Maybe Zack Snyder is the Adam Sandler of CBMs? Critics will hate him, but he will always have a fan base to support his work.

Oh God. I thought the Transformers comparisons were bad. DCEU now at, Adam Sandler level.

Transformers 2 and 3 are low ratinfs and still sailed to over a billion

I'm guessing the mod, Matt, doesn't want this film to be good by all the posts I've seen from him?

Matt wants nothing more than this movie to be good. Matt's first time at the movie theater (that he can remember, anyway), was Superman IV. As bad as it was, it was amazing to be a kid, watching a man fly on the big screen. Its the day I fell in love with superheroes. Matt wants his daughter to be able to look at his favorite superhero exactly the same. Instead, she has to grow up in a world where a Superman movie is a bleak and joyless affair.

I'd like to think that even if this grosses well, WB cares about the response.

I mean this is the company behind the Dark Knight Trilogy, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter Saga, Space Jam, Mad Max series, and others.

I doubt you want your next franchise to be compared to Transformers and Adam Sandler films. I mean I hope they at least care about the quality of the product.

I don't blame folks for being upset. we have been emotionally invested in this for the last 2/3 years. All we have heard is all great it is, how the suits at WB gave it a standing ovation, fan screenings were very positive, etc etc. And now, we see a low 30's on RT, mixed reactions from the fans, and it feels like SR and MOS all over again.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but is it really so hard to get something like this right? especially when you had so much extra time to get it right...

MT sales are actually up since the reviews. So yeah. We'll see about the WOM when the movie's in its second week.

agreed! word of mouth nor reviews (positive or negative) wont be connected the numbers on the initial weekend! those are critic and word of mouth proof. The people first to see a movie usually see it regardless and in a lot of instances have tickets well before the reviews are released.

I say really by the 3rd weekend is when word of mouth and reviews start impacting a movie. That's the reason X3 was the biggest xmen movie at the time it was released. The initial hype was enough to carry it through. It dropped like a brick the subsequent weeks that followed.

I can't believe the score keeps going down. I think it might end up at 29% or something...Sheesh.

EXACTLY! Man of Steel was setting up Superman, the way he talks with Swanwick at the end if TOTAL Superman to me, that's what I wanted to see more of.

Take out the 'smashing a million dollar drone thing because it looks cool' part and I agree.

You know something, Cavill is an intelligent guy, and I've noticed in all his press interviews he's saying "We're still building towards the Superman everyone knows and loves". I think that's damage control for him, he knows fine well a lot of fans are going to be disappointed that we're still stuck with brooding Superman and we're still not getting hopeful Superman.

"Stay with us guys, we'll be there in only like 7 movies"

Transformers 2 and 3 are low ratinfs and still sailed to over a billion

"The Transformers 3 of superhero movies!" There, put that on a poster

Also the Transformers movies are very accessible to kids. They eat it up. This movie is not. At all. I wouldn't let any kid under 13 even be allowed to see it without their parents seeing it first.

hey, it just jumped back up to 33 percent. all is not lost, 'knight.

He reads fan boards.

Warners HAS TO think about more than grosses for this particular movie. This movie cannot be viewed in a vacuum. It is the launching point for a franchise that is supposed to give Warners 2 or 3 huge tent pole movies per year for the next 10-15 years. They not only need this movie to be successful. They need it to be liked. That trumps the money here. Because if this is not liked, it will impact Justice League...and if Justice League underperforms...the plan Warners went all in on blows up in their faces.

The ride was enjoyable regardless of the final result.

I kid you not.

If I had my way, this movie would have an even lower score than it does.

I went in with an open mind, found myself thinking the critics were wrong for the first 15 minutes or so.

But this film is an unmitigated disaster. In a bizzare way, it's a worse movie than Batman & Robin and Superman IV. I say this is bizzare because this is a well-acted movie, the dialogue is snappy and generally good - but it is so incoherent and so badly put together that I just sat through a two and a half hour movie and I cannot even explain the plot.

This movie deserves every bit of criticism it has received and more.

Overall I would say BvS is the saddest, most nihilistic superhero movie DC could possibly make. It'll be a movie that people want to quickly forget after leaving the theater.

gotcha. just as i dont doubt rt influences wom and box office, i have to wonder if it doesn't also affect perception on those who've even seen the movie. i've honestly never seen a critic go from being a fan of a film to saying it's something you want to forget in less than twenty four hours before. did you revise your initial review?

I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy parts of the movie no matter what. I hated MOS, but there was brilliance in that movie. The problem was that it was only sprinkled throughout for me.

I'm hearing the editing is one of the biggest problems some folks have with it.
That was my biggest gripe with MOS.
I was so hoping it would be better this time around.

It happens. I rather enjoyed Superman Returns when I saw it in the cinema, maybe it was just the high of hearing Williams score in the theatre. After watching that film a couple times more I realised it's actually not very good and I doubt I could sit through it all again if I'm honest.

I never said I was a fan of it.

And the whole theme of my review is that the acting BARELY saves the movie. I stand by my opinion that the acting is head and shoulders above every other aspect of this movie. Even the visuals, which are wonky at times. The bad stuff just became much more obvious this time around and the decent/not so bad points faded to the back.

I think my review stands as is but I will drop the rating down.

Green the editing is horrendous.

Honestly the worst I have ever seen. This is the movie's biggest flaw and it kills it dead.

It's not the movie's only problem, but the other problems don't factor in because there is no way it could overcome this.

you know who's a great editor and gets the concept of a streamlined narrative and understands comic books? george lucas. guys not doing anything, i don't think he should be anywhere near the director's chair, and he personally wouldn't want to write a word, but i bet he could work wonders in the editing chair for a comic book movie.

Amen to that. This place has never been so alive and we have many more movies just around the corner. its going to be a fun place to hang out for awhile.
