germany, Italy and Mexico and taking "The Last King of Scotland" into Spain; and Warner Bros. is widening "Letters From Iwo Jima" into Australia, France, Germany and the U.K.
"Letters" has performed best by far in Japan, with $42 million. Domestic gross is $12 million; Brazil, Italy and Spain combined for about $760,000 from 156 in openings last weekend.
"The Pursuit of Happyness," with nearly $107 million overseas, and "Blood Diamond," with $80 million outside the U.S., will remain players this weekend as they take advantage of respective Oscar noms for Will Smith and Leonard DiCaprio. Other notable foreign market openings include "The Good Shepherd" in the U.K., "Music and Lyrics" in Italy, "The Number 23" in the U.K. and "Norbit" in Australia.
</H1>
78 million Worldwide and counting. By the end of the weekend we can add a minimum of 35-40 million worldwide not counting Thursday's #'s. So approaching 150 million WW real damn quick and will be passing DD's WW total the following week with ease as it opens in Japan.

Added those #'s to my figures. All totals updated thru Wednesday.

Guru predicts 20 million.

Last weekend, Nicolas Cage enjoyed a record-breaking Presidents' Day opening with Ghost Rider which grabbed $45.4M over the three-day portion of its holiday bow. The Marvel super hero flick opened much like 2003's Daredevil which launched on the same frame and suffered a 55% drop on the sophomore session. Ghost Rider should see similar results as it also attracted much of its fan base last weekend and is facing the same level of competition that the Ben Affleck actioner saw in its second attack. Look for Ghost Rider to burn up another $20M which would lift its ten-day tally to $79M.

Looking at everything again...I think it'll be 22-23
25 possible
30 is really really stretching it and that would be simply amazing. IMO.

Also it's adding 2 million a weekday overseas at least from Mon-Wed it is. So if the same holds true it'll be up to 23.5 million before the weekend. I can't wait till this time next week. Then Zodiak comes out which looks pretty cool but again...the kids won't be running to Zodiak but imagine Ghost Rider will lose it's #1 spot that weekend at the lastest.

I agree. It stays # 1 this weekend. Theater count this week. Up, down, or same ? I think it will get a bump up.

Ghost Rider is the type of film that is critic proof...as is the normal Jim Carrey comedy. However I don't think Carrey's 23 film will be critic proof. It's not the kind of film that will be immune and doesn't have the raving Marvel fans to support it or pump it up.

Now I personally never look at reviews to watch movies I wanna watch...if I like the trailers or the topic I'll watch it. But it's still amusing to look at some of these 23 reviews. Yeah I know GR god bad reviews too but does anyone think 23 is critic proof like that??? These are hilarious too. :)

Movie Reviews: 23

Greater than the terror that Jim Carrey's character...feels in the course of The Number 23 may have been that which Carrey and his castmates felt midway through production as the glowering awfulness of this project began to dawn on them.

"There are probably at least 23 reasons why this thriller doesn't work."

It's fair to wonder what kind of numbers drive him to set sail with sub-standard ships captained by deficient fools.

It's kind of amusing to watch Joel Schumacher trying to be David Fincher or David Lynch and failing miserably due to the weak material.

They could have saved time and money and simply given paying customers cards reading, 'You have a small penis,' or 'Those pants make you look fat.' Surely that's an easier and more cost effective way to insult the audience.

One of the many mysteries about the number 23 is why Jim Carrey and director Joel Schumacher thought audiences would share their fascination over the mysteries about the number 23.

No one wants to watch a by-the-numbers hack job -- even if the movie is called The Number 23.

There are at least 23 reasons to avoid this snoozer of a stinker. ... Our audience started laughing in derision and yelling at the screen.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/click...tic=columns&sortby=default&page=6&rid=1600551
A big fat zero...an exhaustingly busy cinematic puzzle, this year's Butterfly Effect--but even less entertaining.

There's a mess of things wrong with this suspense thriller. Start with the fact that it's neither suspenseful nor thrilling.

Carrey's unconvincing performance here turns it into his funniest film in years.

It's a 95-minute movie that takes 20 minutes to explain its "shocking premise." That's not a good ratio, it's kind of like a stripper agreeing to do a $5 lap dance to "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Again I know GR got bad reviews too but these are hilarious quotes.

I got to see Reno 911! Miami Wed. any fans of the show will love the movie too. Don't know how well it will do at the B.O. though. Most of the audience I saw it with were mostly big fans. Only 2 people hadn't seen the show befor. One of which was sitting in front of me. He thought it was going to be like Police Academy lol. And it took him 2 minutes to name that. He said befor the movie, "This ain't nothing but a God#$@!.......(everyone laughs then 2 mins. later) A Police Academy." He seemed to like the movie and only didn't like one of my favorite characters Terry. He actually yelled out, "Not funny!" while everyone else laughed. That dude also took away any chance of me or my friend getting one of the giveaways by yelling out at the guy giving away the prizes. He give him something to shut him up and never came back to our area.:csad: They had hats, badges, t-shirts, and binoculars to giveaway. Anyone that sees it there are 3 small extra scenes after all the credits. I love when movies do this. I was hoping Ghost Rider would have something at the end like DD. How cool would it have been to see Blackheart in comic book form for like 2 seconds.

AD, those quote were hilarious. I still wanna see the movie (on DVD) and all but, man, those were funny.

I think it has potential for great endurance. The problem is that Sony's Marketing Machine has pretty much stalled completely. They've even removed alot of billboard ads here in Los Angeles. It's very odd for Sony who's typical strategy is to capitalize on their "#1 box office" status.

I think the film will still do well in it's second week. I'll be shocked if 23 outgrosses it. People typically hate Jim Carrey in dramatic roles.

Yeah Reno911 looks funny but I can wait for DVD on that one. Why bother seeing that on the big screen.

They could have saved time and money and simply given paying customers cards reading, 'You have a small penis,' or 'Those pants make you look fat.' Surely that's an easier and more cost effective way to insult the audience.

I love that comment. :oldrazz: We should take that comment over to the silver nut sack thread in the FF boards.

Yeah Reno911 looks funny but I can wait for DVD on that one. Why bother seeing that on the big screen.
I love comedies but thats true seeing them on the big screen doesn't really add anything to them. I do hope it makes some money though, and hopefully they didn't let all the big fans see it for free lol.

According to Mojo, GR is getting a 1 theater bump. LOL. But better then a drop.
