The Dark Knight Can the dark knight do well INTERNATIONALLY?

you mean you didn't like lines like "it not who i am underneath but what i do that defines me?":oldrazz: seriously, that line still bothers the crap out of me. it just doesn't fit...

No, I actually like that line. I have a problem with things like "Nice coat" or "I gotta get me one of those," or "That water main is gonna blow!" or the constant use of the word "fear" over and over throughout the movie. Goyer is a crappy writer, but at least he took the character seriously. In fact, he took it more seriously than Burton did from what I can tell.

Starvin Marvin's gonna get a kick out of this movie for sure!

Although it's a melodramatic line, and I hope TDK isn't too littered with them, it is actually quite a good philosophy...

Sorry if this has been pointed out before.

But every time I see this thread, I think it's titled, "Can the dark knight do well INTENTIONALLY?"

My thought is, "Warner Brothers sure does hope so."

I live in Britain, and my social group is composed of males and females between 18 and 40 years old; many will concede the inherent coolness of Batman, but none would ever be associated with Spiderman, Superman etc.
You don't know any 45 year old transexuals or 15 year old hermaphrodites? My, you have led a sheltered life.

I'd like to know some, but may end up on a CID proscription list.

Can someone figure out why foreign box office is ALWAYS lower than US box office?

Well...most of the time.

Given that we are basically living in an age where foreign box office is higher than US box office...why did all batman films fail to do as well as other blockbuster?

There-I corrected it !:hehe:

the batman films nearly failed in the outside the US market because Batman wasnt such a huge star at the time up untill 80's mid 90's.when B89 came out i remember going to the theater which was full of children that were only waiting to see batman punching someone.they didnt know who batman was or who the joker was.only a few people really knew what is batman underneath.so i am guessing it was the unawareness of the character untill the mid 90's and the bittersweet memory of the 60's series.Adults wouldnt take the risk and lose 2 hours of their lives for someone that lame!
That's in Greece of course. Now here (in my circle of friends at least) he has became very famous after BB.So I am expecting a lot of tickets from Greece ,it wont be the #1 film of the year but it will do good.Even more than BB did.I am expecting a lot of normies though that will actually be like "oh the joker!the one who killed bruce's parents right?".

Because that wasn't a double negative.

It isn't. Infact it ussually isn't, it's just the only films you hear about is.. yep you guessed it, American films. There are legions of British films that make absolutely no gross in the US because they don't even get a distributing deal. The same with Japan, who as a country make more movies than America.

It's stupid to compare Bond to Batman, when Bond is easily the biggest cinematic franchise of all time. The closest to it is probably Star Wars, and it's still about 15 movies behind. Even though Bond started as books, he's more deeply associated by pop culture with the multitude of films he's been in, while Batman, a character in continuous print for decades, involving litterally 1000s of comic books as opposed to 5/6 films will always be thought of as a comic book character first.

We're kinda feeling the hype for TDK over here, all of my friends at least know about it, most know The Joker is the villian, and most are excited by it. EMPIRE got the first Joker pic in print, a British mag. It'll exceed BB's gross imo.

I think there is no problem in out-grossing BB...the problem lies in TDK ability to do better numbers than SR.

I very much doubt that'll be a problem

As far as I'm concerned, if TDK world wode gross is under 500 million, it'll be a disappointment.

It won't make Spiderman numbers, but the hype for this film is really getting big, and the positive fallout from Begins (it did v well on DVD don't forget) shouldn't be underestimated.

agreed!the people i know that saw BB on DVD were like "god that must have looked great in the cinema" all the time and they were all really sorry they missed the film.that makes them moviegoers when TDK is out.the BB DVD sales and rental numbers summed up with the numbers the BB movie made while on cinema is my opinion for the final profit for WB on TDK.

Won't do well in China, I think. Although batman and Bale have a great number of fans in this country, people don't like to see this kind of film in the cinema. Almost all the inported film will be cut becuase the scenes about China are NOT true, judged by our govenment. You know that China don't have the film-rating system, they just cut every "bad "scene out of the film. After that, the film looks strange. BB has been a very strage film two years ago - -|||, Bruce suddenly shew himself at a damn dirty place which looked like a pirson...So most people would like to wait for DVD, or download the film.

I hate to say that.

And up to now, our media haven't report anything about the TDK filming, even the filming in HONGKONG. I don't know what the problem is, maybe the poor box office of BB disappointed them, they won't inport TDK this time, who knows.

I think the real question is...

Will The Dark Knight do better box office than Batman Begins?

the way to get sequels is for each film to do better than the last...

(in most cases)
