See, that's totally fine - personal preference. It's just when people start to make a case for why it shouldn't be that way and go "It's too modern-looking, it makes no sense! It should have dragon scale and wings!" is when their argument falls apart.

If you don't like the modern look of it- fine, that's cool. But don't act like it's a stupid or illogical decision because you prefer the more traditional look from the books. (not targeted at you, Infinity, just those arguing about it)

again I think you are confusing modern and realistic. Chain Mail and wings arent modern things. Yes I do realize that its a movie about supersoldier serums and indestructable shields. Looking at the suit without any conjecture about Howard Stark designing the suit...does it look like something from 1940 or 2010?? If you say 2010 then you feel the suit is modern looking.

it really has nothing to do with the realism argument.

I agree. The Ultimates WWII suit was perfect. It did justice to the grittiness of that war. This however makes it look more flashy and colourful. It just doesnt feel right to me.

Dont forget that this is Marvel's version of WW2 and maybe different from what we generally think of WW2

Still, shouldnt WWII feel like WWII with superheroes and not like a war of the 21st century with superheroes?

I dont see anything remotely samurai-like about the suit

Dude look at the elements of the armor it's plain to see. Did they copy the armor inch by inch no but they took its basic elements then converted some of it to fit its needs. For example there are two straps at the top of the armor they use to hold it up. For the Cap design they brought it down to his waist to give the illusion of stripes. I could on and on about this but I'm leave it at that.

dude I lived in Japan for 5 years and pretty much studied the samurai and bushido and I dont see anything in the suit samurai-ish

i really dont think an america scientist in 1940 is going to design a patriotic suit with enemy elements

sure it does look a bit modern looking for the 40s, but for all we know, the real suit could look more 40s suitable. Or the plot he designs suit was scrapped. and he is given a special design suit from stark sr and it being slightly more modern then standard 40s stuff cause he created new things that were lost/not used after cap died or what not.

are we even sure this is the suit hes gonna be wearing the whole movie? or thats its the final version? i need more info before i make my mind up about it. looks pretty decent anyways i guess.

yea that is the main question is this the costume we are going to see through most of the film or not. but more likely it is. But i still cant wait to see it in action for real and not just a cgi rendered image.

I feel these reactions are exactly the same reactions we got when we saw Thors concept art. You have to understand that thats what it is....concept art....we finally saw what he looked like in the costume and I for one was very very happy about it. people were bashing it until they saw it on him then praised it.

Dont bash on this until we see actual footage of him in the suite. I believe its going to be exactly the same, the colors in the concept art are a lot more saturated then they will be in the film and trying to see Texture in 2D artwork is very hard to do. Once we see all the different fabrics and actual colors on him then I will make my decision if its a good or bad costume design.

:awesome: But by all means keep the discussion up

That's my biggest question. I mean, in the interview, they described Cap making his suit. Putting it together by himself. The suit we've gotten does not look like that. It looks like it was specially made for him.

Again, seeing something in live action will help quite a bit. Though I really hope they make it a bit grittier looking like the Ultimate WWII outfit.

<sigh>

As Charles Grodin said in "Heaven Can Wait"...".I think the statement speaks for itself."

The Ultimate WWII suit would have been fantastic for the film, but in all honesty, I like the concept art. I agree it looks a little too modern(even for Marvel's '40s), but I'll hold judgement on that until I know how long and when he wears this suit, and when I actually see the real thing.

hopefully folks will be happy with how things look once we have the real image of the costume.

Chris' statements about the costume being over-the-top and RED white and blue makes me feel a lot better about things. His other statements about the actor playing Cap sucking just makes me like him even more.

Just glancing at a few pages I gather Kurosawa raises the ire of a few on here. And after glancing at a few of his posts I think I like Kurosawa. I also agree that Chris's self effacing remark about himself makes me like him more. I really hope this is good.

i am sure marvel is doing the best not to muck captain america up.

I did NOT expect to hear that from you. Glad you've gained some hope!:word:
I hope you aren't disappointed, as am I:cwink:

Thanks much :yay: I'm not out to make anyone mad, I just care about Cap and Kirby.

Hey, he's seen and worn the suit, he's Captain America. I'll take him at his word.

This months Empire (August 2010) writes, re the concept pictures released:

"Is it the real deal? Marvel have neither endorsed or disowned the art. Still Here's Evans in the battle ready version of America's super-suit (the concept pic of him jumping forward shown) - a second, flashier costume is still under wraps."

Interested to see the flashier costume now

My gut feeling is that they've got it wrong and the 'second, flashier costume' is the one that we've seen, for use in the present day, and that we've yet to see Cap's war-time outfit.
