Yeah, I don't know how people say it's a happy ending. It's bittersweet, if even that.

Let's look at not only what dark_b said, and add:

~His daughter will never grow up to know her father, and when she does find out, she'll live with the fact that her father was a drug kingpin

~Marie will (more than likely) forever hate him

~Jesse is screwed up in the head, seriously. Everything that has happened to him, I have zero doubt that he'll ever get over this, at least completely.

i rewatched the finale. and holly s...

Jack is very angry and insulted whe nWalt tells him that he is Jesse's partner. after Jack and the nazis saw the video of Jesse explaining everything they got angry. i think after that video they started torturing him out of joy.they tortured him like an animal. they enjoyed because to them he was a weak rat. plus they could use him for cooking.
it was smart from Gilligan that he didnt show how bad it got for Jesse . because we would feel to sorry for him. i do feel sorry for him. but not a lot.

remember how Andrea and Jesse got together? it was not a love story. he didnt saw her on the street and they smiled at each other. he stole the meth from the lab. and he decided to sell it at Narcotics Anonymous. thats very evil. its not all Walt's fault. a lot of bad karma for Jesse. but thats why the ending is so good. there are no good and bad guys. life is complicated

Can anyone tell me why Walt left the watch on top of the phone booth?
It was a continuity issue they ran into. Walt was wearing the watch when they first filmed that scene not knowing where it was going. (Absolutely crazy by the way) By the time they got to filming the rest they realized they'd have to have him leave it somewhere.
On Talking Bad, Vince said he wanted it to be some deep meaning, but fessed up. Lol

The Walt/Skyler scene was great. "I did it for myself. I liked it. I was good at it. It made me feel alive.”

The truth came out. Finally. No more of the "doing it for family" nonsense.

Amazing finale. I'm now torn between this one and The Shield as my favorite series finale.

Devin Faraci sums things up pretty well:

I actually agree with Devin?? What??? :wow:

But seriously, he really nailed it with his assessment. It would've felt too Lindelofy or too much like the finale of say, Prison Break where they tried to fit way too many twists and turns in the finale than it needed. Glad Breaking Bad did not go that route at all.

5 seasons lying to himself, saying that it was all for his family because he was not ready to face the reality that he wanted to feel alive, that he enjoyed every moment of it. It was never about Skyler or Walter JR. or Holly or anyone else for that matter, it was about him and everything he fought for. His pride. His legacy.

And then he dies, saving Jesse. Nothing more than Jesse.

That song Line of Fire by Junip used for the finale promo works quite well considering the M60 set up.

I think after the last several episodes, there really was no other big twist or shocking event that would have felt appropriate. All of these characters have been put through the ringer again and again and it was time they got a proper ending. I HATE it when movies and tv shows do an "imagine your own ending" kind of ending. To me, thos eendings show that the writers really had no idea themselves how to end the story and just tell the audience "well...uh...what do YOU think?". Give us closure, put a cap on the story. That's why I appreciate endings like this and the Shield.

I'm so glad the reaction to the finale is more level headed here. I'm running into people so pissed there wasn't some big revelation of uber twist after uber twist. I've been saying it all season to my wife "I don't think the last episode needs to have some crazy twists. It wouldn't work." Man, am I glad Vince had the foresight to know the best way to go was the straightforward way. This wasn't about Walt sneaking around, trying to save his life or get out of a jam. This was about Walt setting things right for himself and getting the job done, so-to-speak.
This last episode was about emotion and finality, not "How many more "HOLY S**T" moments we can give the audience in the last minute.

Why were so many people expecting so many twist and turns, especially considering everything the show has done? And, it would be follow in the footsteps of shows like Prison Break where the finale tried to fit in too many twists and turns to the point were it just feels contrived.

It's funny, the finale did the opposite of what the series could be seen as being known for in regards to twists, cliffhangers, drastic plot changes etc. And it's all the better for it.

I watches a re-run of Felina again, even better the second time. Perfect and unapologetic, just as Bryan put it.

On the contrary, it was indeed about his family until he became drunk with power. He had no interest at all in going on that ride along until his diagnosis and he realized he needed a way to make money fast.

Also, he did end up leaving his family way more than his original goal of $737,000. They are now set for life. It's true that he ended up unnecessarily hurting a lot of people along the way, but so did almost every other character on this show. There are no angels here and neither of the "dynamic duo" should have gotten away alive.

While I wouldn't say Walter achieved a moral redemption (his ledger was far too in the red for that) he definitely reached some degree of personal peace with what he had done and who he'd become by simply accepting it.

I think related, part of the reason I accepted that Walter was super effective in the finale was that during his period of isolation he had shed some of his worst traits that were holding him back: namely his capacity for self-delusion and his arrogance.

Definitely still some pride there but tempered by the fact that he'd already had lost so badly. Probably the closest he's ever come to a Gus level of personal control.

Also, I can't believe nobody's mentioned how brilliant Walt's use of the machine gun actually was. I don't think anybody saw it coming.

Amazing end to an incredible show.

I still look at it as Ozymandias being the dark depressing end to the show, then these last two were the epilogue. It wasn't a happy ending, but it was satisfying and I'm not the ball of stress I was after Ozymandias.

It's crazy how they left no plot lines hanging.

I had a feeling he'd use something for it, but not anything as amazing as that.

Jesse finally got his robot.

I am so so happy that they brought Elliot and Gretchen back into the fold because I have always felt that Walt's story with them was left unfinished back in season 2. This was a brilliant way to putting a cap on their story and Walt sort of getting "revenge" on them.

Doesn't Brock have a grandma or something? I don't think she'd just let Brock go with Jesse. I mean, look at the guy. Plus, with what happened with Andrea. I think Jesse could go say goodbye to him, but for Jesse to take care of Brock, I don't think so. Jesse went and said his farewells and then hit the road. To where? I don't know. He'll move from place to place or find a small, quiet town.

I gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed.

I don't mind that the only real closure came from Walt's story. It has always been Walt's story. It is fitting that the closure belongs to Walt. My disappointment comes from how cliche Walt's ending is. Creating a greater evil in the form of Nazis, just to give him some redemption...meh. I almost feel like last week's premise was a more fitting end for Walter White. There was nothing special about him. He was just a monster and died alone in a cabin...I feel like that would've been a much more fitting ending for Walter.
I think you're spot on about the Nazis being introduced just so that there was someone unquestionably more evil than Walt. So they could say "Oh, you're NOT rooting for Walt? I guess you're rooting for the NAZIS then, huh?"

But I don't think they went too overboard on trying to redeem Walt. He offered Jesse some payback and he passed it up, but he was just satisfied in the knowledge Walt was going to die anyway, and that's kind of how I feel. The finale encouraged you to sympathize with Walt one last time but without having to forgive him, which was really the perfect compromise.

And I liked that he died around his meth lab because it just reinforces the point that that was his REAL love, not his family.

Definitely. I thought it was going to be a distraction. I never thought it'd actually be the killing device.
