The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger (Spoiler Discussion)

I don't get why people are suggesting that Luke would blindly follow orthodoxy now when he clearly didn't do that during the OT. He clearly trusts his own gut and judgment and any portrayal of Luke otherwise after ROTJ is clearly inconsistent.

Obi-Wan told him Anakin was lost and beyond saving, Luke rejected that and went with his own gut and using familial attachment to save the Galaxy and destroy the Sith. And Filoni has spent almost two decades in Star Wars animation establishing the idea that a reformist Jedi sect was rising following Order 66 and that their teachings were pivotal to the Jedi Order rising from the ashes around the time of the OT.
One of my favorite aspects of the OT is how Obi-Wan stays pretty dogmatic with his review (ironically letting his emotions get the better of him), while Yoda may have his opinions, but he goes out of his way to not tell Luke what to do. He tells him he has to confront Vader, never how. He leaves that to Luke.

But canon, including 7 seasons of Clone Wars, indicate that Yoda himself was questioning the old dogma and coming around to Qui-Gon's hippy love reformer views. Even Rian seems to acknowledge that in his portrayal of Yoda in TLJ, which begs the question why Yoda was not counseling Luke on these issues after ROTJ. The movie makes clear that Yoda remained there and available to counsel Luke, but for some reason seems to suggest that Yoda allowed Luke to go off and make 30 years of horrible mistakes before coming back to set him straight.

You know Luke only technically knew Yoda for like a week or so… maybe his force Ghost was more open post-ROTJ.

Yep, and Filoni spent an entire season of Clone Wars exploring why Yoda would be more open-minded and flexible on Jedi orthodoxy, made sure his appearances on Rebels are consistent with that character arc, and then turn around and writes this crap... It also makes no sense why he also threw poor Ahsoka into this crap too.

I can't believe that the same lady who broke half of the Order's rules with her master, rejected the Order as corrupt, hung out with Kanan and Ezra, and finally, decided to sacrifice her life trying to save her Master out of attachment, is now coldly regurgitating Jedi orthodoxy about attachment.

Holy ****, Ahsoka was a Lefty as a kid, who grew up, got scared, and turned into a liberal.

I’ve been telling friends who haven’t watched Boba Fett yet to just skip the first four episodes and watch these two.

Props to Shamook for earning his pay and massively improving the deepfake this time around. It's uncanny in places, and I'm sure it'll continue to improve in future.

That said... This Luke Skywalker haunts my very soul. There's no humanity in his performance, no life in his eyes, no passion in his simulated voice. I find it repulsive to be frank, eerie, stilted and disturbing. It seems like such a waste of Mark Hamill to be pursuing this hollow shell instead of an actual performance. Leia has already become a computer-generated spectre after Carrie Fisher's passing, and I really don't enjoy it happening with Luke.

I 100% agree with this. It’s always cool to see Luke in his prime. But Hamill’s voice seemed off in this. We know he’s a great voice actor. But something here just felt off. It felt so robotic and stiff at times. I don’t need him to be the whiny Luke from OT but it didn’t feel lived in.

No Black K? No train heist? No like a Bantha? Shame. :o

I greatly enjoy the idea that fandalorians loose sleep over that "like a bantha" clip of their favorite bad ass.

I will say, however the existance of Zeen Mrala in the High Republic, specifically being encountered by Yoda, makes me really wonder what Yoda was on in TPM with Anakin.

Someone obviously has not watched the Making Of doc for the season 2 finale. Young Luke's voice on both Mando and here is completely computer generated using samples of Mark's voice from his youth. It's an audio deep fake. None of it is a new performance from Mark.

Wait, people don't like, "like a bantha"? Seriously?

All of this raises the question of why Grogu even went with Luke to begin with, if the plan was for him to turn around and go back to Mando right away...
I know. But I was also one who thought this was exactly what was going to happen. As Snow loves to remind me, that little guy prints money. Now they want to put him in little armor and give him a lightsaber? All da paper belong to us!

Really? I think episodes 2 and 4 are great. If I would've told anyone to skip anything in the show I would say just Episode 3. I really like episode 5 and love episode 6 but I still put episode 2 over say, 6 because it doesn't go as hard on the fan service and is a compelling tale on its own. Not to say the fan service is bad, it's done well too here.

As a Boba nut, not gonna lie, I miss the guy and I wish they gave him a couple more scenes. Regardless, wow did I love this episode. I think what they do with Luke here was far more engaging to me than his little action sequence in the Mandalorian Season 2 Finale. Love the Ahsoka-Luke interactions.

But oh my stars and garters, the entrance of Cad Bane was masterful. Fantastic.

Also for some reason got emotional when Ahsoka said she was an "old friend of the family".

I desperately need Boba so I'm hoping they nail the finale. Kinda scared that Rodriguez is directing though considering how off his game he's been in this show.

Wait are you sure? I know they modulated the voice to sound like young Luke, but I thought the Making of doc said Hamill did perform the lines and they just adjusted his voice in post?

EDIT: OK yup you're right. Just looked it up. I misunderstood the documentary.

I actually thought he was emulating the ROTJ Luke pretty well. I always felt Hamill was a bit robotic in some scenes in ROTJ, particularly in his scene with Yoda or his scene with Leia on the bridge of the Ewok village.
