I have been watching the reruns on Boomerang and got me thinking on the movie version. Would or should Thundarr or even Ookla maime or Kill?
That's a very good question. I say "Yes". For one thing, this is a live action adaptation of an action adventure cartoon, not a comedic adventure cartoon. It's
Thundarr The Barbarian, not
Dungeons & Dragons (another cartoon which I happen to dearly love). Also, Thundarr has in fact killed opponents in the cartoon, so I see not reason why he shouldn't in the movie. Ariel always says something to leave the end result rather ambiguous, but for the most part the character is dead.
For example, in
Fortress Of Fear Thundarr throws the wizard Argoth into The Labraya Tar Pit after the wizard's magic is drained. Argoth sinks into the tar and disappears.
Thundarr: Can even Argoth survive that?
Ariel: With his power? Maybe. But if he does, he won't be in any shape to trouble anyone for a long time.
Then in the episode
Wizard Wars, Thundarr deflects one of the wizard Skullos' spells back at him. Skullos loses control of his magic and the energy builds until it causes the wizard and his war machine to explode.
Thundarr: Skullos is no more!
Ariel: You never can tell with a wizard that powerful, Thundarr.
Then there are the episodes
Island Of The Bodysnatchers and
Last Train To Doomsday where the villains (Cerce the Witch and the wizard Gemini, respectively) were turned to stone. That is, of course, if you happen to equate being turned to stone with being killed. So it's not exactly unprecidented that Thundarr and company should take a life.
Besides, this film should be a hard PG-13 movie, if not rated R. It doesn't necessarily have to have
Conan The Barbarian level violence, with the exploding blood packs and the dismemberments and decapitations. But certainly have a similar level of violence as
Willow for example, or maybe the
Star Wars movies (if maybe a little more intense). And Ookla? Moks are obviously the mutation/decendants of lions, which are a predatory species. Therefore they likely have lion like claws on their fingertips in addition to those huge insizors. Thus in a melee confrontation he's likely to claw and bite his enemies, not just pick them up and throw them.
But if the violence is only PG-13, then I hope we get to see Princess Ariel naked to bring the rating up to an R. I know she's only a cartoon character, but DAMN she's hot!
