Breaking Bad - Part 3

It's funny how the turning point for a lot of people seeing walt as the villain wasn't when he poisoned the innocent kid but when he shot the corrupt former cop turned drug enforcer.

I guess that's tv for you.

Brock's poisoning had Walter in a corner. He attacked out of desperation and clearly planned ahead. You could almost see why he did it after the dust settled. Almost.

Mike's death was completely in the moment and no where near as rehearsed as Brock's poisoning. It was an emotional response as much as it was reckless.

Either way, it's funny that people still side with Walt.

I still can't figure out the exact way he was able to poison Brock. He came and visited them but there was nothing obvious that I remember

Yeah that parts been left a little unresolved. I remember people being vehemently against the possibility of walt being able to poison brock due to the fact of why would brock accept anything from this strange looking old bald man he didn't know?

I thought that look Brock gave him in season 5 was kind of pike "ya I know it was you that poisoned me" kind of thing when I saw it. Probably just my over-active imagination though

I've never wanted Walter to fail until now. Even after poisoning Brock, even after being so damn smug to everyone, even after hating him more and more with each S5 episode, I never rooted for him to lose all he's built up. But after cooking with that mother****er Todd and shooting Mike, I wish that the Heisenberg reputation is destroyed, that Walter is humiliated and ashamed, and his empire is reduced to nothing.

I don't see it as being so unusual. We don't learn a whole lot or spend a whole lot of time with Brock but we've all come to know and love Mike, so it's pretty simple to me

Favorite music tracks that was used on the show?

For me it's:

DLZ - TV on the Radio
If I Had a Heart - Fever Ray
We Are Born When We Die - Apollo Sunshine
Goodbye (instrumental) - Apparat

The recent episode was solid overall, but it was the first time I felt like the writers forsook what they had developed with their characters, specifically Mike.

Mike's lack of caution in that last scene with Walt was not typical of him at all. His death didn't have as much of an impact on me because of that.

I think Mike was just frazzled from leaving his granddaughter and everything going south. He knew instantly that he ****ed up when he saw the empty holster. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. He said it himself "You're a time bomb and I don't want to be around when you go off" they really foreshadowed it and he died with dignity with his last quip

It may not've been typical but I remember back a few episodes when Hank was saying how you can't be perfect all the time and that even pros make mistakes. He ended up being right

The thing is mike never took walt seriously, thus he never saw him as a threat. I think that played a part actually in walt being so pissed at him mike never gave him any respect or his "thank yous" and walt couldn't handle that.

Part of me also wonders if mike wanted to die at that point? could he have been saved and rushed to the hospital? maybe he didn't care because he would never see his granddaughter again anyways.

Very strongly disagree. Mike sees Walt as a loose cannon, an unpredictable hothead capable of anything. Walt instrumented deaths of Gale and Gus. Mike knows he's expendable in Walt's eyes if Walt feels threatened in any way. Mike shows multiple times that he doesn't trust Walt at all (e.g. handcuffed to radiator).

Mike had a leg up on Walt with the finances and distribution, as well as his general experience from being in the business for so long. However, he must have known Walt's consent in these matters would diminish as Walt tasted more power and control. That's the one thing that drives Walt crazy - the need to control. Once Mike had no conceivable leverage over Walt's cooks, he should have doubled his caution.

I still believe the relief Walt had over Brock surviving the poisoning was genuine, but killing Gus broke the last shackle that kept Walt/Heisenberg from fully taking over.

Someone made the brilliant observation not long after S4 ended that if Brock had actually died it would have shook Walt with genuine guilt into realizing what he'd become and probably caused him to get out of the meth business altogether.

EL-P - Flyentology
Knife Party - Bonfire

That's the only two songs that I actually listen to when I'm riding around or something. I will day though, this and Sons of Anarchy have some of the best ****ing music EVER on a tv show

I agree with that observation. Successfully killing Gus and Brock surviving validated Walt's actions. There was no turning back for him at the point.

That's the truth, not just on Breaking Bad but in real life, too.

Holy ****! Mike was in season 2 of Dexter. In episode 11. He seriously needs to be in more stuff

Yeah i remember that. It was weird seeing him play on the other side of the law.
