Brie Larson: ‘Captain Marvel’ is a symbol for Women:

Another future role of hers that subverts the female on-screen stereotype? Captain Marvel.

"I'm a very private person and I'm not interested in making films because I want my face to be plastered on more things," said the Sacramento, Calif., native.

"I'm very choosy about what it is that I do, but what I've found with films like 'Short Term 12' and with 'Room' was that it really spoke to people deeply and it was changing people. That was so powerful and so strong, I went, 'Well this is what I want to dedicate my life to.'

"So when the opportunity came to play (Captain Marvel), this symbol of feminism, to play this empowering role for women and it's on kind of arguably the biggest platform that we have right now, it's undeniable that this is an important step and I want to be a part of it."

Well, Infinity War starts filming in a couple of months if I'm not mistaken... Coindidence? I think not. :awesome:

I know many people would disagree with me on this but I think it's because while the MCU is canon with Agent of Shield, Agent of Shield is not canon with the MCU, at least not so far... if that makes any sense.

Personally I wouldn't want them to go that route because 1) I don't care for AoS and I don't want to be forced to watch it and 2) I don't want Captain Marvel to be an Inhuman.

Even if it eventually explains how she got her powers, the resulting amnesia because the researchers misdiagnosed what she was going through so wasn't aware it was granting her powers instead of hallucinations and have her operating as Ms Marvel in New Jersey so when Kamala gains her abilities via those fish pills she has her hero to inspire her as Carol becomes Captain Marvel as part of Tony Stark's new Avengers team?

Sigh and I thought Arrow had problems with DC along comes Marvel to show they can mess up as well!:csad:

Movies and TV shows don't mix. If Kamala shows up on AOS, then she will never appear in a movie. If Kamala shows up in a movie, then there's a slim to none chance that she will show up on AOS. Captain Marvel has her own movie, so you can forget about her being introduced on AOS.

Anyone else want Jessica Drew to turn up in this film? Maybe even be a villain that gets a redemption arc and gets her own film? My fan cast for Jessica is Diane Guerrero- she's a great actress and looks JUST as I imagine Jessica.

I'll be crossing my fingers for Jessica's inclusion. I love her dynamic with Carol.

Diane. :hrt: I think she's pretty hilarious in Jane the Virgin, and her banter skills sure are on point. I could definitely see her in the role.

I'm guessing we should be getting the director news soon. Feige said we'd find out by the end of the summer..

Cannot wait for the costume reveal. We know what Dr Strange, Black Panther and the new Spidey will look like (all awesome) and can't wait for the final piece of the phase 3 jigsaw.

They're not gonna answer anything about Captain Marvel other than vague "She might be in it and we'd love to use her" like they've already been doing it.

The Avengers TV show recently debuted her, and gave her origin as her being an Air Force officer who was kidnapped by aliens that did genetic experiments on her. I wonder if they'll go with something similar for the movie.

Eh, that sounds like it'd be an unnecessarily traumatic backstory. Not that her original cb one was all rainbows and sunshine, but... an alien experiment, wow.
Imagine what scars such an experience would leave on her psyche... I mean, look at what happened to poor Rocket, and he's just a raccoon. :hehe: It would make Tony's PTSD feel like a joke in comparison.

She also acts like an immature rebellious teenager on the show for some reason. She won't act like that in the film, I hope.

Yeah but realistically that would leave us with a very broken protagonist, wouldn't it. Again, look at what happened to the raccoon... or to Scarlet Witch for that matter.

The kids' cartoon obviously gets a pass for it, but I'd be disappointed if the movie were to gloss over the damage that undergoing such a traumatic experience would do to the character's mind. I'd consider it to be inexcusably lazy storytelling.

I guess in the end I just don't want Captain Marvel to end up as yet another edgy and brooding superheroine of the MCU, we've already got plenty of those.

I like it a lot. Finally a manip that uses the McKelvie design. And look at that face... yep, that's exactly the face of someone who's just burned down an entire neighborhood. :o

Not necessarily. Depends on how it goes down. Honestly, realistically, the biggest potential problem would be more that it might seem too similar to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's MCU origin.

I think I would rather Jessica be saved for a sequel. Make her someone Carol meets as a fellow super I say. What I want is a meaty rivalry between Carol and Moonstone. As such... I think developing the villain is more important than building up the support cast/friends.

Also... I want something like this on the soundtrack... Just cuz:

Also... Here's an AMV showcasing Carol alongside other more well known to the GA female supers:

I still cant get over how much Marvel is ruining her in the books when now is the time to be giving her a push that puts her in a favorable light. Any fan that may have checked out the books bc of the recent CW movie would likely hate her if thats their first exposure of the character
