What I'm saying is fans and readers of Cap through the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and early 00's are the ones that are criticized for wanting what is familiar to them. The WWII spykiller aspect is cool but you can't blame people for getting their feathers ruffled if certain aspects are being changed for the sake of pleasing fans that have been reading the title for a few years or people that we're alive back in the 40's.

IMO everything that is being done with the film thus far will reach out to all readers from every generation. All of Cap's core aspects will be there that all readers will be able to identify. His costume still carries the motif of Captain America, it will still retain it's signature features minus the wings, the pics that we have seen looks like more of a contemporary design for the character. The same has been done with all the other characters and it worked for the most part, just give it a chance and see him in action.

First, the movie still has fantastic superhero stuff, such as the cosmic cube, second, the Cap of these decades is the one considered for the longest time to be old-fashioned, boring, etc., maybe unfairly, but is, third, war action and intrigue is far more unique of Captain than superhero stuff that Spidey or Iron Man can handle just the same.

Cap was wildly popular and ran well into the 50s before it was cancelled. When Stan Lee revived Cap... they had to retcon the 50's comics to be a replacement Cap who actually had a lesser version of the SSS and had a facelift to look like Rogers.... that's some Spidey Clone like shi*t! But glad they did it because it gave me my all time favourite Cap story. WHAT IF #44: What if Captain America were not revived until today. CLASSIC CAP!

I think that the thing that drew me to Cap was the WWII background/flashbacks and that whole man out of time thing (even as a young child) I became fascinated with WWII history and the whole Allies vs. Axis thing.

Was that the guy who had the Jack Monroe Bucky, went mad and eventually became the Grand Director? When you say that he had a lesser version of the SSS, wasnt he actually super-strong to some degree?

I dunno - my memory on it all is kinda hazy.

Didn't Bucky kill Jack Monroe will still Winter Solider? Last I remember, Monroe was a bus boy at a diner in the middle of no where.

Yeah, but for years Monroe had been Nomad and despite some highs but mostly lows, I'm still a bit cheesed off about the way the character got treated.

A simple shot to the head after all those years and interesting stories. Very sad.

Lesser I guess in the way that probably mentally unbalanced him even further after he took the serum. The process he recieved was incomplete. I don't think he got the vita ray treatment that stabalizes the serum. But yes, 50s cap was stronger (2-10 ton strength range?) and faster than Rogers. Rogers simply had the superior skills and strategy to take him down one on one. (much like when he fought Walker for the mantle of Cap)

Ah, Captain America #350 Rogers vs. Walker - still one of the comicbook fights that I get the most enjoyment out of reading.

Have a confession to make (I was a big fan of Jon Walker's Cap back in the day - it was such an interesting take at the time. They really put Walker through hell and he came out a really cool character at the end of it - its just a shame that few writers bothered to write him properly afterwards. He had so much damn potential).

CLASSIC comic. I also really enjoyed Cap. vs. Cap in What IF #44

Didn't they put him in a leather Judge Dredd knock-off suit at one point?

*sigh* they sure did. Then, for a short while (right before Avengers Disassembled) he took to wearing a version of the flag again, with the torso looking very padded/armored and a helmet as his mask. He also insisted he was the govt sanctioned Captain America. Didn't last too long. I prefer him in the Black variant suit with the horizontal red stripes, myself.

Ugh, yeah - that Judge Dredd-esque costume was an absolute monstrosity, although it wasnt as bad as the one Walker wore when he was with Force Works. :barf:

The U.S.Agent costume that Walker got from when Steve Rogers wore it as 'The Captain' has got to be the all-time classic U.S.Agent outfit for me.

Yeah, I've said that on another thread. 'Tis a shame.

All he needed was a good writer and some faith from the editorial staff.

I mean, there's so much potential for good story in a character that tried to step into the boots of the best hero of them all but ultimately failed no matter how hard he tried and I'll never forget that Walker decided not to attend the funeral of his murdered parents just so he could carry out an assignment; I always felt that kind of devotion to his country never really got explored as it should have.

oh man, I didn't think anyone remembered Force Works. I still have the first issue somewhere from when I was a kid. ah to be young and naive again...

I felt that maybe just some little painted wings on the helmet would complete the image, so I added some to see how it would work...

I guess I'm the only one that likes it. The only things I don't like are the stitching in his pants, not having the wings and the extra stitching in torso a section.

i think perhaps he's being facetious
