I've been doing my job to spread word of mouth as to how good this film is, and it seems to be working on my end. It's a fun film, and enjoyable. Great action wrapped around a decent story, and the film seems to resonate with the fans.

The biggest problem with Feb releases are the weekday totals. This is a film for younger people as they comprise the bulk of the audience, and a large portion of them are in school Mon-Fri. In the Summer that's not the case so the weekday totals are higher. They needed this timeframe to build up Ghost Rider's awareness. Now if they go for a Summer release...it just might work...or a winter Holiday releaes to "heat" things up.

Hey Blades....I'm think perhaps if Sony got started on the planning portion of the movie now...they could shoot for a Halloween-ish type launch of Ghost Rider for 2008, but that would be a very aggressive plan, and the logistics of it might be a bit too tough.

I hope Ghost Rider is enjoying its time before 300 comes out. It is also possible that Wild Hogs might give Ghost Rider a hard time. That looks like a fun family movie & Wild Hogs definitely has a cast that is very well known.

True.I also think that viewers had a different idea of the movie, and some were turned off by what they saw.Its like expecting something, and getting something different in return.I think its average.

Yeah, maybe they didn´t think a movie about a guy who sells his soul to the devil and is cursed for life was perfect for camp and one-liners all the time...

Ghost Rider Up to $118 Million Worldwide

Source: Variety
February 26, 2007

According to Variety, Ghost Rider rolled to a second straight international victory, easily topping a moderate weekend at the foreign box office with $16.1 million at 3,000 playdates in 40 markets.

Amid respectable openings and holdovers and a lack of competing action fare, Sony's "Rider" grossed nearly the combined total of the closest contenders, Fox's Night at the Museum and Universal's Hot Fuzz.

Ghost Rider made the biggest splash with launches in France, with $3 million at 426 through local distributor SND, and in Germany, with a first-place $2.2 million at 363. The second weekend saw declines of 51% in Spain to $1.5 million at 417 -- still enough for first -- along with 38% in Mexico to $1.3 million at 403 and 46% in Australia to $1 million at 208.

The film also opened in first place in India with $820,000 at 250 for the 12th biggest launch in that market for a Hollywood movie. The Nicolas Cage starrer has lived up to expectations internationally, earning $39.4 million overseas and $118 million worldwide with openings coming next weekend in Japan and the U.K.

Oh ok, well just in case somebody might have missed it...you know...considering this topic is 24 pages long. LOL

Anyways, awesome news. Ghost Rider literally lifted Hollywood from it's slump. It needs to win some awards for that at least.

I care more about the quality of a film than its box office performance. However, it does bring a smile to my face to see Ghost Rider doing so well. There is no way it would have done such great business had it been released in the Summer. Whoever made the decision to move it to the end of Feb was very shrewd.

:yay:

The drop for the movie is nothing special one way or another. I expect another 50 percent drop next weekend or something close to it. Doesn't matter much though the movie is already making more than Sony expected I bet.

The only reason I care about the box office gross is because I want to see a sequel....and these numbers are promising to say the least. :O

This could easily make over 200 MIL total gross with DVD, rental sales, merchandising, etc.

It needs 21.3 million over next 7 days to reach it. I am guessing about 8 million Monday thru Thursday, that would leave 13.3 million Friday thru Sunday. It's possible. It will be close. If not by Monday, then deff by the time Mondays, and mabey Tuesdays totals are figured in.

It's just a guess. I'm lousy at this box office stuff.;)
Let´s not get overly excited. The result is just alright, and none of these new movies generated much interest anyway. Next weekend with Zodiac is a different story.
Zodiac is next weekend? Didn't know that.Well that will certainly change things....
118 Million Worldwide!!!

Matched it's budget.

Now do it again! :)

Ghost Rider #1 again...OVERSEAS/International!!!

Nice!

A 56% drop, acceptable but still steep. It will break through 100m, but 120m is a bit of a long shot.

56% drop is NOT steep for a big budget comic book film opening this time of year. All the kids are in school not to mention the comic book fan rush first weekend with multiple views over a Holiday. Followed by a non-holiday weekend. It's average drop. Next week just drop off much less. Closer to 40% then 60% even with the competition of Wild Hogs and Zodiak.

Actually most kids weren't in school this past week, at least not here in NY. It was the mid-winter's recess, Presidents Week.

Ghost Rider at it's second week is still number one. That the good news. The bad news is that it's a 20 mil. Even that it's still at number one it's still looked at as a bomb. Why? Well it went down close to 57%. Just under 23. And this is not good news for the movie industry as well. All movies are down by large number making every movie that started a bomb including Ghost Rider and it's large drop in numbers. So this week Ghost Rider and the hole movie industry a train wreck for this week.

Weekend actuals are in. Updates below. Overseas #'s thru Feb. 25th. 20 million. Down 55.8%

'Ghost Rider' Stays in the Saddle

Ghost Rider cooled but held the top spot as expected, The Number 23 added up to a relatively fair debut, and not much else transpired over a typically sedate final February weekend. After last weekend's bounty, overall business was down three percent from the same frame last year when Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion opened in first.

Lassoing $20.1 million, Ghost Rider burned off 56 percent, which was in line with the past two President's Day comic book adaptations, Daredevil and Constantine, in their second weekends. With $79 million in ten days, Ghost Rider whipped past Constantine as the highest-grossing hell-themed comic movie.

Anyone want to speculate on theater count this upcomming week ? Up ? Down ? Same ?

^^ Carp better check out the FF Heroes clip early tomorrow morning.

It was great.

I imagine they expected a complete and utter bomb.

I think they are counting their blessings that they made back any money with this movie. Count on Universal/Paramount/Fox taking the sloppy seconds on this franchise. Just don't see SONY trying to "gamble" their efforts for a sequel.

I think the chance for Sony to greenlight a fast tracked big budget sequel rests with foreign box office. Domestic box office is highly likely to be no less than $ 110 million and no more than $ 120 million. If foreign box office simply just about matches domestic that would lead to a worldwide gross of $ 220-240 million, which would be a mediocre rate of return (a couple of steps behind Daredevil, Constantine and LXG and a couple of steps ahead of Hulk) that would certainly turn a profit but not necessarily one big enough for Sony to greenlight a sequel, especially one with a bigger budget.

Still, there are a couple of other sequel options. Sony might opt to make a sequel at a lower budget level or they might decide against a sequel entirely and leave it to Marvel to self-finance another GR film at some point down the line.

For Sony to take the leap and make another big budget GR film with Nic Cage you'd pobably have to see the foreign gross be good enough to push the worldwide number up to the $ 270-280 million range. It would be unusual for a comic book film to make more in foreign than in domestic, but not unprecedented, and GR may have a shot at doing so since it's a supernatural actioner rather than a costumed superhero film.

Right now I see a sequel iffy at best. It has had Its time in the sun, now we will see where it ends up.

GR did very well in india considering SONY is a huge company with its highly popular television network where they promoted it extremely well.

$800000+ million in 3 days is just awesome because none of the X-men and the first F4 movie made that much in 3 days. X2 had a total boxoffice of GR' opening weekend in india.

F4 did $500000+ in india total which is a HIT but not super hit or blockbuster.
