Transformers Bumblebee Appreciation Thread

The ironic thing is that Bumblebee was probably one of the original Autobots that I leasted liked. So the movie definately changed my mind in that regard.

The one thing that I was kind of iffy on was Mark Ryan's voice. Bumblebee should've had a younger sounding voice, IMO.
Bumblebee: Permission to speak, sir.
Optimus Prime: Permission granted, old friend.

Bumblebee isn't as young as everyone seems to think he is.

Both his voice and OP calling him old friend seem to indicate that Bumblebee is quite old and experienced.

Can't wait to see the repo of the '77 camaro bumblebee at a show im working at in London next month.

Just bought a great T-shirt off Ebay.

Depicts the name "BumbleBee" and lights up. Can change the random patterns too.

Here's a couple pics.

I'm still wondering why they had him with such a middle aged brit voice. I figure he would've sounded at least in his late teens or early 20's since he was so full of life.

Yeah, because after you turn 25 you're just dead.:whatever:

You do realize that Lance Armstrong was in his thirties when he retired from professional bike racing, right? This means that his Tour de France wins were in his late 20's and early 30's. Ron Perlman is currently working on the Hellboy sequel under heavy makeup and prostetics in about 90-100 degree weather. There's no way someone who's not in top physical condition would be able to do what he does and not pass out and he's 57. Arnold Schwarzenegger is 60 years old and there's no way I'd ever tell him that he wasn't 'full of life.' So, just because Bumblebee is energetic and eager to do his job protecting Sam doesn't make him young.

I  Bumblebee too....hence my username.

I am very glad he got more screen time in this movie than in the '86 cartoon movie.

And he was very well done...and NOT A BUG!! Thank you MB....that would have ruined Herbie for me...or the opposite. :trans:

By the way...I am sooo for a Bumblebee remix CD. THAT would be awesome!

(where's a Bumblebee icon? We need a 'bee-yotch one!)

I see that as being symbolic. Just because somebody is an "old friend" of yours doesn't mean that person is older in age.

If I recall correctly, I know that Mark Ryan acted as a stand-in for the TF's during filming. Plus, I think they also used his facial movements as a basis when animating the Transformers themselves. I'm guessing that maybe Bay decided to pay him back for his contribution to the film, and probably saved money in the process since Bumblebee only had two lines of actual dialouge. Cheaper then casting another VA entirely.

To me, Bumblebee's behavior and mannerism through out the film made me view him as being younger in relation to the other Transformers. That is why him having the voice of a middle-aged man didn't seem to fit, IMO.

I'm not implying that Bumblebee is older than Optimus Prime, but that the two have been friends for a long time.

Nah, i don't care how old Bumblebee is....the fact of the matter is that he is damn awesome and much better than the cartoon one (in my opinion that is). :word:

Agreed. I don't remember a lot of the cartoon and what little I do remember, it doesn't include Bumblebee.

Exactly, i'm 25 and i'm probably more full of energy now thatn i have ever been!

You kidding right. I have friends i have known for 12/13 years, yet i never call them 'old' friends because they are all the same age as me.

Now my Dad, who is 58, calls all the people he has known longest his 'old' friends.

When I said "older in age" it didn't mean that the "old friend" is older than the other individual.

While I'm not saying he was by any means the star of the show (all characters kinda seemed equal), back then Bumblebee was a popular character... not only because he was voiced by the same guy that voiced Spider-man at the same time, but because he was one of the first ubiquitious transformers toy that EVERYBODY- girls included- had from way before even the cartoon circa 1983. Wearing him (or Cliffjumper) as a pendant on your bookbag was a sorta a short fad (kinda like those Tamagotchi virtual pet pendants from a few years ago).... at least in NYC where I grew up.

I know this and i'm not saying BB is older than OP as IMO he's not, but people only tend to call other 'old friend' if they have known them for a long time.

Yeah, its a shame we never got to see him subdue Barricade, would have loved to have seen that whole fight. Hope they have a re-match in TF2 as they seem evenly matched.
that all seems like additional stuff they would put into the dvd versions of the film.

it's fairly obvious these days that the cinematic cuts of films they give us are just the bare bone of stories, enough to tell everyone what is going on but certainly not the whole thing (especially with cgi heavy films where whole scenes can just be inserted).

Saying this though, bumblebee shouldn't be as old or come across older than jazz.

he needed to be old enough to take on the scouting mission on earth but then young enough to appeal to sam.

I think his voice appealed and was very good for the scene but for the character, i'm not sure.

he came across as a cool uncle rather than afriend of a mutual respective age.

all of bumblebee's actions in the film, (radio gags, shadowboxing, urinating, sam's company) all gave the impression he was young but his voice gives the impression he's actually like a proper musketeer from olden days, perhaps with a youthful sense of humour

BumbleBee's Kick@$$!!...I CAN"T wait for the next TF Movie!!..The Only thing i didn't like was when Mikayla said he was a Ugly OLD Car..There was nothing wrong with him..she IS NOT a CAR Person!.....Although i hate to say it he was still pretty Cool!

It still slightly amuses me that people are having a snit about BB's voice when in all likelyhood his voice will change since it had just been repaired. And if it does change, I hope they keep using an actor with an English accent. Call me fickle, but I have a thing for accents.:cwink::woot:

This is true, hopefully we will see a DC or EE of the movie. BUT, i do believe budget was a factor in the short fight scene's.

I know what you mean about BB's actions, but, as you said, he may just have a youthful nature.

I didnt even mind his voice, i was shocked when i first heard it, as i didnt know he could speak at that point, other than that i thought the voice fit well.
