Here we go, almost time. I can handle it!

A main complaint I understand is the final episode where Walt accomplishes so much in one episode. The majority of the things he and Jesse have to do in past seasons were always shown to have some complications, even the little things. They could never catch a break, it was always something messing up they had to clean up.
But in the end Walt manages to kill everyone of Mike's men and also expand the meth empire overseas. Three months pass and everything has been gravy.

That's just it though, after 4 and a half seasons worth of work, Walt finally gets everything he wanted. He finally lives up to Heisenberg's reputation. The tragedy is that he ends up not satisfied by this, and as soon as he gets out of the businesHank finds out who he is.
By having things go so smoothly, not only do we get a very clear sense of just how far Walt has come since day 1, but it also makes the aftermath of Walt's dreams coming true even more tragic.
That's the point though. The reason all of that stuff was just in a montage was precisely because everything went smoothly and according to plan. Like Brain Damage said, the point of all that is that Walt finally had everything he ever wanted; He finally became "King Heisenberg". The problem is that it wasn't satisfying to him. He had a mountain of money he couldn't spend and tremendous power he couldn't do anything with.

I know at one point AMC was just offering 8 and Sony wanted 18.
