Box Office predictions thread-2007 Edition

You could have said the same thing about Shrek 2 as you are saying about Shrek 3, yet that movie is 3rd in domestic box office for all time. What you think is irrelevant as all the other millions of people who want to see this movie, the same ones who lined up in droves for the 1st and 2nd ones, do care.

Wow, good comeback, I really haven't heard that one before. I am defeding its box-office potential, as this is a box-office potential thread right? Tell me if I am wrong, please, otherwise don't bring this up again, it's proving tedious.

The reality is that Shrek 3 probably isn't going to be the blockbuster you're making it out to be. Mainly because it has a huge blockbuster movie (with a more recent sequel) also targeted at families coming out the week after. Not to mention the poor DVD sales* for Shrek 2 may mean that people weren't as happy with the film as the box office suggested they were.

And plus all the flooding of CGI animated movies will have afeect on it. this is back then when CGI animated movies didn't come out much. now a new one almost every month comes out. and people can get burnted out on them.

also i saw shrek 2 being sold on dvd at walmart only after a few months of release.

Does anybody have DVD sales to compare to Shrek 2's? I'd be interested in seeing if the studio's expectations weren't met and unrealistic, but I can't see how a movie that lasted many months in the theaters making 441 million dollars wasn't a crowd favorite as box-office longevity and gross like that can only mean repeated viewings and good word of mouth.

With two cg animated movies so far this year make 200 million or more in box-office tells me this is incorrect, and even in Shrek 2's year it made 180 million more than it's nearest competitor(The Incredibles), it's just in another league, so comparing it to every other cg animated film is bogus.

Uhm . . how about Ice Age 2 and Cars . .

The genre does as well, or better as most other genres of films.

I'm sure FF2 will do just fine. i think it might surpise a few people. not saying its gonna be number one. but it will make more than the first.

I think Shrek has one advantage when it comes to become the king of worldwide box office next year. Unlike Spider-Man and POTC it will be not be released simultaneously everywhere (or at least almost everywhere). So in many countries (UK for example) it will not face the competition from these two movies

My god you people amazing me, the reason Spidey and POTC have hype is because Spidey 3 JUST released a teaser trailer and POTC 2 was JUST released.

These movies are a year from being released in theaters, hype now means absolutely NOTHING, the only hype that is needed is months before the release, not a year, and if you think that Shrek 3 will continue to be un-hyped you are living outside of reality in some suburb of absurdity.

Are you serious? Hype right now mean a whole lot. Hype a whole year before a film is released helps you to lock in more audience.
You get some hyped for a movie and they'll follow news about it up until release date.
