My final rating? Ratings only really matter between 7-10, mediocre to excellent. This movie doesn't even reach that, so it doesn't even deserve a number. All it gets from me is a FAIL.

And this is why Rotten Tomatoes allows critics to select Fresh or Rotten. For you 7 is mediocre. For me 7 is good, 5 is mediocre. These numbers mean different things to different people. Fresh/Rotten or Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down is crystal clear.

Yet you seem to be all in on the Cinemascore.

They are random samplings. I put far more value in that than I do irate fanboys who are purposely skewing numbers because their precious franchise is getting crapped on.

Those are actual surveys of people exiting the theater, so while there is a bias in that the people showing up on opening day are more likely to be fans, it isn't like an internet poll where a small number of people can vote many times over and over again and it at least guarantees that the person being surveyed actually saw the movie.

and vice versa. Some people vote negative without seeing it too.

Audience score ratings are very difficult to trust.

True, that happens as well.

I remember back before the first Avengers movie I was thinking about maybe creating an account on IMDb, to have another place to discuss movies, and another place where I rated movies. I went in and checked some threads and found one where they were literally organizing a vote down of the Avengers because it was Marvel (and I'm quite sure it happens with DC so not bashing fans of any particular franchise). That was enough for me to never bother thinking about being part of that community (although it wasn't the last stupid thing I saw there).

So forgive my ignorance, but I'm gathering that anything less than an A is bad on cinema score?

Not too familiar with it myself, but the score is apparently worse than all movies in the MCU, X-Men and Spider-Man franchises. It's equal to the old FF movies but better than the newest. So I take it that a straight B it's a pretty bad score.

And that's the worrisome part. This thing is like Lieutenant Dan it ain't got no legs

Kind of a strange scale if anything less than one value is bad. Why not do just pass/fail then line RT?

I think anything over B+ is generally a good zone to be in. BvS got a B.

Woo!

My effort wasn't wasted.

And if anyone is wondering what the value of a cinemascore is - studios have been using it since the 70s.

Thanks for putting that list together, a B doesn't sound bad till you realise that puts it with Ghostrider, Electra, Catwoman, and Steel.

Batman Returns as a B is surprising. It was a good movie but I guess going full burton was too much for audiences.

There was some significant backlash against that film, especially from parents.

So Thor: The Dark World ,The Incredible Hulk,X:3 is as good as Spider-Man & Spiderman 2?

:loco:

Oh and antman is on TDK level...

You can't really dispute the cinemascore.

It's the closest thing we have to legitimate representation of GA feedback.

Yes...

Have a look at WB's history with the "B" rating...

Batman Returns got a "B", and WB cancelled Burton's "Batman 3" and hired a new director...

Green Lantern got a "B"...nevermind that Sinestro tease...

Catwoman got a "B"...remember the plan to have eight sequels?

Constantine? Nope, so sequel there.

Steel? Yep...no sequel there either.

A "B" rating means big changes afoot.

Yeah that was the early 90s when the "think of the children" era, was in full swing. Sucks that screwed up the franchise for a good ten years.

So Thor: The Dark World ,The Incredible Hulk,X:3 is as good as Spider-Man & Spiderman 2?

It measures audience feedback. More crowd-pleasing films get a higher rating. Therefore, the more accessible the film is the better it rates. The question isn't a "whats the best of these movies", it's a rating of how much you enjoyed yourself.

There are people who found Nolan's movies too dark and serious.

Likewise, because Spider-man 1 and Spider-man 2 opened to wider audiences, their audience was less likely to be fans of comic book styles of film than the comparatively limited audience who saw Thor and TIH.

It's not comparing movies. Doesn't work like that. Rotten Tomatoes gives a consensus of critical reaction, CinemaScore gives a consensus of opening weekend general audience reaction. Both are important and when looked at together provide a pretty clear picture. Funny thing is CinemaScore polls the people who are most likely to love a movie.

That's not a critical rating of the movie it's a rating of how much audiences enjoyed the movie. People were going back to see The Avengers 5 or 6 times.

Who has, let's be real, WB probabaly expected from this movie. Most definitely for JL.
