Ant-Man Box Office Predictions - Part 1

There's absolutely no reason as to why F4 would ever be released in China theatrically...and if it did it would certainly bomb. That's one movie China would not bother trying to save.

They'd crash in China, just like the FF crashed in China at the end of Rise of the Silver Surfer. :o

@ChinaBoxOffice: #ChinaBoxOffice @AntMan earned est $5.4M on Friday. China's 8-day total stands at $65.2M.

Does that give us a better read on what we can expect this weekend? Do Saturdays and Sundays tend to be a certain percentage of the Friday take? Do we know the ratios from last weekend? Other historical ratios?

Beats me. The BOT guys think Saturday and Sunday holds versus last week will be about 50%, which would be good. Might get to $80 million in China by the end of the weekend if that happens but we'll see.

^If so then it's WW total should be in the $490m range by weekend's end. That'd push it passed San Andreas for the #9 spot WW for 2015.

Looks likely based on early pre sales estimates. Including Friday it looks like Ant-Man is headed to a $20 million-plus second weekend. That would put it on course to crack $500 million WW by next Friday.

Not bad at all. I can see marvel looking through their list of characters to see who next they can turn into a super star. Hope black panther, doc strange, marvel and inhumans can hit the same high notes.

@ChinaBoxOffice: #ChinaBoxOffice @AntMan earned est. $9.7M on Saturday. China's total stands at $74.8M.

I have little doubt that they can or do even better.

#ChinaBoxOffice @AntMan earned est. $22.3M this weekend (-47%) lifting its 10-day cume to $82.2M

Nice. WW total now $493.8 million. Also, domestic chugged past the $179 million mark per bo.com estimates. Domestic weekend was $230k so I'd say it's finally hit the dollar theaters.

Almost at the half billion mark

If you told me 10 years ago that Cap, Thor and ANT-MAN would have movies that did better than Wolverine, I would not have believed it.

I can hardly believe an ANT-MAN film made half a billion dollars!

I could have accepted Thor and Captain America, those are A-list heroes in the comics. But Ant-man? The fact that Ant-man outgrossed every Wolverine movie is undeniably impressive.

It's simple to say, but not simple to do. If they are good movies, people will go see them. I would have predicted 500M+ for AM, but it wasn't on the survey :csad:

I shot the moon and went for 600M.

I had picked 401M-500M, and I felt I was being optimistic.

Wow, I never really thought of that. Doing better than a character that is super popular and had already been in a few movies is quite an accomplishment. So happy that Ant Man did so well, got tired reading comments from a certain group who couldn't move on.

Can't wait for the bluray.

Monday China estimate is around $2.3 million so WW up to about $496 million. Wednesday looking like the day.

So did I.

Tuesday estimate about the same as Monday so now at $498+ million.

So by this time tomorrow it'll be the 9th MCU film to earn at least half a billion $ and the 16th movie based on Marvel comics to do so.
