Breaking Bad - Part 8

I'm not going to quote a bunch of posts, so I'm just going to say some random stuff that popped in my head while reading the new thread.

• I was on the "Walt did it" (poison Brock) train immediately. I feel pretty good about that.
• Walt is clearly in the wrong, and has been for a very long time. He is a great liar and manipulator on the show, but apparently the greatest con he ever pulled was convincing a portion of the audience that his actions are noble.
• I'm totally on the same page with Spideyfan. I would love to get a glimpse at Walt's childhood and see why he's so against charity.
• That's a cool-ass bird on the Belize thing.
• The transformation of Walter White has been incredible and an amazingly daring and unique thing that, as far as I know, has never been attempted in film or television. Doesn't mean I don't think Walt isn't a complete and total scumbag though.

No it goes back further than that. Its been a while so this isn't verbatim but Skyler said something to the effect of "I know it has to do with the way you were raised but taking money/admitting you need help is not a bad thing"

I don't know... I forget if it was in a podcast, or an interview or something, but I'm almost certain that Vince or Bryan mentioned something about Walt's childhood and charity. I have to wonder if it has something to do with his father. Maybe when he died he left Walt and his mother penniless and they had to rely on others for everything? I don't know, I'm just spitballing.

I don't know why Jesse is so upset. Gus threatened to kill Walt's entire family. He had to do something. If not for Walt poisoning Brock, Hank would be dead, and who knows who else. If Gus never threatened Walt like he did in the wasteland, he'd still be alive. But if you follow the threads all the way to the beginning of this Walt VS Jesse conflict, it was Jesse who started it. As I recall, if Jesse just let Gus' little two dealers go, they'd all be safe and happy (Well, I don't ever think Jesse can be happy, always crying about something). Walt picked Jesse over Gus, thus, bringing us to where we are. I will always root for Walt. No matter what, because as I see it so far, he is in the right.

This plus Walt has put his own life on the life to save Jesse's life when he didn't have to. He told Jane's dad that he considers Jesse family. Jane's dad had no clue who Walt was or that Jesse was that obnoxious kid who was screwing his daughter and getting her back on the pipe...er...needle.

Walt was being genuine. He loves Jesse...he just isn't above manipulating him towards what he sees are the "right" ends for Jesse and himself. I think in his mind there's nothing else he can do short of throwing up his hands and letting his world crumble around him.

This plus Walt has put his own life on the life to save Jesse's life when he didn't have to. He told Jane's dad that he considers Jesse family. Jane's dad had no clue who Walt was or that Jesse was that obnoxious kid who was screwing his daughter and getting her back on the pipe...er...needle.

That was three (and a half) seasons ago. Things change. Walt has evolved into a much colder, calculating and murderous person since then. Let's remember in season 1, Walt didn't even want to hurt Krazy 8.

Outstanding...just, outstanding character development this show has. It's like watching the descent of Lex Luthor from Smallville...but done right.

Obviously, but starting on whichever episode Brock was poisoned, there were people like myself saying, "I don't know guys, I think Walt might have done it." while others were saying, "No way! Walt would never do something like that."

Even after the "reveal" episode there was still a minority who still clung that walt didn't do it, if you only for the fact they didn't actually see walt on screen poisoning brock himself.

It's actually a good thing the show decided to be somewhat blatant and do a direct zoom on the plant in walt's backyard, otherwise to this day we'd probably still have a huge group of people arguing walt had nothing to do with brock.

Oh well, that is different. I didn't particularly think Walt did it before they revealed it at the end, mainly because it made a lot of sense with how Gus was so actively trying to drive the two apart. But I wasn't surprised or anything when it was clear he did.
